Common Rail Diesel (CRD) injectors live in very harsh environments and have to cope with fuel pressures of up to 30,000 Psi, with very precise operating conditions. No wonder they sometimes fail!
Some symptoms of injector failure can include, rough running, long starting times, excessive smoke, excessive fuel usage and harsh engine knocking noises.
In this video, solenoid type injectors are being replaced to remedy symptoms including some listed above.
