I love Chinese manufacturing, the level of quality production at speed is astounding, I wish we could have some manufacturing back in the UK. When I was young we used to have loads of factories here but they are nearly all gone now, it doesn’t really matter where things are made, it’s how well they are made and how affordable they are to the masses. I’m British and am not ashamed to say we would be lost without the amazing effort China contributes to the world economy. Thank you to all the Chinese workers that make all our lives better.

@@spacefreedom But cost of living is 45% lower than US in China. Rent is about 60% lower in China than US. For example, rent in Shenzhen is 77% lower than NYC. Guangzhou rent is only 17% of what it costs in NYC. Healthcare is also much cheaper: It only costs $8/night to stay in a public Chinese hospital. In a private Chinese hospital it costs $600-$700 whereas in the US, $12,000 for an overnight stay.

Your kidding right ?. I work in QA for HP and we have pulled all manufacturing out of China over the last 2 years and moved all main plants to the UK. I lived in Shenzhen for 9 months trying to get QA up to the levels required and it was impossible due to Chinese continuously trying to make shortcuts and do things cheaper as soon as you turn your back.

@spacefreedom At least you can live without worrying about next meal in China. In America the minimum wage is around $7.80 per hour x 8 =$ 62.40 per day x 25 days = 1,560 monthly earnings. Housing is around $800 to $1.500 for a bedroom . Even if an American can earn double the wage it is still difficult life here and a lot of them end up sleeping in a car, tent or on the sidewalk.

If this factory is privately owned, I appreciate the bravery of the boss. They sell the drills at such extremely low price. No extra money for R&D and just copying other popular products and trying hard to use cheaper and lower quality components to reduce the production cost. But just a slight technical breakthrough, the better product from the West would replace this old product cruelly in few months. Then at least some of the machines become obsoleted. So it's difficult to determine whether they earn or lose money in the end.

Here in the USA I’ve noticed many products from China have increased in quality over the years. There used to be shockingly low price items that didn’t last. Now the price is slightly higher but the tool is much more durable and a better value.
