Mirror Dinghy Boom and Vange/Kicker Setup

Someone asked me in the comments a few weeks ago now if I could do a video showing how the Kicker was attached to the boat so here it is. I'm sorry I can't remember who asked me, I searched the comments but couldn't find it!!!

Hi Dave, love your work mate. I found this episode searching for "Mirror spinnaker set-up", as I'm about to add all the gubbins to mine. You mention the block and fairlead on the boom as being for the spinnaker - are you referring to the pole? Any chance you've got a video dedicated to the spinnaker and pole set-up? Cheers mate, Jim

Hi Jim. Glad to have helped. I took the spinnaker off Mochyn Du as there were so many lines it got very confusing whilst learning to sail. She has the fly-away pole too which only added to the confusion. I did take some pictures of removing the system but they didn't seem to help me much. If you email me then I can try and dig them out and see if they help you at all? Right now I have just been repairing the boat but the plan was to get her back on the water by the end of the season for a few sails with the spinnaker re-attached if I can work it out. Will post a video of it then!!!

Hi Dave, nice video. I would give one piece of advice. There should be no fittings on the side of the boom that extends beyond the shrouds for safety reasons and to meet class rules. The fittings at the end of the boom could snag on another boats rigging causing undesirable results!

Hi Ron. Cheers for that. I can see how that could be an issue. I don't race the Mirror at all and at the time of the video only planned on crusing in her, however I can see I will have a few things to unscrew if I ever do race!!! Do you think those extra bow cleats would have to go too?
