As a cargo hauler, the point of the Lancer Max is multiple pick ups and drop offs. You fly to point a, sell what you have, pick up new stuff, fly to point b, and on and on. The longer the chain, the better the profit. And it can defend itself while on that long cargo run. So you would be picking up and dropping off from the most remote locations you can find, with flight time being the factor that gets you paid, kind of like how a truck driver makes a lot more money driving from CA to NY, then down to NC and back to CA.

for clarification since I own a Starlancer MAX and have done cargo in the PTU. It holds 4x 32 SCU on grid in the cargo elevator and 2x 32 SCU in the rear. Off grid you can fit 2 more 32 SCU boxes in the rear and a 24 scu box sideways. All other cargo it fits is 4 scu on top of all of those which is a little sketchy but it works. That means if you maximize the amount of cargo you carry you can fit 420 SCU in the Starlancar MAX

I think this is a great ship for cargo missions. If the game wants to toss 8 SCU crates at you, the Starlancer can fit 24x 8 SCU crates on the grid and then another 10 off the grid without difficulty. Compared to something like the Taurus, which can only comfortably fit 14x 8 SCU crates on its grid. It's a VERY functional ship if you're just looking to throw things into it without playing jenga.
@jzekaron
@jzekaron Ай бұрын
@@Accipiter1138 Exactly. The biggest sell for the MAX is how flexible you can be with cargo loading. Any configuration up to its listed max capacity works, and it works quickly. And if you are willing to take the time to arrange things particularly then you can strech its capacity quite a bit beyond listed.

i cannot overstate just how much i absolutely love the bulgy, muscly, hot rod aesthetic of this ship. the two hab elevators seem a bit much to me, as well as just how much space is dedicated to hallways in the habs. I would have much rather seen one central hallway with the four habs, maybe share a bathroom between two on each side, then maybe give each hab a window to the outside instead of the windows in the cargo bay. galley space could be a little more efficiently used, but I don't have as many ideas on that bit, lol
@guynamedmaggi5520
@guynamedmaggi5520 Ай бұрын
Apparently they were just trying to fill the middle space cause this was modular then its modularity was scrapped so I guess its just one of those scars from modularity. the 3 elevators seem excessive though could've made the middle habs bigger.

@guynamedmaggi5520 ... that space is "technically" still modular. @Velthus
@Velthus Ай бұрын
Better alternative would have been to fill out the entire back side with a cargo grid (instead of removing it from the middle) and let players have the option of loading in a vehicle if they want to OR pack more boxes. So you can have far more in the back in larger boxes if that's your choice, or take smaller ones and the ursas/other ground vehicles. Taking choice away is not great to me IMO, for a ship of this size.

I'll let your misstatements about the cargo capacity and such go, since you corrected yourself.😉 However, I do have to quibble about the four escape pods not having enough capacity to match the double beds. So yes there should be sufficient room for one's significant other, fling, or one-night stand. 😝

The SL Max is really impressing me SubliminaL!!! Thank you as always for doing a video on this ship. I have 1 complaint however..... I do wish the wings could have collapsed in. @SubliminaL the ship can hold 2 32scu boxes on each of the sides so 4 total and 2 32scu in the back on grid plus 1 more row so the rear cargo is 3 tall. but technically off grid that's 8x32scu. Also you can park a ATLS in front of the elevator and still access it if you park in the corner. The Taurus is $1.16 per scu the SL Max is $1.12 per scu, however the Max can carry an ursa seperate from the scu grid and could actually get at least another 100 scu off grid. Also the amount of ground vehicles that can fit on the sides like the quad and stv are incredible! In the rear you can fit a Roc DS and 2 Roc at the same time!! Also 2 merlin

I would agree, a major problem allot of cargo ships have is that they may have allot of cargo space but it's 'usable' cargo space is small and forces more boxes of smaller size which takes longer to load. it takes the same amount of time to load a 1 SCU box as it does a 32 SCU box. The name of the game is how many large boxes can you fit thus reducing the number of boxes you have to load. Making the Starlancer the polar opposite of say the Zeus CL which crams every milometer of space with small boxes to get a larger 'on paper' cargo size while the Starlancer has a smaller cargo size on paper but much larger box storage grid. In that sense I agree its pretty much a larger Argo Raft with easy to snap on 32 SCU boxes but much more capable cargo wise and able to carry ground vehicles very easily. I would also agree that those turrets are for keeping the sky's clear while unloading. if you where running a full crew of 4, with 2 in the turrets it would only take 2 people minutes to offload the 6 or so 32 large containers and turn a profit in relative safety. Even a 2 man crew could do pretty well. Slow yes, but well armed and well defended and easy to move both bought cargo and 'recovered' cargo makes its pretty attractive with how difficult the cargo gameplay is with some of the other cargo ships because of the awkward cargo grids on them.

I think the Statlancer really shines in long runs like hauling all across pyro. It has the Weapons to defend itself and is better in that than other haulers like a RAFT and ofc has the giant living area. And my guess is also that you wont fill that hold all the time and focus more on chaining your contracts. The back might even be better for your personal stuff and supplies like extra fuel or whatever we will get for restocking and having a nursa or a little Vehicle to move in landing zones or even a small snub in the back

I melted my 2014 Mustang Delta and 2015 Avenger Titan then used the store credits to CCU my LTI Concept Hull-B to the Starlancer MAX. I wasn't sure how much I would like it but after playing around with it in the PTU I am very happy with it. It breaks atmo faster and flies much better than the loaner Hull A. I was trying to do some cargo runs last night and got involved in flight combat with NPCs that had taken over the distribution center as part of the 'Save Stanton' missions. It held it's own against the badly lagging NPCs and tanked a lot of damage, including me hitting the ground in the dark. The nose turned red after hitting the ground and that was about it.

In my mind the only real competitor to this is the C2, but it still costs 150 more. I understand that having cargo grids of different sizes goes into game balance, but this ship really highlights the difference between designing ships BEFORE knowing what the gameplay will entail and AFTER. They designed it with ease of loading and the simplest cargo grid they could instead of just pumping SCU numbers (looking at you Zeus CL).

As with everything in this game this is a vocal minority opinion and consensus bias. This is a sim game most backers understand that. Commodity trading hasn't been properly balanced in like 5 years. Depending on the patch it's usually not worth the risk to even do it. Most people have a fundamental misunderstanding of how to do it properly, you need to understand the cargo grid of the ship and how to min max it. Make sure you grab the largest boxes possible that can fit on the In/Out freight elevators and your own cargo grid. There are now websites and other resources that do this for you if you don't to figure it out yourself. For most bulk trades that's 36scu crates. This ship can fit eight of those, should take 2.5min for one person to load them. You spend about that much time in QT already. So, pick the right ship for the job, min max your route, and min max your cargo grid. I already know what your going to say. "No one wants to do that!" Well you're wrong. Every sim/mmo (and this game is both) have put me in a situation where I have to go online and research what is the optimal way to do a thing. If the task is challenging there is always a community website that helps you out. I stumble, I learn, I get better. That is what MMOSIM players are looking for, its really fun progressing in a game without leveling up, instead ingesting knowledge. What CIG ABSOLUTLEY HAS TO DO, is simply ensure that the player is properly compensated for their time. If it takes an hour for you to do your route but you made enough money to progress via acquiring something worthwhile then it was time well spent. You can also just pay to have the cargo loaded for you. Min-Maxers will buy a second cargo ship (in-game) and while one is loading you use the other to pick up the next load. Drop it off, pay to auto load, sell the first haul and repeat. It should feel kinda like your running a small freighting company. If that gameplay doesn't appeal to you or your friends then this game was never intended for you/them. What some people don't understand is that when CIG adds a feature, often times the big picture isn't clear if you don't follow development. So I have wrote a f'ing wall of text (🤣) painting a picture of what it will be like for someone who chooses the cargo hauling profession. Most of the features I talk about are in game already, some are coming in 4.0 and 4.0.X. There might be a couple of things that are a farther out. But this picture I'm painting isn't me dreaming, its what was promised and what most backers paid for. It is kinda long but you will see how these features that people complain about like long QT times with nothing to do, ships requiring players to crew, and time to play cargo Tetris wont be issues for much longer. I'm glad I wrote it because I will probably make a video at some point on the subject, so even if you don't read it, it wasn't a waste. Other important facts. Engineering is coming and that will be the next thing the vocal minority will complain about. Lets paint a picture. This ship should not be operated alone. Imagine having 2-3 friends with you. You are on approach to where you intend to buy cargo. Both remote turrets are manned. The Co-Pilot is managing power to prepare to possibly have to clear out hostiles. The AO is clear so you pick a spot on a pad ensuring the cargo bay is close and has line of sight of the freight elevator. Your co-pilot shifts power to max shields and weapons. While your landing, your co-pilot begins to exit the ship. As you touch down you open up all the cargo bay doors and your co-pilot hops out, sends the freight elevator down, and heads to the facility to purchase. Once its been bought, you and one of your turret gunners meet the co-pilot at the freight elevator with tractor guns. You begin removing the first of 8 SCU boxes from the freight elevator and placing them in a good location for the other two to place them on grid. After you remove the 4th crate your turret gunner informs you that there is an incoming hostile. It's a crew of NPC pirates in a cutlass. You decide to send the second turret gunner back to provide support, while you and your co-pilot continue loading. Six boxes are loaded and you are informed the pirates have been dispatched, however another pirate cutty with a light fighter escort is inbound. While your turret gunners engage the enemies you and your co-pilot load the final crate, and head to the bridge. As you sit, your co-pilot informs you shields are low. You take off, you and the first turret begin engaging the biggest threat, while the second fends off the light fighter. The cutlass goes down but by this point you have been without shields for some time. Your co-pilot shifts power to thrusters to give you more boost to track the light fighter. You take down the light fighter and your co-pilot informs you that you have lost one cooler and your powerplant is near critical. You scan the area and ensure there are no threats in the AO. Co-Pilot and a gunner head towards the damaged components while you begin scanning the two pirate cutlass wrecks. Your scan on the second cutlass shows that the pirates have 4 SCU of Gasping Weevil Eggs (High value vice commodity). As they repair the powerplant to the point that it is no longer imminent danger, you land near the ship wrecks and your co-pilot and turret gunner board the wreck. While the turret gunner loads up the vice, your co-pilot begins stripping the hull for some RMT to repair some hull damage you sustained in the fight. As the last of the vice gets loaded the ground crew heads to their places as you begin to leave orbit. Your co-pilot plots a route to a suitable place to sell the vice and you begin quantum travel. While in quantum your three crew mates begin repairs, they finish up as you approach the vice drop-off location. Your turret gunner begins repairing the exterior damage while your co pilot offloads and sells the vice. You and the remaining gunner are alert because you're in a shady part of the verse. Ship repaired, vice loaded, and as your team starts to board, you get more contacts on the radar. The faction responsible for the earlier attacks are not happy and this time bring a small fleet consisting of a light fighter, cutlass black, and heavy fighter. You decide its not worth the risk.. Your co-pilot has plotted course to the final drop off location and get away without sustaining damage. You arrive at a hangar at New Babbage. Since you are safe here its all hands on deck offloading while you head toward the TDD to sell the remaining cargo. They send the freight elevator down, and you sell the cargo. While you're here you also pick up a full load of commodities you plan on selling at the next location. As you head back you send each member their cut, while they begin loading up. By the time you get back its half loaded, you head straight back to the bridge to make sure the ship is repaired, refueled, and rearmed. RR&R finishes up, crew members place the last crate aboard and take their places. You leave the space terminal and repeat the process. The second trip is conflict free, the third you narrowly avoid a PVP pirate attack. The forth trip you have to pivot because your co-pilot has found out a space station is under attack and they are paying way above market for medical supplies, while the CDC defends, you are able to make a few trips to and from to help with the resupply efforts. It's been a few hours now and the team decides to call it. Each member by this point has made enough money to buy that new ship they wanted, or top tier components, weapons, insurance and warranty for an existing ship. The second day you get a decent haul. So the third day you decide to try your luck dropping off and picking up a load from pyro, and you enlist the support of a couple of escort pilots. The time after that things don't go so well. But you learn, and adapt. The subsequent journey goes well and is that much more fun because you've experienced loss.

@@SubliminaLstv Haha no. And the "this game was never intended for you/them" argument. What me and my friends are. Old school Eve players that loved space trucking. Onto old school elite dangerous players that loved cargo trucking. And have played every single space game in existence. No man's sky, Stellaris, sins of a solar empire, space engineers, homeworld, etc, etc. Heck we even played the ultimate of space sims the KSP series. All of these were fun. When I tell you this inventory management system is not fun you should believe it. I know you're trying to protect your income amidst the growing backlash against this game and the horrible management of their development funds. But what you should be rather than shilling for this game is flagging the stuff that will kill this game. The entire inventory management plan is one of those.

Nope what I am is someone who is in tune with a very broad portion of the community. I started getting into trading back at the original jump town. I watched entire trading communities/orgs die overnight when trading became high risk low reward. My livestream audience is very diverse when it comes to PVE gameplay mechanics. I have had plenty of people come into my chat expressing how auful the new Cargo refractor is. Here is what I learned, most people associate "cargo missions" to closely with the cargo refractor. They are not the same thing. Those missions need work TBH but in the end aren't intended to make good profit just try out the profession. Once I explain how to minmax cargo for "Comodity Trading" they agree that the refractor isn't that impactful to that more important portion of trading. But they still have an issue with how long it takes to load. Then I ask them a key followup question, "What if you were better compensated for your time?" I have yet to encounter a person who isn't on board when I ask them that simple question. You and your group of friends have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Cargo hauling is supposed to be. It's not all your fault CIG isn't the best at communication. It's always the same thing with the SC community. They tell us years ahead of time that a change is going to be made, people ignore it and get too comfortable with the easy road, then the mechanic gets put in and people bitch about it. So yes, your echo chamber friend group does not represent a majority. MM is far more polarized and even though I like the changes, hearing from the community some changes need to be made on that front. It's clear some people are leaving the project because of it. I have never heard of people leaving the verse becuase things are physicalized. Becuase it's what star citizen is supposed to be. The trading communities are waking up but won't be whole again until risk/time vs reward is balanced. And f@#k off on the chill thing, typical ignorance, assuming becuase I disagree with you that money is somehow involved. My skills in sales would pay me six figures, and my skills in design and video editing can be better spent making content for a complete game with a more active playerbase. Instead I choose to make content for this very niche game and can barley make ends meet. 🖕

@@SubliminaLstv My "echo chamber" friends? lol. I'd argue people on your livestream are the echo chamber. But I don't have to be right. This is just a game. If it fails it will be disappointing. But I won't lose sleep over it. And right now there are some glaring issues with this game. And compensation? My point is that it isn't about compensation for your time. It's about fun compensation for your time. This is why people had ZERO issue with the cargo refractor when finding cargo on bounties or taking it from PVP, pirating, etc. The cargo refractor becomes a problem when you make it an over and over and over and over again task required for cargo hauling. I'm with you as long as CIG doesn't make the autoload option unprofitable to push their ego based cargo refractors. If people like playing buggy star engine based cargo tetris go for it. If that's the only viable option I'll abandon my significant investment as money lost and play something more fun.

Geeeeshhhh! I was leaning towards jumping to the Starlancer from the Taurus, but after seeing that pull a few things stand out. First, any transport trips requiring leaving atmo are going to be painful and to watch. Second, this thing NEEEDS a speed buff or it’s dead as a transport ship.

Huge double bed habs and mess hall with non-functional pool table, non-functional kitchen area is a waste of space. Fashion over function. I was hoping this ship could be a sort of daily driver while we wait for the BLD variant. But I will continue to hold out for the Liberator and use ground vehicles for base building If we ever get it. Without some pretty major external and internal hull changes to make cargo loading and unloading more achievable and less time consuming, it's a solid pass and I'll be melting mine.

That walk ramp is ignorant! There was ZERO reason to have some walkway between the cargo! We are flying around in space, covering massive distance and CIG is more focused on some ignorant cool factor then they are functionality and the logic that utilizing every square inch effectively for what they are designing! Big disagree... it's a fantastic environment to make the ship feel alive and somewhere you could really spend time in on extended expeditions. It has room to breath and doesn't feel like you have to squeeze past your crew when moving around. Great for immersion and for those who don't need EVERY INCH of the interior to be maximsed for SCU. I personally love it and wouldn't have it any other way. For those who don't like it, there are many other ships to choose from to suit your preferences.
