if the purple potatoes the recipe called for meant something like blue andes potatoes then it's too bad you weren't able to find any! Besides just the color, they do have a unique, kind of nutty taste that sets them apart from a russet or yukon gold type of potato and I bet they would have been really good in that stew.

A few pointers for why your dought didn't work. if the water is too hot, it will kill the yeast. A good temperature is 110F. Also I am not sure why the recipe would tell you to add salt to yeast because it also kills the yeast. If you were to make it again I would suggest adding the warm water, sugar and yeast together and let it bloom for 5 mins (it will start to bubble) then add that to your dry mix of flour, spices and salt (though you should blend all your dry together first). The oil can be added at that time as well and it should be better. Also cover with plastic wrap and a dish towel and leave it in a warm area. if your house is a bit cold it may be better to let it rise in your oven just for a controlled temperature area. I hope it helps you 😊 Can't wait to see your next video!

There's a guy who does a lot of videos about bread making and he tested the salt and was shocked to find no difference... That said this feels different, I don't remember what order he mixed it in, but I feel like it was different from this, maybe it bloomed separately from the salt and then just got mixed directly with the salt.

@@MisoHungrie It's possible that your yeast failed because of the salt in the water and wasn't left to bloom. Salt and yeast have to be kept separate most often, as the salt will kill the yeast. Next time, leave the salt out of the water and let the yeast "bloom" for a few minutes. The liquid mixture should foam up a little. Then add your dry ingredients.

Yeast could’ve also been dead since that can cause issues
@wrongeden3420 Жыл бұрын
@@MisoHungrie so with the yeast its usually supposed to sit and foam up for 10 min in just the sugar and water, must be slightly above luke warm. the oil and salt probably prevented it from growing.

I really enioyed the video, as always! I've been looking forward to you covering this cookbook. Since I bake a lot and used to struggle with bread too, my two best guesses when comes to your dough not rising, besides the water temperature, are: 1. Adding the salt directly into the water mixture instead of mixing it in with the flour, since salt can kill yeast 2. You possibly didn't let the yeast sit with just the water and sugar for about 5 minutes and get foamy before adding in everything else
@MisoHungrie2 жыл бұрын
Ahh yeah that could be the case. Baking is such a science! Thanks for the tips ☺️

Contrary to popular belief, salt does not kill yeast unless you're talking like 60%+ saline water. Half a teaspoon of salt in 3/4th a cup of water killing a whole package of yeast is... silly. Honestly, the olive oil was probably the real culprit. Oil and water don't mix, but yeast and oil do. The yeast gets covered in oil and it inhibits the hydration of the yeast. Next time, mix in everything *but* the olive oil and let the yeast bloom. You'll know it when you see it. ...and this one might be a silly moment but: Make sure to check the expiration date on your yeast.

The blue milk is super interesting and creative. As was the wrap which looked way better than the themepark version (though I guess there's only do much you can do with themepark food). As for why it didn't rise: Maybe the place you stored it wasn't warm enough? If I have troubles with my dough, I just put it in the oven for half an hour at about 50 C° (obvs w/o the plastic wrap). But also that's just how yeast sometimes acts. Fresh yeast usually gets better results, but that's also no guarentee. A moody lil thing. 😅

I have never had before a cookbook in which every single recipe i try simply works perfectly without tweaking anything, but this one is just perfect every time. Sure,, a few recipes aren't my favorite, but not because of any failing from the book! A few of my opinions on some of the recipes (and also my personal recommendations!!) Mimbanese Mudslide: perfect chocolate dessert. I've made this SO many times, i've lost count. It's just so tasty, even warm! Zoochberry Surprise: such a great cheesecake recipe. I've had friends literally pay me to make this one for them, no joke. It's just THAT good. Highly recommend it! And it's super easy, too Huttese Slime Pods: i just couldn't believe how good this recipe was. It looked gross (on purpose haha) but the flavor was mindblowing. It's a bit expensive to get the ingredients here where i live, otherwise i'd do this every week. Moogan Tea: I didn't have much faith in this recipe, to be honest, but i wanted to give it a go. And im so glad i did, it was just so great! sweet and cold, perfect for summer, and particularly for people like me who love both tea and chocolate milk~ Overall, im just really happy with this cookbook, and it may be my favorite one ever. Still, I've yet to come across something I didn't like, and most of the ingredients are easy enough to find.
