HI Miss Angler, Does CO2 move from capillaries to alveoli first or O2 moves from alveoli into capillaries first. Because in the image, it shows that CO2 moves out first. Only then red blood cell accepts the O2. Could you please clarify?

question from a grown up: i smoke. nicotine gets to my brain in 10 seconds. the risdual and tidal diffusion sounds slow when you talked about it but it for is NOT. So how speedily Oxygen and co2 travel around via blood...hope i find a video that you talk about that. Also, if I have taken a puff of cigarette, it seems, that bloody chunk of smoke is going to sit in my lungs residual volume for a long time. Ewwww. I am quitting. I wonder how fast something like that gets out of the whole residual system. Just trying to picture the pace of things moving around....from air...to blood. Thanks. if you have a video on this kindly link in answer to this comment and i'll get notified. will really appreciate that.
