Only one way forward: Type VIIC and then become a member of the U-Flak Master Race! Out of jokes, pick whatever you're more comfortable with. We watch for the Captain, not the ship :D

First of all, loving the series, watching you play is helping maintain my sanity while I finish my masters thesis and am being withheld from the high seas! Some suggestions based on your pondering of what to do next - Type IX. Slower, bigger target, yes. But more torpedos, drastically longer range and newer less hostile hunting grounds. West African coast, eastern United States and the Caribbean. Very ripe hunting grounds at this time of the war with minimal escorts. You have far more options for hunting grounds in a Type IX and could even go to the pacific if you survive long enough. February 1941 is an absolutely perfect time to make this switch as you can still enjoy the second happy times on the east coast of the USA. Pro tip: the uselessly slow Mk.1. 37/40mm on the type IX can’t do much to planes, but CAN sink a damaged freighter if you’re out of torpedos and 105mm deck gun ammo. Just requires a bit of patience, persistence and good aim for the waterline. On crew management, I strongly recommend you always have fully filled engine rooms with at least two petty officers, preferably both with the machinist skill. Have another two machinist skill petty officers and six crewman resting in the rear quarters as the ‘alternate’ engine room crew. Swap the teams out on a regular basis to manage fatigue and maximise efficiency. When diving be careful as two crew from a full diesel compartment will be left behind during the auto move to the electric engine room, same for electric to diesel when surfacing. When surfaced, either have a Watchman trained Officer on the bridge with a full compliment of regular crewman, or a Watchman Petty Officer with three crewman. You always want a fresh experienced watch officer on the bridge, and should set up an alternate watch team you swap in and out like the engine room crew. After diving make sure to go into the crew manager and move the watch crew that just came below decks from the forward torpedo room to the forward crew quarters, otherwise they get SMASHED by fatigue. Well rested eyes spot enemy aircraft and ships much earlier giving you precious additional seconds to dive. As a general rule try to keep at most two Officers in the command room when underway with two resting when your Watch Officer is on the bridge. Train a second Watch Officer if you haven’t already - super important for managing fatigue (especially if you get a Type IX). In terms of petty officers you have three radio operators - this is a waste, you only need two for a full radio/sonar room when submerged. You have two flak gunners for one peashooter 20mm, you only need one and should be immediately crash diving when aircraft are spotted (especially if you get a type IX) anyway. If you stay surfaced for the initial pass, crash dive IMMEDIATELY after bombs/depth charges land and you’re sure you don’t have critical damage. One watchman PO is enough, same for Medic and deck gunner skill. Three to four torpedo men is ideal for a Type VII or about five for a Type IX (three forward torpedo room, two aft during combat). Any spare PO’s should be trained as repairman. Never have a petty officer wasted in the command room - two Officers are enough for close to maximum efficiency. Untrained petty officers are better used as Machinists in training to bump up engine efficiency or as relief for the resting Radioman. Happy hunting!

Bear in mind - the type IX uboats do take much longer to dive, being significantly larger boats. On the other hand, given that you now know you must remain submerged during the day, perhaps this is the time. You wouldn't want to use one in the med though.
@thisherehandleIdospout
@thisherehandleIdospout Ай бұрын
I wouldn't say *much* longer... but definitely longer 😕Faster on the surface, though, bigger deck gun... Good advice about the Med, though! Overall, a very fair assessment, sir 👍

24:40 if your crew refuse to fire press space while aiming at them with binoculars or uzo to mark the target, if they still don't fire it's some bug where they think the visibility is worse than what you can see

This is intersting. The Fairey Fulmar had a range of just 780 miles if carrying a bomb - single 250lb or single 500lb (note - single) and 1100 miles if carrying a drop tank instead - thus no bomb. The game developer is playing very fast and loose with reality, evidently.

I mean carriers are in the game aren't they? Is it possible that there was one operating nearby? Could explain the overwhelming air suppression that he was experiencing for the last few episodes at the very least.
@vipertwenty249
@vipertwenty249 2 ай бұрын
@@Raidensreal Hmmm. One single bomb per aircraft remember - that's all the Fulmar could carry, so how do 2 Fulmars drop 6 bombs? So it's a developer fudge to put in anti submarine air patrols with faster aircraft, which they were over the other types available at the time.

All U-boot types have their own ups and downs, and you really need to decide what you want to do for the rest of the war: do you want to slug it out in the ever decreasing and ever more dangerous mid-Atlantic Gap, or you want to appear in places where English don't expect you to be and therefore have less resources to suppress you? I personally don't like the British Isles breathing down my neck, and SH3 loves giving me the worst imaginable weather around Britain 24/7.

Fantastic episode once again 👏👏👏 personally I'd much prefer to see you stay in the Type VII class of boats, eventually ending up with the Type VIIC/42, which is an absolute beast of a U-BOAT 😉👍 looking forward to the next installment.

Would be awesome if your high command sent you to the south of Africa or even to the Indian Sea as a sort of "punishment". And then, in 1942-43 you'll return to the Middle Sea when things would get more "interesting". And I think all wanna see Type IX boat, and I think African coast is so underrated in Silent Hunter players, would like to see it in your measured play.

Your choice on which boat to take, your best chances to survive the war to may 8th 1945 is the VIIC fully upgraded and save up for the XXI as soon as possible or go with a type IX and stay out of air patrols as much as possible.. Regardless, it will be interesting. Having a bit of pocket change can make a nice trip to a great trip ;). Enjoy

The game throws way too many aircrafts at you than in real life and out of nowhere sometimes to have the time to react even at night with not so good visibillity and its only 1941...As for the ship you couldnt catch up it was probably a troop transport or one of these annoying irish ships maybe..Pretty interested to see if you will take the type ix or continue with an upgraded u55.That's a dilemma for sure!!
