I have been collecting patterns for some time now, because I lost my pattern notebooks in a move about 5 yrs ago. One of my new patterns has stars like this in it so I am watching this to learn the technique. I'm almost 70 and taught myself how to make patchwork quilts about 10 years ago. Wanting one for myself as my blanket. It is 45 yrs old and I've slept under it almost every night. My 'blankie' was made with my mother helping me, it was my 1st. We made it by sewing 2 flat sheets together, adding a thick batting and tying it with yarn. Now, after all these yrs, it is threadbare. With a corner chewed by a puppy, everyone important and loved in my life, have slept under it. It saddens me, but I need a new quilt. With a growing family, it seems that I have given all the patchwork quilts I have made, away over the years. So thank you very much for showing me how to sew "my" last quilt, top. The others I will make after it, will most likely be given away too. But this one will be mine. I'll send it out to be hand quilted, as I've lost my quilting frame and my hands are too arthritic to hand quilt again. Machine quilted tops are very pretty but a hand quilted quilt, is special. Each one of my quilts have been made with love and kindness with every stitch. Lots of prayers are put into them, too! I'll share my quilting tips to make a beautiful, treasured quilt with you who are reading this... The quilts you make today may be a life's comfort to those who are fortunate to sleep warm, under them. It's not the quilt so much as the blessings you put into them. Don't forget that little bit of extra, when you sew your quilts. I believe that thoughts are things, so never get angry or resentful as you sew your creations. Always ask God to bless your work as you hand the finished product to another. God bless! ~Grammy D

Grammy D, you’re an inspiration. I love your sharing your journey of your blankie. After you make your new quilt. Just a suggestion. Why don’t you section off your old one, and frame it with a little message about how it was made by you and your mum, and what it’s meant to you all these years. Then you can share your old blankie with loved ones who will cherish it and your memories.
@MrsMTMomma3 жыл бұрын
From one grammy to another....Thank you for sharing your beautiful story and the message of prayers, love and feelings that you put in every quilt. How blessed are al of those quilt recipients to have one of your quilts. I am blessed with 5 grandkids who have all received a graduation quilt to take to college with grammy's love inside. Of course all 4 sons have also received quilts. Since I learned to quilt after 3 had finished college their quilts were wedding quilts...all king sized, since those "boys" range from 6'1" to 6'5"! One lucky son got a college graduation quilt and a wedding quilt.

Nanna Liz. There are videos on KZbin of Russian people who save bobcats etc and actually have one as a pet. They even shampoo it in the bath and it waits for its food to be cut up very patiently. Sometimes the bond between animals and humans surprises you, though I guess you shouldn't try this at home...😂

I LOVE this quilt! I have a fat quarter bundle that should work very nicely! I've made Lonestar quilts cutting each individual diamond! PHEW!!! This IS SOOO much easier. Ladies, do not be intimidated by this block; it looks complicated, but it is easy to put together. If you have never made a diamond star like this, practice on scrap fabric first. Most importantly, maintain accurate cutting & accurate 1/4" seam allowances (oh, and match your seams). You'll be surprised at the ease of making this block! Thanks Jenny & MSQC; you guys rock!❣

Jenny You are the best! Your enthusiasm, even after all the years You have been making quilts, is something all Die hard quilt makers can totally relate to. I sure can. It made me smile to see that Your approach to making these stars was the same as mine too, which makes so much sense compared to many Lone star type patterns. You keep quilt making a fun adventure, which is how it is supposed to be. (I also wanted to hear more about the bunny that visited You :) ) Thanks for another wonderful tutorial.

I love this one!!!!! I can’t tell you how much you have inspired me along the way. I “found” you three years ago after having surgery in my toe which forced me to find something to keep me busy why recuperating. I had to stay off my foot for two months, then rehab so sewing was something that fit right in😊. (My mom taught me to sew when I was very young so it was second nature to me to begin with). I wanted to do something that was “new” but familiar (does that make sense?). I always made my clothes - never quilts. Fast forward three years - I can’t stop quilting! I sew every day, I bought a long arm machine and I use every scrap! After the quilt is done, I make a runner with the left over fabric. After the runner is done, I find something to do with “mount scrapmore”. Nothing goes to waste unless it is less than 1/2 inch piece. I am just finishing a spider web quilt using the small periwinkle template you sell. That used up a lot of smaller scraps. MANY thanks for your videos. Not only do my friends and family thank you (they get the quilts) but sewing brings back so many cherished memories of my mom. It’s one way of being close to her, at least in my heart. She lived to be 99 1/2 so there are many memories to conjure up as I sew.

Sorry: what I meant to say you could make a parallel cut to your seam so you can practice again What I should have said about keeping the threads out of the way is just lay them on the bed very gently so they don’t make a mess. After 3-4 stitches you can let go
