The point about not restarting when you make a mistake is true. Just take a deep breath and start that section again, but as a slightly better tip, instead of saying 321 clap your hands twice quickly. It is actually far easier for editing as it shows up much more clearly on the audio track (it makes two very visible spikes). It is difficult to remember to do it at first, but you soon get used to it. It saves loads of time with editing later.

I love what you say about experimenting with your niche. So many times we are told that WE HAVE TO NICHE DOWN on KZbin. I actually started doing skincare videos but I did this one video on Cardi B's Hair Mask (Four Week Update) and KZbin picked it up for whatever reason. So then I switched to doing Black-owned hair care brands and doing four-week updates on those products. And I do know now that one of the mistakes I made is talking tooooo much. I have learned I need to give myself points to stick to because I go off on tangents all the time. Thanks Erin!

I definitely need to stop rambling in the beginning of my videos lol. I've been trying to work on that recently

Thanks for the tips. I just started filming my first video couple of days ago. I learned quickly that doing everything in a single take isn't going to be the norm starting out. Editing is a life saver!

I definitely realized my intro was too long it was 10 seconds I shortened it to 5 & ive been thinking about getting rid of it altogether lol. I also noticed that my videos are long and drawn out because I’m talking a lot and all over the place but that’s how I talk in real life 😂😂😂 it will help my retention a lot I think if I’m more focused on the point of the video and not scattered. Your videos are very helpful, thank you so much also for reminding me to enjoy and embrace the beginning stages of KZbin because this is where I’m able to make mistakes, while I’m still starting and learning and it’s ok to try different things in the process. Thanks girl for some awesome and genuine advice!!

I don’t believe what she says, sometimes I tend to like and subscribe while watching a video of someone else because I may forget. But I guess that depends on how you feel.

I actually watched one of your videos before I started my own channel. From that video I learned some tips on how to position myself in front of the camera and how important that you have a good lighting. In this video, a mistake that I want to fix is trying to redo my recording from the top every time i make mistakes. True to what you say, it is a waste of time. i love watching your videos. Thank you for this one. Kudos!

You know, I've had friends say recently to me, "oh, I didn't know you can subscribe to a KZbin channel." They are millennials... yikes. So I personally choose to have a CTA to sub near the end of my videos (just in case;))

"If they like you, they will subscribe?" Even the biggest youtubers still ask for likes and comments so clearly reminding ppl to like and subscribe works. Terrible advice.
@luceritopreciado35814 жыл бұрын
It’s only a reminder so they don’t forget to subscribe or like. I’ve like youtubers for who they are and sometimes I’m not thinking about subscribing or liking because I’m into to video content. As soon as they mention it I do it because they remind me.

One mistake thing I will fix: waiting/overthinking stuff. (I have my intro done but now I have to shorten it even more). Long intros and talking about where "you've been"....rambling for 4 min and then saying "Now I'm gonna get right into it" haha. People needed this Erin...somebody had to say it!

Newtuber here! This is such an informative video but not in a way where I can’t focus and I wanna click off. You’re keeping me engaged. You seem so comfortable!! One thing I want to change (already) not going off on tangents and creating an outline for each video!
@ToddBangz4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Erin. This was valuable. The one mistake i'm making that I plan to fix ASAP is... repurposing old videos as my experimental phase of youtube. I need to press record and film more newer ideas and experiment with those instead. I know that wasn't in your list but that's the mistake I need to fix. Respect :)

Girl! I'm a new subscriber, but honey, I just love your channel. I'm in the process of starting my channel. I'm using my phone and I already have my accessories and my "studio" done and I'm hoping to do my first vid next week! I will continue to visit your channel for advice. Great info and it's just you being you! I love it! Keep being great!! Thank you!
@sigh_yuri4 жыл бұрын
thank you so much for saying that it's okay to experiment for the first several videos. there's too many so called "advice" videos about starting a channel that keep saying that you need to figure out your niche and your mission statement and your narrative and "what am i bringing to my audience" and i'm just like... how will i know that until i figure out what my audience wants and what really clicks with me? to me starting a youtube channel is no different than starting to wear makeup - you won't know which brands you like until you have others to compare them to but you can't compare something you know nothing about, YOU HAVE TO TRY IT.

I was getting ready to create a 20 sec intro from my vlogs deciding against it after watching this. I’m still figuring out my channel and trying to get out of my head and post all the content that I’ve already filmed. Workouts, recipes, DIL, Wellness Tips, behind the hustle running my own fitness studio. I feel all over the place, but I’ll consider this the experimental phase.

I like the warm up to the camera suggestion. I know I have a tendency to press play and just start or rather press record and just start. But I like that I'm definitely going to use that in my videos.

Erin, I like the point you made about if you mess up. Just start from the sentence not the entire recording. Point taken and will be utilized.
