The song "Potemkin City Limits" was written for the album "Potemkin City Limits" but wasn't finished and didn't get selected for the album (as you're probably aware, bands write several songs but only a few are selected and finished for albums). When the time came to write their next album, "Supporting Caste", they pulled the song "Potemkin City Limits" off the shelf, finally finished it, and recorded it for the album. (I used to write for a website -- I interviewed their drummer, Jord, one night in London, Ontario when they were touring and promoting "Supporting Caste". This is what he told me. Great interview, the guys are all professional, kind, and hilarious.)

And yeah, last album in E and also where Chris achieved his highest vocal notes ever. Most of PCL songs I couldn't sing in a karaoke or something. You encouraged me doing a react channel here when they release next album. Great video for one of my all-time favorites! I'd definitely recommend reading the lyrics on your next listen. As others have said, it 's about Chris imagining what would happen immediately after the US and Canada declared war on each other. The theme of the song is significantly darker than than the music would indicate, but there are some very funny lines thrown in ("your stupid f****** laser pucks were just the start" refers to a much-hated failed experiment in the 1990s to add an animated tracer line to the puck in broadcast NHL games, the purpose of which was to make the sport easier for Americans to watch). The dichotomy between extremely dark/politically charged lyrics and very funny lines is a signature of the band and it enhances to music even further in my opinion. I laugh every time I hear that line. Also great Jord shout out! I don't know why he never gets bought up in conversations about the best drummers working today, but he absolutely is. HIGHLY recommend checking out the live footage of this song excerpted from the audition of their newest guitar player. The mix on it is incredible for a live video and I guarantee you won't believe it's their first time playing together. Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZbIn3l9gtGNlZY

"Potemkin City Limits" is kind of a standout as far as sound goes. It's tuned higher than their other records (with the exception of "How to Clean Everything", maybe?) and so it just completely alters the way Chris Hannah approaches vocals as he reaches for those higher notes.
