Actually this delivery is caused more out of his use of drugs namely cocaine. When he first started he was much more confident and wasn’t on drugs. As time went by he became a completely different person on and off the stage. His original stage personality was cool and calm with slow and concise delivery. By now he has developed a stammer and is fidgety all the time on and off the stage. He was another great comedian gone too soon from drugs.

One of the things -- one of the many things -- that made Mitch Hedberg so unconventional and yet so funny was the emphasis he put on the unexpected syllable. He often didn't just accent the one you'd expect, but one or two more, as in "YO-PLAIT." "TENN-is BALLS," "SEM-i CIR-cle." It just worked.

Vulgarity is NOT FUNNY, FOXX, MURPHY after him, and many others (Dice Clay) use vulgarity for it's purely shock value...it gets old, fasT!! Now Carlin's 7 words routine; though it did use vulgrity, did so by enticing people to think about the world we live in, why can't these words be used in TV, and of course Lenny Bruce opened that door for many other comedians that followed. Bruce and Carlin were not just comedians, though both were at times hillarous, but were social activist, holding up a mirror to hypocrosy and "social norms"!

He was extremely socially awkward, so it might seem odd that he became a comedian that performs onstage. I imagine that initially he used comedy as a means to cope with social awkwardness earlier in life and then used drugs to help him actually do his comedy on stage. And this ultimately killed him. He does most of his set with his eyes closed, which is another indicator of his dilemma.
