9:00 Mitch in the case the pain is really bad I recommend you eat some paracetamol or diclofenac, basically pills that help to reduce the pain. For me, it doesnt stop the pain entirely, but it reduce it like 60-70% :D Also good vídeo as always B) /

@@Gameboygenius what? He meant that, by the time Mitch took to beat the two first worlds, he (Joe) wouldn't have gone through the first two levels. The WHOLE SPEEDRUN is almost 53 minutes long. The aforementioned two worlds took less than 10 minutes. Even if it's an exaggeration (probably), that's still feasible for casual players.

@@mariano3716 no, it's just the first world. Joe takes 10 minutes to beat 1-1 and 1-2. Mitch takes 9 minutes to finish hrough to World 1 Airship. That's what he was meaning.

I know someone who had teeth whitening too.. They call those random pains "Zingers"... The dentist did not warn them that it was a potential effect of the procedure, only telling them to expect a sensitivity to cold food and drinks. These "zingers" knocked them on their back, crying.. and the whitening will fade after a bit. They will NEVER use that dentist nor get whitening done again after that experience

That was an incredibly impressive run Mitch. Especially given that it was your first Famicom run. The hammer bros in world 5 and 6 were complete frigs and 7-1 was 7-1 so plenty of time to save. Excited to see more runs of this version. Also, 1 month as a member as of today woo!

Hey Mitch, just a routing thought- since taking damage takes you all the way down to small Mario, is there anywhere you would consider keeping raccoon tail a bit longer so you can go straight from it into fire flower? Save an extra power up gather/animation?

I'm pretty sure everyone avoids the flower at all costs because of its flight. You want to have p speed jumping as much as possible

@@stompingpeak2043 I assume you mean the raccoon tail. It is usually lost as soon as possible because of slower movement yes, but the cost of routing an extra power up block after using a p-wing before getting back fire isn't negligible. So usually in 3, you use p wing, immediately take damage next level, still big Mario, get fire flower. Now you have to get big first. So the idea is to look for places where it's faster to skip a power up, or possibly where it's better to delay damage to get the most out of it since you only get one

@@mjp121 well most power ups aren't that far out of the way if you get the right ones. I still think the time loss of the leaf would be larger than the cost of spending 1.5 seconds to get a mushroom. If it becomes that big of a deal someone could hit the card game for a few seconds and never get a powerup. Get a mushroom and flower then leave lol

I don't know how much slower raccoon tail is, but flight/slow fall is optional- pretty sure the loss is from tail spin every time you start running, and otherwise the difference is fractional. 1.5 seconds for a power up is pretty significant in routing world- enough to consider if you can get rid of it in routing anyway

Hey Mitch - I know you like to play on original hardware. I think you got yourself an actual Famicom if I'm not mistaken. When I was a kid we lived in Indonesia, and we had some Japanese games (TMNT, Batman), and we had an adapter that attached to the game so we could stick them into our American NES. Ever thought about doing something like that? I'm not sure how the frame rate compares between the Famicom and the NES.

I'm in no way a speed runner, just a veteran, but can I ask why you go so far left during the flight? Is the momentum gained faster than riding the wall straight up? Godspeed 🍄 01:41

That's exactly it. If you hit the wall, you lose your x momentum. So if you hug the wall, your x momentum stays at 0 until you reach the ledge, and then you will start accelerating. If instead you fly left then right, you never hit the wall and you have full x momentum by the time you reach the top. There are 8 more tiles of height off screen, so there's quite a bit to ascend before reaching the top.

So much entertaining that run was ! thanks for posting that format, I've watch it all and it was a breeze. Stupid question I need to ask is why you don't jump to take the kings rod in mid air instead of waiting for it to fall down ? you can maybe save a few seconds especially in the warpless cat

If he doesn't score the off-screen wand grab, then he has to wait for Mario holding the wand to fall all the way off the bottom of the screen before the screen cuts to inside the throne room. A surprising fact about this game is that the wand by itself actually falls slightly faster than Mario holding the wand does. So since the wand has to travel the full height of the screen either way, you want as much of that distance to use the faster fall as possible.

Are FPGA consoles allowed for SMB3 runs? I read on the Speedrun.com-linked Google Doc that people using emulators need to use one with an FPS counter. I don't expect something like the NT Mini has an FPS counter, but you could also argue that it's not an emulator in the traditional sense.

Why can’t you off screen wand grab on ever world?

You have to wall jump against the right wall and stand on top of that right wall, then jump off and catch the wand as it is at the top middle of the screen. It can only be done in boss rooms that have raised platforms so you can get enough height (from the wall jumps) to stand on top of the right wall. If you do it in a boss room with flat, level ground throughout the entire room, you cannot get enough height to stand on top of the right wall.
