@@X862go no, the issues that have frustrated their playerbase are not due to hardware limitations, they are because of idiotic and incompetent design decisions. Like launching new redundant content like the sky island, launching pets with non working pets hot on the heels of the players spending a full year begging for them to fix the non working class skills and broken dungeons, launching 1/3rd of a class with zero clear roadmap for if or when the rest will be made, launching a whole new game that is literally only a gear grind, and giving all their players an instant level up to max level negating the reason to play the game at all. Or picking an arbitrary launch date, then having a beta week in which they don't listen to any of the "testers" and launching anyways because it isn't actually a beta test it's a hype generation period. @CaptainNoFace10 ай бұрын
The part where you say about "A time when MMO players spoke to each other." is so spot on. I love this genre, I really do. But it's gotten to a point where I actively loathe the experience of new MMO's. So much emphasis on providing all the information, making sure every one has access to gear to perform the content they want "when" they want, making sure you know exactly where you need to go in the world to do quests, making sure all of the zones are predictable and easy to access after a certain gated "level" has been achieved, making sure gear is accurate in stats so that content 'can' be beaten with easy to get get gear but just beating the content at a slower rate, but faster if you have higher levelled gear which in most cases means the higher levelled gear has some sort of time gate on it like only being able to turn in so many resources a week before acquiring said item, so that the only factor of you getting the item is how long you wait for it, reducing the challenge to nothing. The list goes on and on. We live in a day where if information isn't available at a moments notice and is not easy to access, then people quickly lose interest. And not only do MMO dev's know this, they build their games around it and in most cases they realise that the p2w route is financially better despite it being really bad PR for the game. We used to play Guild Wars and would say 'Too Poor Play Guild Wars' whenever we saw someone playing WoW in vent. As a result, I played Turtle WoW recently and had a blast on that since I never got the chance the play the "original" vanilla. "I need to ask someone about this" or "I need help to beat this" were common things I was saying to myself while playing. That feeling of a community driven knowledge base that can be accessed by simply socialising and talking to one another is absolutely lost in new MMO's. Even a game like City of Heroes (Which please do a video on because the publishing rights to the game actually got bought by a private server at the start of the year and they revived the game. Again, that "social" aspect is there for that game. ) can feel like a fresh new experience just because the game is not going to tell you the majority of it's functions later on, it might give you a "tip" box but whether or not you listen to the tips or forget them can drastically affect your play later on. This happened to me and not only did some people fly over to help me, but they gave me a lot of help to get started too. Anyway point is that new MMO's may look flashy and cool and interesting, but quickly deform it tedium and mediocrity due to QoL changes dev's feel they need to keep player retention in the modern day. I think for older players like us, the concept of a virtual online world with thousands of players online being the main draw point of a game is now completely gone, since that idea is not new or interesting to people, and forcing newer MMO players to interact and learn from their mistakes and from other people is considered out-dated and not worth the time to invest when their are other games that do it "quicker and easier." As a kid I would use MMO's because I really struggled with making friends and socialising so seeing the genre go down this route is pretty sad to say the least. Love your videos so far man, your jokes are bang on "maintain composure in the heat of embarrassment and failing to do so." humour, so binging them on my day off.

There's an inherent problem with all MMO's as with all single player games. After about 200 hours you've pretty much had a gut full of grinding away. At first its fun and new and interesting, but when you find yourself repeating the same action over and over again you start to wonder what other game you can be playing. That's not so bad for a single player game but for an MMO a shrinking player count means death. To make matters worse, in VR the game play is physically draining. You're standing for hours and swinging your arms, etc. Pretty soon you feel reluctant to get back into play cause you know how tiring it is. The only way to keep an MMO interesting is if the devs keep pumping in new content and new environments to discover and explore. Which is a hard thing to do for a small team.

My problem with almost all vr games is the combat Emerson. Take Zenith as an example, the combat with swords and kambits are just slashing through the air with no reward of each hit. Then there is blade and sorcery which has pretty good combat but the ragdolls make it too easy and there is no progression or story like an MMO. Dungeons of Eternity has great combat with its dungeon crawling but it gets very repetitive and the grind for more levels tend to get boring and less rewarding. Until the day a "good" immersive vr mmorpg game comes out either I am going to wait or maybe learn to create vr games myself and fulfill my desire of a immersive mmorpg.

Taking on an MMO already takes a huge amount of money to keep up. Plus with VR being limited, its hard to gain a lot of fanbase living off of a one pay, play forever model.

Please be wary about buying this. As Mitch mentioned, they're revealed that they're pivoting away from being an MMO. The Lost City won't be getting any more updates, as they focus on a new "social hub with activities" mode.

To everyone saying it's dead because of the devs... I wouldn't use the word "dead". It can still be revived, they still have the fanbase. People are still looking forward to it and wait for something to happen. I feel like is not only me that bought this game at launch, didn't play in the last year or so but still wait for something interresting to happen. The momment they introduce fishing properly I'll be back in seconds xD

Dudes !! Buy yourselves VR hardware and hop into that game. In my opinion its the most SAO like game we have so far for VR and the game play is really awesome. Infinity Realms is just a very very short teaser of what awaits you in "the real MMO "The last City". I already played hundrets of hours but without new player its getting lonely in the low and mid level areas. I know the hardware is expensive but its worth it ! With 300-500 for a standalone headset you are in. Alone for that game its worth it, but playing Assetto Corsa in VR is a thing by itself as well ;) - Whatever - Zenith is a must for every true MMORPG fan.

Oh when i played in "beta" Zenith, there was no tutorial. So they added missing stuff and improved it for new users. Character generator was also later added. I still hate the stupid world map design. It's worst one with wrong colors, hard to see where it is because layers are not colored well in height. Might try again what is improved and what not.

Zenith is a good game. Good mechanics. A few quirks. Overall well made. Crafting and questing and traveling and skills are all cool but take a moment to figure out. The players in-game are helpful and cool.

Zenith will be a testament to all the things you SHOULD NOT do if you're making a VRMMO (and some of the things you SHOULD do of course, it's not completely made of mistakes alone). The bones in this corpse of a game could be fuel to help a FUTURE developer create something greater, that envisions what Zenith was SUPPOSED to be...There's probably a universe in which Zenith The Last City was not dropped and probably succeeded in making an Iconic VRMMO for the world to recognize and enjoy. Sadly, in this universe it tanked. One would think Skyland is the starter island, but in some weird way it's BOTH Endgame & Starter.... That NOT being quantifiable alone is a red flag, it shows the game didn't know what to do with itself, just as much as we didn't know what to do with it at this point.. Hell people couldn't even find the godstones they hunted for so persistently and this island was basically at the center of that nutty situation built purely on circumstance since shortly after the game itself was discontinued..

One of the biggest tragedies in gaming. Actively choosing to operate at a loss instead of listening to their player base and selling simple things like cosmetics. They even had a fortune 500 CEO provide a detailed plan in discord for how to turn the game around, and instead decided to kick their original supporters to the curb and turn it into a caricature of itself.

There are at least 2 more VRMMOs waiting in the wings, namely Ilysia and Freeland. Unfortunately in their current states they make Zenith look good. Zenith did a fair number of things right but I get the impression that they have spent the last 4 years racing to get the game "good enough" with a too small team and often misplaced priorities. There's plenty of fun if you go in with your own group, but there are many aspects that are overly grindy.
