The deflector inside the shroud is an excellent idea. I will incorporate it in my next build. Thank you

I really think it makes a difference.

Hey that’s great and super simple. I also like the use of the brackets to hold the materials.

I appreciate it. I love simple!

I bet if you attach a short piece of hose to the vacuum port on the saw and place it into the inlet, you could eliminate even more dust accumulation. Great idea, and it looks nice too.
@CarpentryPlus2 жыл бұрын
Yeah man I actually tried that but I didn’t notice much of a difference. I’ve always been happy with this saw except for the dust collection.

@@CarpentryPlus it's all miter saws. You would think with all the good diy solutions out there some designer would produce a saw ready to go out of the box

Great thing living in a rural area. I used to have mine get put into a bin behind my shop I miss that setup but the wife didn’t like the cloud of dust back there all the time 😉

It’s visibly pulling the dust plume back into the hood. Move your blower until the inlet lines up with the hopper elbow and eliminate as much corrugated hose and elbows as you can. Put some ramps in the rear recess to make it a proper hopper. Working on plans for dust collection in a dedicated Bosch 12 station. I’ve been studying lots of videos on chop saw dust collection. None of them are a silver bullet. Probably means an “all of the above” approach. Wouldn’t hurt to have a valved vacuum hose with a round brush as part of the collection apparatus. I tried a vac on the dust port of my old DW708 and got no visible improvement.

Straight up elegant! I use a similar non-sliding Dewalt model and need to contain dust for my on site finish carpentry ops. One question: with the arched hood sized as you have it, does it allow full range of both miter and bevel angle adjustments the saw is capable of? Thanks for post.

Thought you had a paper drum cut in half. Like to see it shooting dust out the back. Is that a 2 hp blower. Great idea…
@CarpentryPlus Жыл бұрын
It’s a 1 hp blower.

I dig the hood. How does one bend hardboard without it snapping?
@CarpentryPlus2 жыл бұрын
Just don’t over bend it I guess. I probably couldn’t have bent this much farther without it snapping.

I was thinking the same. I bet getting it wet will be helpful too.
@peterbarlow8912 Жыл бұрын
Never wet mdf! 1/8” will bow pretty easily. I also thought at first you chopped up a paper barrel.

I've been trying to figure out my 2hp HF collector for both table saw and miter. I like this a lot and thanks for showing it collecting fines too. Do you have a good set up for the saw? I dont want to use extractor plus Dust collection and figure I'll pipe down from the 4" to the top blade guard
@CarpentryPlus2 жыл бұрын
I tried to connect a hose to the saw itself but it didn’t do so great. The dust collection on the dewalt saw isn’t good. That’s why I decided to just do this hood and it does pretty decent.
@daveknott45632 жыл бұрын
@@CarpentryPlus Thanks for getting back to me! I'll keep it simple for the miter like you said. On the other machine, I meant to ask about the table saw, I'm wondering if you've come up with a good solution. Perhaps the 2" port and upper extractor is sufficient. I'm going to pipe the top off the bottom and call it a day.

I’ve got a SawStop with the overarm dust collection. It does pretty good. At least I don’t feel like I’m standing there eating sawdust while using it.

Looks like it works well for you. If I understand the setup correctly, you should be aware of a potential fire/explosion risk. It appears your fan, motor, and wiring components are not spark proof or rated for dusty applications. An electrical spark might ignite the dust when you leak expect it. Plus, dust becomes more explosive when it's airborne and in "cloud form". If you have a filter of some kind between the dust and fan inlet (which I didn't see), 99+% of what I just said is all wrong!
@Renrondog2 жыл бұрын
Roll eyes...., even without a filter your still 99% wrong. Try this, set up a propane torch behind your miter saw, see if the dust burns. It won't. Saw motors have brushes which create very high temperature arcs. I've never heard of a saw motor causing the dust to explode. The fan does not blow dust past the windings either, and the MYTH of dust in pipes exploding from static charge is just that, a MYTH. Now if you are painting with an explosive or flammable mixture then yes. Oh, I see your from Seattle...... that explains it.....;)
