Just as suggestion to reduce fumes at your burning out cycle - look up for the process to steam major part of your wax before put it into the kiln. Steam out wax will allow you to reuse wax (if you are interested in this aspect), but also help to keep your kiln cleaner, less deposits from the smog.

Hello Adriana (opps)! I am in Japan and helping my 22 yr old daughter to set up her own home shop.Once you are ok with it, I would like to correspond with you directly and I will show you how AMAZINGLY skilled she is. However, she is not skilled in the lost casting process. We will need to purchase most all of the equipment that you used in this video 🙄. Another note: on your large scale. "Normally" if you set you measuring tray on the scale before you power it on, then it will be "zero'd" & do not have to calculate your metal from your tray weight. Power: You can look at the power label on each piece of equipment (normally where the power cord connects to the equipment) and see what the watts or amps are. Then you can look in your breaker box and see what amp breaker that wall plug is using. Most likely a 10 amp (possibly a 15 amp). This will give you a good idea of what equipment you can run at the same time on that circuit (breaker). AGREE, Getting a large circuit installed is pricey. Electricians are expensive. Tall table: Trim/cut the table legs a few inches?😁 I think that's it...for now! Good luck & hope to hear from you soon!

Great video, so detailed and I'm envious of your casting tool setup! Get yourself a Blueair (or similar) air purifier. It has an app and tells you how bad the air is. I used it to clear the fumes from spray painting a radiator, it cleared the room in under 10 minutes from being maxed out on "polluted" when It started. Definitely recommend an air purifier, I have one for my laser engraver as well.

It is easy to work out the additional cost to your electricity bill - take the wattage of the equipment you use and multiply that by the time you have it on, and that gives you Watt/hours. Your electricity bill will tell you how much you are paying for electricity per kWh. In the case of your furnace, it is 850W. If you run it for two hours, you will use 1700 Wh of electricity. If you are paying 30c per kWh, then you used about 50c worth of electricity.

On the problem of the non-perforated flask: the air inside the design is in the way. You pour the liquid metal in, and the air has nowhere to go. That's the value of the vacuum and the perforated flask: it is sucking the air through the hot plaster to make room for the liquid metal.

Q1: Curious why you're not making the sprues and flow paths at the time of design and print all in one event? The sprues would be more precision and save time to make them in the design phase before printing. Q2: Can you buy your metals in nano powder form, fill your mold with the powder and then melt in the mold itself?

Been casting for a little while now and just recently started casting stones in place, which as you know needs to cool gradually and not quenched. The last couple of times I have removed the investment dry, not putting it in water first. Obviously, you need a mask while doing it this way, but I actually found it was a lot faster to clear the extra material out. Curious if you have tried it this way and what your result may be.
@jackgordon-manley26137 ай бұрын
Andriana, while casting equipment is expensive, do you believe its a good idea for new jewellers to buy this fairly early on? The time savings, control on quality and experimental ability seems like it would add great value to a startup jeweller.
@MiteraMade7 ай бұрын
Honestly, I would not recommend it just for the money investment it requires alone. If you already have the jewelry making tools you need to learn how to stone set, solder, polish etc., then why not, if you can afford it and you really want to learn! ❤ BUT, if you're like I was, literally starting from zero tools, I would wait until I had all of my basic tools and had some sales before investing that much.

Hi Adriana, I have one question. I am personally using a jewelery casting wax with melting point of 80° celsius (175f) and I am melting it in my default owen. Is there any benefit in using an electric kiln? There is no need for such high temperatures to melt wax from the mold. Or am I missing something? O.o Thanks
@MiteraMade2 ай бұрын
This is a great question and the answer is yes, you still need a kiln to properly melt away the wax and get the flask hot enough for casting. In those lower temps, the wax just melts, but in the high temperatures it vaporizes which is what you need to have a clean negative cavity to pour into. The kiln isn't just to melt away the wax, but the investment material needs to harden and reach full strength before molten metal is poured into it. The kiln’s heat not only burns out the wax but also cures the investment material, making it strong enough to withstand the high temperature and pressure of molten metal during casting. I hope that makes sense? ❤

Is there any way I can improve this?

Hmm, I use prestige as well but not the one for resin so I can’t speak on that too much, but it seems like your silver might be too hot when you cast. I have cast (i’m converting to F so I don’t confuse myself lol) at 1900F for silver before and it definitely caused porosity. I cast silver now at 1780F and the casts come out perfectly with no pitting 💜 As for my final furnace temperature, I cast once my flask has been at 1000F for at least 45 min to an hour 🙏🏻I hope that can help you 🙏🏻

🤔actually, unless it is something that has been soldered already, like, say, an old ring, it is fine to use recycled metal over and over and over until you get the cast right, as you're not changing the chemical composition of the material by adding silver solder. espeically if your using casting grain that is certified 99.999 silver. given silver solder is actually an alloy made from homemade easy solder (the only one I could find the chemical makeup for easily), it is 65% silver, 20% copper, and 15% Zinc. so you add a bit of copper and zinc to the silver when you use this... at least with modern solder, and that adds up over time to turn that 99.9% silver into something lesser. Basically, you add the casting grain to keep that 99.999% silver rating.

I would entertain doing this if it wasn't for all the chemicals/substances that are not only extremely harmful for people to be near but also probably affecting the environment to be releasing into the air. I get that it might save time, but it kinda seems like these substances should probably be illegal to use until theres is a safe way to neutralize the harmful aspects of them, especially if big companies are mass producing using the same stuff.

PepeTools is one of the largest jewelry tools and material sellers out there. I purchased and still purchase their tools with or without them sending me tools because I read reviews like a lot of people and make my best judgement on what to buy. Yes PepeTools sent me some tool to try out; tools that I specifically researched and asked for because I have been hoping to try them out for a while. Had they not been so kind to send them over themselves, these are items I would have purchased myself. I’m grateful they sent me tools I would have already purchased myself, it saves me money to grow my business or pay bills. I would never promote a product I didn’t truly love. Which they doubled down on as well and asked me to speak truthfully about the products, which is another reason I love PepeTools. The last point, is that no one should have to work for free. This KZbin channel takes time from my jewelry business (time that I thoroughly enjoy, but time) I need to be paid for my time in order to continue doing anything, so I can pay my bills and feed my family. So yes, you will see sponsors on my videos and those sponsors help keep me going. No one on the internet knows me, but I know me and my values and morals, and I know, I will never promote anything that I don’t like. I put a lot of work and care into my videos, so for someone to see that I got sponsored by a brand with a wonderful reputation, in my field of work, using products that also have great reviews and work well, I would hope that someone, even a stranger on the internet, would be happy for me. If that’s not you, and you’d like to unsubscribe, by all means. I only want people here that can see my heart and appreciate my time and efforts and care enough to not expect me to work for free.

Jerry…please don’t watch my videos for a “pretty face”. I put a lot of time and effort into my work to be diminished down to my looks…
