Keep in mind that, although the B16B is technically a ‘B16’, it is NOT a B16A. It is actually a destroked B18C5 rather than a souped up B16A. As such, it uses the taller B18C block and longer rods. This gives it a better rod ratio than the B16A (1.83:1 vs 1.74:1) for lower piston side loading and internal stresses at high RPM. Of course, the B16B was never a terribly popular engine for swapping due to the fact that it costs almost as much as a B18C5, which has greater power and torque.

Being someone who put a built B18 swap in my 91 Crx Hf back in 2004 and how deeply I loved that car as it had the best of everything , the B series Honda motors truly are one of the top 5 best engine families in a mass produced vehicle ever made PERIOD and btw the vtec Bseries motors came with dual valve springs to avoid having valve floating from occuring when at high Rpm's , also just a question and I very well may be wrong here on this one didnt the B16B have the exact same bore size as its big brother the B18c5 ITR engones ? I always was under the impression that they both used the exact same engine block , that being the block already being used in the 1.8L Integra Type R's , diffeerences for the b16b that i thought were only cams , pistons rods and crank shaft, so i always thought the B16b was the only b16 ever made that had a different bore size than the rest. I may very well be wrong though.. Got a suggestion for another fantastic nearly indestructible , easy and cheap to maintain engine family that built itself a true legacy of being indestructable and I think would make a good video is the inline 6cyl family of Jeep engines starting with the old AMC 3.6 or 3.7 engine , then next they built a 4.2L version that came in the Jeep CJ5's , CJ7, CJ8 and 87-90 Jeep Wrangler YJ, then in 1987 AMC created the latest and what would bevome the mpst well known and famously indestructable inline 6 which was the 4.0L inline 6, which they initially put in the 1987-1990 Jeep Cherokee and Commanchees , then it became even tougher and considerably more reliable when Chrysler bought out AMC Chrysler revised and updated rhe 4.0 creating the 1991 4.0 High Output which came in 91-2001 Jeep cherokees , 91-92 Jeep Commanchees , 91-2005 Jeep Wrangler TJ and the 93-2005 Grand Cherokees. Unfortunately the 4.0 inline 6 was no longer produced after 2005 supposedly according to Chrysler because they couldn't any longer modify it to conform to more and more increasingly strict nation emissions laws and restrictions on automobiles in the US , but that 4.0 straight 6 def is one of the top 5 most reliable and indestructible engines ever made period.

Thought I chime into what you said about the camshafts. All honda performance vtec engine's use 3 different cam profiles per camshaft known as the primary, secondary and middle lobes. The first two are the smaller lobes and are asymmetric meaning the primary is bigger and has an overall different profile then the secondary and that is to create a tornado like swirl in the combustion chamber for better fuel efficiency. And then the middle being the vtec lobe for higher rpm operation. So in total there are 6 different lobe profiles.

I'm a motorcycle lover but i love engines. I restored my dads 20 years old honda wave 100 which is a low CC's square engine but i upgraded the block to a 56mm bore and retained its stroke to 49.5mm. Upgraded its valves from 24mm intake and 19mm exhaust to a 28mm intake and 24mm exhaust. Same camshaft but with harder spring for high rpms and minimizing valve float. And it works great in low to mid rpm but lacking in high rpm but my dad loves it's performance. After i bought a 4 valve head with 6.5 camshaft lift and a 19mm in 17mm ex its performance boost matching those 150ccs 2valve engines with its peak but suffer in low rpms and its torque kick in at 6000rpms so i switch to the 2 big valve design for city and offroad performance.

The b series altogether is great. Combinations with transmission gears IMO are what make these cars great. If you’re looking to drag race, using a b16 transmission with longer 4th and 5th gears are masterful modifications. Because the b16 transmission gesrs are so short, this allows power to be gained quickly, and also toward the end when the power is already balanced, you have more ratio in your powerband. For road racing, a stock b16 will destroy in the mountains.

Still love this series, but I'm surprised you'd single out Honda fanatics over any other marque. My days involve dealing with fans of everything from classic American musclecars to Italian exotics and everything in between. And while there are plenty of Honda nuts out there, they tend to be on the younger side and just need a little more life experience to see the beauty in other engines/marques. They also tend to be trying to punch up in their advocacy rather than look down their noses like some enthusiasts (who are Honda guys going to look down on? Hyundai?). I won't say who I think are the most nutty (that would be bad for business), but I don't think Honda guys would be on top (maybe in the top 3...maybe).

@19:45 most b16a actually only have double springs on one side. B16b and b18c have double both sides

Interesting and helpful information, the b20 would be the perfect video for your channel

Interesting fact: The B16B actually use the taller B18 block and therefore have the best rod/stroke ratio of any B series, and can also handle more Revs and actually also has the highest redline/revlimiter. Fun closing fact: B17 1,7L with a different crank also exist.

One reason Honda blocks last so long is the top ring is barrel faced,so there is no ridge on the top of the bore just carbon and varnish.

The b16b is a 1.8 block with a different crank and longer rods for a better rod to stroke ratio

Anthony Tzortzoudakis no it’s a 1.6 hence the b16, b18 1.8 b20 2.0

block doesn't decide the cc. Bore and stroke do. Get a longer block from a bigger cc engine and put the shorter block crank in it, throw in some longer rods to make up the extra height and its the same CC as the shorter block only with longer rods (longer rods generally mean higher revs)
@lollol-xp4mc4 жыл бұрын
The b16 has shorter rods its a short stroke engine. Plus it isnt rod to stroke its bore to stroke. You dont get it
@anthonytzortzoudakis13134 жыл бұрын
The b16b is a p73 block with a 1.84 rod to stroke ratio. I’ve rebuilt b16a and a b16b . The b16a block is a pr3 with a shorter deck hight compared to the p73 . The b16b is a b18c with a bespoke crank with bigger counter weights and longer stroke and rods to achieve a 1.6 displacement. At the same time have the r/s ratio be stable for the n2 series the ek9 was Established for. Also slightly different cams . Learn before you claim folks .
@anthonytzortzoudakis13134 жыл бұрын
Chris Jones rod to stroke is the angle to which the rod is at tdc and btdc the less severe of angle the more stable aka less stress on the wrist pin . That is what a longer rod on a p73 block will do. That’s why a b20v isn’t the most reliable 🙂🧠

can you make iconic engine video about 2az fe and 2gr fe? They are maybe not too iconic because they are from economical camry engine but they are two of the best engine option for toyota race car like drifting and time attack..

I got a b16a2. When the engine is in operating temperature, the following thing happens if I shut off the car and crank it again (let's say when I park to wait for someone, like 5-10 minutes: 1) goes to 1500 on the crank 2) falls to 1000-1100 for 3 seconds or so after the car starts working 3) drop to 500 and a small tremble happens as if it's going to stall 4) goes up to 900 and sticks still, where it runs smooth as silk. What is this? The car is bone stock, runs and accelerates fine, engine is in pristine condition. What might it be? We have cleaned and checked everything. Thanks a lot in advance, liked and subbed!
