Van Time my son a mechanic (I’m a retired one) issue he has is most customers would be happy just changing the fuse and say stop, I tell him all the time he should start a KZbin channel just showing the cars that get towed into his shop with the owners just saying just get it running I’ll deal with the other issues later (they never do) he sends me photos daily, we are in a no inspection state, it scary what people drive. I love that you took the time to try and find out the true root of the problem instead of just playing "swaptronics!" I recently bought a 2021 Outlander Sport (2WD, SE model) and it is giving this same "airbag service required" warning after only two days of driving it. The dealership said the battery was low which can cause this error, so they charged it. Two more days went by of driving without any issues, but the airbag warning came on again. I read on some forums where the message showed up after the person's seat was moved all the way back. I have done this same thing since I'm a bit taller than my daughter. Another mechanic suggested the seat weight sensor can go bad, so I guess I'll be checking both the fuse and under the seat, lol! I find it pretty crappy that this same issue has been going on from 2007 all the way to 2021. They need to fix it since it's a safety issue.

I had a similar problem and found a blown fuse on a 5 series bmw . The car sales yard got a bit carried away with the carpet shampooing and filled the plugs under the seats with water blowing the seat occupancy fuse. Usually when that fuse goes its because someone has knelt on the seat breaking the sensor element in the seat base. Its funny what you remember. LOL

Usually used car dealers want things fixed as cheaply as possible, and the repair only has to last long enough for them to sell the car. For those reasons, I think you made the right call to ship it. If the fuse blows again, the dealer has the option to bring it back. But it wouldn't surprise me if they just kept replacing the fuse every time it blows until they sell the car

Had a similar issue with a 2016 Rav4 recently. ECU IG 3 7.5A intermittently blown. That particular fuse fed no less than 6 systems.. Obvious symptoms included electric power steering, ABS, HVAC control all innop. Power distribution diagrams only identified the systems, not the wires. Had to find the fuse in the diagram for each individual system to identify wires and connection points to start looking for the issue. To cut the story short, connector for the laser cruise/front park sensors sub harness, neither optioned on this truck, was left uncapped in the left front bumper area after some previous body work. Connector developed green death, just add water and, voila! Pop goes the fuse. Look forward to part 2...

The "extra taps....remote start" caught my attention. I would check the power draw through the circuit while turning peripherals on and off plus trying the remote start. Second is moisture/spill under seat and carpet. Would consider pulling up the carpet/sill and following line back to the fuse. Should be relatively short (pun) exercise. Distant third would be the 4wd switch.

Aaah, the world of electrical wiring in a car. What a conundrum, lol. You recently did the rear alignment on my '07 Galant. One problem I've encountered is my car battery being drained over time. It doesn't happen all that much, but did happen yesterday when I went to go for an appt.. It seemed to only happen in the really cold times. It was too cold to check anything out, but now it's warming up and I'm going to try and scan the fuses layout from the cover and just start probing wires and record all the results. Its a relatively new battery from NAPA, only 2 yrs old. When I bought the car, it had a new battery, but I had been working on the car one day, left doors open, and drained it down to nothing. So when I had trouble starting the car in the winter, I just bought the new battery. I checked the battery voltage when it didn't start in the winter it was a little over 11 volts. I did check after charging it while running and the voltage was 14.65 volts so I'm 'assuming the alternator is working ok. I do want to change out the starter, just because I have to pull the exhaust manifold just to get to it and check anything. I'm going OEM Mitsubishi because the guy doing the video I looked at was changing it for the 2nd time because he had bought it at advance auto. sure they warrantee them. But I'm hoping to do it only once. I usually go NAPA but all the one's they had said they 'may' fit. Such is life and thanks for sharing and I'll let you know what I find. Might even just have to call upon your assistance again. If I drive it every day seems all right.

Some fuses just blow open easier than the majority of all the rest of fuses. Watching a fuse while turning on a module with a large input capacitor for filtering, I noticed the fuse wire slightly moving when the module was turned on due to a lot of inrush current charging the capacitor. The fuse did not blow open as seen in other open fuses.Not having better test methods and lab equipment you are forced into a corner making decisions from what trouble shooting info you have done. Changing a fuse and going from there done many times in heavy machinery business. Time vs. money. Good call.

I was thinking water penetration through windshield
@Jimmeh_B5 жыл бұрын
@@dpeagles seriously, this weekend, do an experiment. Go to your local auto accessory shop, buy an inline fuse holder and a 10 amp fuse. Get yourself a glass of water, get two wires and connect them to your car battery, connect one of them to one end of the fuse holder, insert the fuse, dunk the two wires in the glass of water. No matter what you do with those two wires in the glass, that 10amp fuse will not blow unless you touch them together. Even if you saturate the water with salt to reduce to resistance of the water in the glass as much as is chemically possible, that fuse will not blow. The only thing that will happen is you will get hydrogen bubbles off one wire and oxygen bubbles off the other wire and a small amount of chlorine gas. You can verify that it's hydrogen by igniting the bubbles in the soapy water and they will make crackling noises, a big bubble will make a very distinctive popping noise. Also the water will turn a very unpleasant shade of brownish yellow from the metals eroding in the solution. Water can cause issues and make weird shit happen to signal level circuits. It can not however, induce a large enough fault current to blow a 10 amp fuse when the potential difference is only 12 volts. it is simply, not possible.

Good video. Regarding a guess. Seems on KZbin the diyers find the vacuum solinoids for the 4x4 fail. Or that the systems act up if the battery connections are poor. Of the items on fuse 17 I think it's likely the 4x4 and would start there. But that's with free time I'd spend trying to figure it out. In your case, ship it. :) Then maybe stay tuned for it to find its way back to auction. Just a hillbilly diagnostic method: If you suspect a scuffed wire that is almost shorting to ground, remove the fuse and unplug the far end. Use the little HV power supply from a neon tube and slowly bring its voltage up until you hear the wire arcing. Then use your eyes and nose to find the arc. A little bit of a pucker factor as it could possibly arc over to another wire and that could be bad.
@rimmersbryggeri5 жыл бұрын
Many of these things can just be related to low battery voltage. When I worked in the mitsu dealer charging the battery and erasing the codes would have been #1 then do a short test drive after that.the see which ones come back. Other than the fuse .

Hahahahahahahahahaha, first off nice to see you were up an hour before me. COFFEE......great to see a vid from ya. Not had good luck with Mitsubishi/Chrysler wiring in the 96 range. I did find though that starting at all the "hard" bends is where I found most the shorts and wire breaks. But that was with the Mitsu/Chrysler thingy. Good luck
