You make awesome metahuman tuts. Trust me we need you. I wish these metahumans just work out of the box with the ik skeletons. I guess you would only have to do it twice, one for playing as a game character n another for animations.

Little tip for getting the movement forward right without feet slipping - download the non fixed-in-place version from mixamo as well and you can duplicate the MH actor in sequencer and use that (match with this bone in previous clip to 'loop' cycle without position jumping back etc) and use this for an accurate position reference for the fixed version. That's my current solution anyway, keen to know if there are better accurate ways to do this..

Thank you, @jobutso. You leave no stone unturned. Very clear in your instruction. I'm not sure how anyone could figure out the mixamo > MH process without your good help. Huge appreciation. The only issue I'm finding is when importing more mixamo animations post-process - It's erroring due to the animation no longer finding ROOT track. Guessing the setup changed this. I have no idea how to solve this without importing all animations before you run the process...

Thanks for the video. This is great. Have they moved the skeletal mech component option? I'm looking for it when I put my Metahuman in the sequencer and can't find it anywhere. Did this get changed in 5.2?

On Metahumans "SkeletalMeshComponent0" is called "Body". Is that what you mean ?

Nice one as always and incredible on point with my project :) An additional suggest for a following tutorial maybe: I noticed that the metahuman groom is hard to controll when physics is activated. So far i tried a few things (Deactivated "Tick animation on skeletal mesh, used only spatial samples instead of temporal, tweaked the strains) .... but it's far away from renders you can find on youtube. I have no idea what i did so wrong. :/ Thanks in advance if you mabye have a hint!

I think Grooms may be broken in 5.0.1, I intend to build and try out 5.0.2/5.1 and see if things are any better.

Once they are retargeted to UE5 Manny, you can either tweak them in the Animation editor or bake to the control rig in sequencer.

@@Jobutsu Have you done a tutorial on editing an animation that has been baked to control rig in sequencer? I am finding the editing process very tedious, having to sift through throusands of keyframes and delete some and leave others. Isn't there some way to make one change, like adjusting the angle of the wrist, and have it work globally, on top of the other key frames, like a layer of animation that goes over another one? This is especially difficult with adjust an IK limb, since it seems that I have to delete all the affected FK keyframes for the change to take affect! I mean, at this point, it would be faster to export to another software and make the changes there.

I can retarget Mixamo to any custom Metahuman I create because I can always find the base skeletal mesh that the custom metahuman uses and as such the animation, after retargeting, becomes available in the list in sequencer. What I have trouble with is that when I use a CitySampleCrowd metahuman, like the one you are using in this video, I can't after retargeting and exporting, get the anims to show up in the animation sequences list for the City Sample Crowd character. I am wondering, which exact skeletal mesh did you choose as the IKRig base for the Target City Sample Crowd character? If I don't get this right, retargeting wont matter because the animation clips will not attach if it isn't the matching skeletal mesh that the Mixamo is retargeted to. Thanks though, as the rest of the info works for my Custom Metahuman characters. Just not the City Sample Characters like the one you use here.

I noticed since we deleted the control rig there is no way to edit the animation at all is there a way to work around this? For example I'm using a "typing animation" from mixamo and the hand cuts into the keyboard of my scene is there a way to edit the character's poses after deleting the control rig in sequencer?

I would make minor adjustments to the animation in the animation editor.

Use external video editing software. You can render a video from the movie render queue instead of EXR

It has to be a bug. I am going to try a Github build (5.0.2) later to see if it is still happening.

I notice anytime I want to save the animation or retarget it directly after the whole IK rig setting, ue5 keeps crashing

I think it is a bug. Just report the crash when the dialog pops up.

Hi, I'm relatively new to using metahumans with Mixamo but this tutorial seemed exactly what I need, and the first 6-7 minutes are very clear and concise and very understandable, so I thought with the quality of the tutorial up to this point, that i would have a much better understanding of this tutorial in a relatively short amount of time...But around 7:34 in the tutorial you state that you need these animations to be retargeted to a metahuman first, and point out that you have previously released a tutorial on this, now this my seem like a really silly question... but do you now need to now stop following this tutorial at this point and start on the 'Mixamo to Unreal Engine 5 with Full Body IK' and then come back to this video and carry on with this one, to gain a complete grasp of the whole subject. So carrying on following just this video will be of no help without that other knowledge. I understand you can't keep on repeating things, I just wanted to clarify a point. Thank you

It is assumed that the people watching the tutorial already know how to setup IKRigs and retarget animations. That can be from my tutorials or elsewhere. My latest tutorials have not been the clearest because of tiredness caused by lengthy illness. But I am slowly getting back to 100% and taking notes from viewers like yourself and will improve things moving forward.
