Thank you very much David! It was great to have all this insights. This was a quarantine production done a couple of months ago. The drums were Modo Drums from Ikmultimedia programmed by me. The amp are from Amplitube and the vocals were recorded with an inexpensive SM58 copy. It was pretty challenging but I'm happy to hear all the things that could have been improved with more automation. The major struggle is to have the confidence of doing more and not ruin the mix. Grazie mille di tutto!

Keep'em coming David! What I love about your mix critiques is that they're not only straight on point, but they're also brutally honest without bashing too much. You get down to the details and always keep the larger picture in view. Looking forward to the next ones. Cheers!

He will try man...it is time consuming and he is a very busy man,very sought after.So expect for the series to not always be consistent in terms of release which I would expect for obvious reasons.I think maybe once every one or two weeks will make sense.

SOOOoooo Very interesting !! That serie is A way to see more clearly how you think about the mix , David . . . On the other series you showed how to mix...... There you show why ! ( and what it could become ) The why of the choice of mixing, it interests me more at my level.

i LOVE this idea, I teach rudimentary music production at a highschool and I have my students do the mixes in all the major mix competitions happening around the world. I try to fix their mixes in the same way as this and provide advice. Thanks for teaching me so that I can teach it to my kids.

@@mixbustv Not trying to be smart, I've been working on this project for some time now... trying to emulate a stage performance on a Jimmy Hendrix rec guitar.. I've been listening to these woodstock festivals, am trying to get somewhat identical to that raw Woodstock Vibe sound. Yup sounds crazy.. that sound its somehow lost today. Hi David! Great content and thank you for taking out your time to create this series 🙏🏾 I have a very dumb question from a beginner...when creating a mix bus do EQ and pan each track individually before creating a mix bus or do you do it within the mix bus? I'm confused as fuqk 😰
@mixbustv
@mixbustv 3 жыл бұрын
I'm confused about your question 😄. The mix bus is simply your master fader, your sum, where all the track end up in. So, you eq and do all you have to do on the single tracks.

David, can we get a good chair recommendation for doing this stuff for long hours so we dont ruin our back posture? Great stuff as slways
@mixbustv
@mixbustv 3 жыл бұрын
Many like the Crown chairs, I personally really dislike em, but mesh chairs are overall the best choice unless you wanna go for some new wave kind like a ball chair or something. My back is thick and no matter what chair I have to get up and stretch often. All I can say is the only way to offset long sitting sessions is to get up and go to the gym, seriously.

Depending on the tier with membership you get email mix consultations + all the exclusive videos and future videos. The PMA courses you get the PT sessions with the raw files.

@@mixbustv I was thinking of the first tier membership (not supporter) It seems to me that there's access to all the courses in that, just not consultation, right? So isn't that all + more then what you get from buying a specific course?

I can't help thinking that you're trying to smooth out his voice a bit too much. He has a kind of 80s Cars/David Bowie growl which is the most interesting thing about the sound of this song. I feel like that area around 220 is where his growl is. There's some of it down where you're boosting around 180, but to me, it sounds like it's centered a little higher.

I think I'm beginning to understand what you mean by lack of vocal production. A song should already be interesting from get go even when it isn't mixed. Delays and Reverbs and Special Effects are all suppose to be ear candy to enhance whats already therefore but when you use effects to save a song as opposed to using it to enhance a song, it kinda defeats the general purpose of what effects are for to begin with.
@mixbustv

For sure, also they go hand in hand, your chain is as strong as your weakest link, so it's also very possible to ruin a great track by giving it to a not so good engineer to mix
