I have no direct Analog mixing experience, but I do have decades of working with Analog band gear, so I feel I have some understanding of the difference and how they relate to digital facsimiles, so here is my list through a gear head , analog loving guitarists/bassists eyes who has some digital mixing experience. In no special order *Audio Assault Headcrusher FREE Forget the paid one, the free one is better and is more analog sound IMO, and despite the paid version 1 and 2 having multiple modes, they cant do what the free one does, I use head crusher Free on drums Bus...EVERY time *Tone Empire Reelightpro Great analog Tape IR capture emulation *Brainwrx HG Black Box This is the best Tube saturator I have come across, especially for Guitars, and Vox *Klanghelm SDDR Every mode is useable, great on a master Bus *TRacks Tapemachines (all of them) I use one of these on every Master Bus, love how it rounds the top end and the controls can really let you dial in perfectly,,feels very analog to me, again all of them *Klevgrand FreeAMP I use this on bass always, I love the way it makes the bass sit in a mix, some how seems more about the support of the rest of the music and less a separated yet clearer after using this on bass, it seems to glue it to the rest of the music beautifully, I think its partly due to its bass response, that seems to fatten and tuck at the same time, am guessing it might be slightly "pultecing", just a guess though *Brain Wrx SSL and Focusrite Channel strips Love these strips, love each of their characters and the eq's and how the preamps respond, the SSL's are quite forgiving and the Focusrite is ultra clear *Purple Audio MC77 Love this 76 emulation, easily my favourite of the ones I have, love it on Snares *Klanghelm MJUC and MJUCjr I always have one of these running after my Mix bus comp, needle not even moving, purely used like a saturator, love these plugins *Analog Obsession BUSTER SE despite the inaccurate metering, the sound of this plugin is top class, every Mix bus I use this (or the TRack SSL style mix bus comp) and lastly a special mention *NAM profile player Open source AI trained capturing , that can surpass ToneX, Neural DSP and Kemper, and its free, and there are more hardware options launching every day . Thanks to this program I have access to thousands of captures for hundred's of amps and pedals, and to my feel and ears its the closest thing yet to the real deal I have tried. Another wonderful bonus, is I have managed to get a capture of my main amps (JCM800, 5150 block and a Jet City JCA50) and the cab I use (90's vs100 compact 4x12) I have an IR for so I can essentially use MY set up in my room and record with it , without having to ever use a Mic and turn up a high wattage Tube amp in my narrow UK terraced house. Honestly this thing is incredible

i'm so happy to see the love for analog sound growing back nowadays when we've got so many digital options. there was period from the beginning of the 2000s going to the the middle of the 2010s when i couldn't listen to mainstream radio mixes. the sound was so crappy, so flat, grainy and lifeless. sharp in transients, but not punchy, it was just weird. i missed a good, round, luscious, deep sound. funny thing about analog gear is that it makes everything sound more the way we would naturally hear instruments uncaptured by mics. if you can imagine such a thing.

It would be interesting to do a video to explore what makes a plugin sound or feel like analog. Ive seen many reviews where the person says a plugin sounds like analog, but its hard to understand what that means. Is it the extra saturation? The lack of aliasing? Transients? Why do people say analog is more 3d? It would be cool to explore this topic in greater detail.
