When did Apple ever have a good price for anything???

Plenty of times. The M1 MacBook Air is the best value sub-$1K laptop in its class. iOS devices also tend to hold their value very well on the used market due to better longevity and software support on average,

Really hated the fresnel lenses of the Q2. Always felt like everything other than the pinpoint area in the center was blurry. Could barely read the text, and couldn't get the right distance between the lenses to feel comfortable. Ended up returning mine after a few weeks because I hated the experience of wearing it lol. This video made me consider the Q3 but I'm still wary of Meta VR products overall after my Q2 experience. Might get one if it goes on a very good sale in the future. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for your perceptive review & observations. Got my Q3 last week. The ‘mixed reality’ is a game changer as you note. As an original 1984 Mac SE developer (Canada) we had to buy a $10K Lisa computer to develop apps. Fast forward to the $3.5K VP. As you also know Apple has set up world wide developer labs around VP development. No doubt the VP will morph into a typical premium priced Apple device ‘family’! Aka iPhone redux. Hopefully Meta will provide healthy competition. And Hopefully my Musk neural AI implants will solve the energy/weight problem😊.

Diagree on the external battery for Apple Vision Pro. You pretty much called it silly. I dont get why when you yourself explained why its superior. You use your Meta Quest 2 device for extended periods of time. So I assume its mostly plugged in. Now think wouldn’t it be more comfortable on the neck and nose if you could just take the battery from the Quest 2 and place it on the table given that you’re not using standalone anyways? Especially if the battery is the heaviest component this option is a life saver. Obviously the wish is for a super slim battery not thicker than a sheet of paper on your head is there but for now I think that was the smartest move. And almost all form of clothing has a pouch, e.g. jeans, sweatpants, jackets and even skirts. I hope they add a clip on the battery itself for outfits without a pouch. I hope this short text brought some perspective. Also thanks for the video, great job! Edit: Also we differ on EyeSight. Like headphones we don’t always want to take off our devices just because someone has approached us or is talking to us. But would be interested to see what your final perspective is when you review it.

They should move the processor and battery to an external 'power bank' like device and just push power and display out through usb-c. I personally think Apple made the right choice in using external power - although they made it bulky and heavy due to the materials that they used. One step forward, two steps back.

Yep! That was my thinking as well, as a main device the price seems a lot more reasonable. Still totally absurd for me, though! After watching your Shapelab video, and looking into Substance Modeler and Gravity Sketch, I think a Quest 3 for product design ideation may be worthwhile.

I enjoyed the video and get what you're saying about how Apple is aiming for this to essentially be a wearable laptop. I still have concerns with that, though. For starters, I think it's unlikely to ever sell like they want because most people don't spend anywhere near 3,500 dollars for a laptop. I understand that, ideally, we'd get to experience computers in a whole new way and that prices do go up when a technology is miniaturized. For example, laptops are generally more expensive than desktop computers with equivalent processing power. Even with that considered, I just dont think the market is there for this yet. My girlfriend, her parents, my parents, and many others I know think that 1000 dollars is too expensive for a computer. Im personally willing to spend more because I do a lot of gaming, music, movies, not to mention all of my writing on my computer. Still, it's possible to get a decent gaming laptop for under 2000 dollars. Anything higher than that becomes too much for me, and im known as quite the computer enthusiast in my circle. Im not saying that this will appeal to nobody but many people who have the money to spend more than me will still opt for a desktop or laptop because as powerful as this headset is, its not going to match the proccessing power of a 3,500 dollar desktop computer. I guess what im trying to say is that this would narrow the market down even further. It wont appeal to casua Apart from the pricing, personally I also worry about software compatibility with this. That concern comes largely from how Apple as a company is known to restrict 3rd party app support. Id personally never feel confident in buying this as a gaming laptop for sure unless I saw that they were branching out. Thats more of a personal preference though, ive always preferred PCs to Macs and Androids to Iphones from a software compatibility standpoint alone. Im definitely a VR enthusiast, I was interested in VR tech as a kid back in the 90s when Nintendo was pitching the Virtual Boy lol. Today I use the Quest 2 almost daily and am about to get the Quest 3. I wont stay agsinst any Apple headset that releases in the future if they can convince me but right now Quest headsets are striking that balance between affordability and functionality and apple will have a lot of catching up to do on the software end of things to compete.

I'd much rather have a spatial computing device that I can game with than a XR device that I can use for productivity. The big screen beyond are just putting together off the shelf readily made tech, they can't compete on those features with big companies that actually spend billions of dollars in R&D to come up with solutions.
