Thank you for your "how to paint like a god" video. Part of me was like "why doesn't he just rewatch his own videos to get back into painting?" But of course for you, it wouldn't be pushing your skills.

@@Moonguy13 I wouldn't apologize in this case. It really does fit the whole atmosphere of the game. Given how surreal and... pardon me... conceptual.... everything is, I could actually see a sort of Stanley Parable "the end is never the end is never the end..."-esque tagline for the game. Something like "The concept of the concept of the concept..." just stretching on forever.

i have no clue why but when u said the thing about the feild going in the hole like nothing was happening gave me chills imagine falling down a hole with grass brushing against you as u fall thats horrifying idk why also side question would the hole in the middle be like a part of the big hole under the platform (so like a hole that goes straight through the floating island) or more like a hole in the hole (so like the arm comes out of the island instead of the hole from under it if that makes sense lol) also also love the thick fog overcast type idea
@dcbandit

The concept art feels like an old adventure game with a fixed camera and these are the two screens, you click on the platform, and your character slowly walks up there, then switches screens when your character arrives, then gets attacked by the arm as he tank turns to run away.

27:28 i think it would be cooler if it wasn't "impossible" to fight it but just so unbelievably hard that it would take like 20 minutes to kill with perfect movement but i do see how you wouldn't want it to die as it kind of wouldn't make sense lore-wise...? of course nothing's set in stone but i do like the idea of a boss being so incredibly hard that it's basically impossible to beat when the game releases. and if you had such an hard boss i'm sure some crazy people would try it on stream or in videos as a challenge!

I think my favorite example of this is dishonored 1, the game has a very distinct painterly style without overdoing it, and it feels in place with the art outside of the game, and it's unfortunate how much it was toned down for the sequel, as much as I like the game.

holy shit i can just imagine the wide palm lunging at you from the hole and as youre recovering from the shock you take a step back and just see the arm unfolding itself above you like a spring, and the thought of accidentally falling down the surrounding chasm is absolutely shitfuck horrifying, the fact that grass just normally grows as the terrain rotates inward and downward into nothingness definitely reminds me of some fucked up fever dream id have as a kid, like a dark cave world with no sky but the ground is always as light as if there is some cosmically large being shining a flashlight trough the floor or a forest but the trees are all lined perfectly with eachother like on a grid idk its just terrifying

I think it would be extra weird if it was both hands in one. like it had the fingers of the central portion of the hand, maybe too many, with essentially one index finger and a set of middle, ring and pinky fingers on either side of it, then two full thumbs on either side of the center hand. It'd almost be like a cobra's hood.

For references check the wheat field from Gladiator, also the Duat (land of the dead in ancient Egypt). Have the clouds make shapes like Doom 2 skull wall. The door can be like a flattened TARDIS opens from one way closed from the other. Maybe remove the hole and have Daddy long arms attack the player from off screen while they're approaching the door.

I am a severely disabled artist from Germany. Two half paralyzed hands, tremors, chronic pain and most severe the damn fatigue, all due to my Multiple Sclerosis. Ai Art-Tools are a godsend for me. It allows me to stay creative, to express myself, channel my creative juices. I can understand the outcry of some artists about AI, but it is another tool, a helper, a system like photoshop and stock footage, combined with an automation that saves time and helps, when nothing else works. It is one of the best advantages for artists since the advent of digital art and I just hope that these lawsuits, the gatekeeping and stark actions on social media and on artstation someday will finally find an end and we can all make art with all the tools that we have for our disposal.

Awesome. I'm pretty sure no one would hate AI as a tool, if it was only used to actually visualize unique ideas, instead of stealing others' ideas. The way you use it, and the approach I described in this video, I think, are good examples of using the tool to improve and speed up the process of working on personal unique ideas. But I think AI has a long way to go in terms of a lot more precise input. Right now, describing a whole illustration with a short sentence and getting a result, the user really has very little to do with the picture, which is just theft - or legal purchase, if licensed properly. In any case, I feel like improving input to be more interactive and complex, incorporating text, selection, brushwork etc. all together, would turn AI into a real creative instrument, one day

You think stealing art and taking jobs away from people is a good thing, just cos it benefits you? This "gatekeeping" will not end, we will fight against theft and big corp exploitation to the end.

@@ivanmatveyev13new inventions alwayes come with more exploitation, losing jobs, and so on. Some of this changes wheather historical or not after a while become "beneficial" (to the eyes of the majority)...imo its the transition that hurts the most. Afterwards not so much... This is the art industry.wheather we like it or not, its heavily tied to intertainment.if not moraly reprehensible, people will most likely choose the easier option for the most part (prefering outcome to the prosess)... And i know this sounds really controvercial but to me its for the better. More people will abandon the entertainment industery and it becomes less corportized in the future meaning people and corporations move to other industeries. And i dont want to somehow diminish the value of entertainment, but seeing what entertainment holdes for people today to the point of this era being mostly known for it, makes think that if a part of it filles with ai, the influence becomes less intense. Im not deadset on this view in particular...but what gribes me is that we often (myself included) throw a hissy fit and call eachother lables mostly for us to ever listen.that isnt very becoming of us is it?

@@ivanmatveyev13 This is neither stealing nor taking away jobs. It benefits the industry. Content Aware Fill in Photoshop (we use it for ages) is an AI generative tool. Those AI-Art Generators don't steal neither. If you still think that, educate yourself in the technology. But our beloved community always was this way, with every new invention, every new tool. Sadly the underinformed, undereducated people are the loudest with their brainfarts.

@@BoroCG I totally agree. With my local stable diffusion installation I can manage to close in more easily to the desired results and all over all have more control. What I would find important would be more public education in the matter. What does machine learning really mean? Is there a database of copyrighted images in the background (no) or does it rather work like an artist, who also is gettings its abilities to make pictures from the millions of images seen in life, studied in classes or museums - or in social media. This technoloigy will completely re-arrange our industry (well mine at least - used to be an Art Director in Advertising until it didn't work anymore) and probably kill jobs, but in the same time, it offers new jobs, new positions and liberates creative output. And the last thing is just wonderful in my opinion! By the way: You do an amazing work here and I totally enjoy watching your progress with your game.

Why not screw with the "physics" of this scene? Turn expectations on their head. Maybe, try "fore-LENGTHENING", as opposed to "foreshortening". Or everywhere "John" steps the grass/ grain suddenly starts growing out of control, instead of being crushed under his feet, (this in itself could be used in gameplay to avoid being found as quickly by your antagonist), etc. And, this could be made intermitant, by "waves of Infinity", emmanating from the portal, (kind of like waves of "radiation" leaking out, screwing with the perception of reality). It's a thought...

I really like ai art generators. People complain but most of what I do is cars, motorcycles and characters. I make lots of sketches and 3d models, and since last year I can now train an AI on my art so it can generate images of my designs that are more presentable and more consistent that I can do on my own. I don't see what's wrong with that. You'll never be able to generate my designs by text alone. I still tweak the images I generate, their not perfect but for sure the end result is faster and better so I don't care when people complain.

No offence but this is honestly just a bad example of concept art and thumbnailing. You drew one thing (which I think you already had in your head) and a few very simple variations, then took that as your final. The whole point of doing these is supposed to be to get new ideas and test and prod at things, even if you end up using the first thing you thought of.

Yeah I agree, thumbnails are used for going through multiple versions. But I don't care, I liked what I've got in my first version after a few substantial changes, so I went with that. It is the thumbnail format that allowed me to evaluate the composition and easily introduce big changes to my single starting point, and I like using it this way
