It's quite amusing that this is basically a Wii solution for locomotion in VR. Early enthusiasts of this wave of VR with the Oculus Kits were using a Wii Balance Board for locomotion and it worked quite well, main problem being the height of the balance board. So it's funny to see that it took all these years for someone to revisit this type of solution when it was already implemented so long ago.

***WARNING*** DO NOT DROP YOUR KAT VR LOCO SENSORS. I dropped mine from waist height onto a bare concrete floor. The sensor light went out and never functioned again. Support will replace the sensor, however, if you can avoid this, please do. This happened twice, I reported the first one to Kat VR support. It happened again, and I decided to just live with the second one. I recommend that you play on carpet, or something. The Kat VR Loco Sensor should have a rubberized cover.

If you want to improve your experience with Kat Loco - 1) configure in game moving, where HMD looking (not controller) 2) choose direction source HMD-Body in Kat gateway 3) Activate "Independent head and body orientation" in Kat gateway. (you may need use global configuration mode in kat gateway, not turbo, for this with some games) With this, you'll have possibility to move yor head freely, look anywhere and move in the same time, in the direction of body sensor (which is looking in the same direction as your body) - all like in real life. And, of course, act with your hands absolutely freely.

This product is amazing. I own 4 of these. My wife says it reduces her motion sickness. There is no point in having the 1-2 thousand dollar omni treadmills. This blows it out of the water. I laugh at all the dummies falling for the omni one. You don't have to get strapped into a massive treadmill. The base on the treadmill will wear out in a few months. You will have to replace it and have different size shoes for your friends to play on the treadmill. The sound of that bar going around when you move is awful. It takes up a lot of space. Really great review of the product and the carpet. I recommend the carpet also. It gives me a point of reference where I'm at and to stay. My wife can play in the same room and we just stay on our carpets. Gameplay using these is great, you can auto run backwards or forwards and concentrate on reloading. This will improve your gameplay when you get use to it and are able to look/aim all around you while moving with your feet.

I have these and its predecessor , the Kat loco ( without S ) , both of them are awesome, i just can't play in a game without them. Actually , the software allows only one mode for strafing, the previous version allowed two , ( A and B ) , "B" is the one showed here , the other allow you to strafe putting a feet aside , just like the "cruise" mode , it is far more immersive imho. Told that to the Kat VR stafff, they said they will look into it , but it is weird that a better hardware will have a lesser software functionality; if you connect the previous kat loco, the "A" mode returns in the interface, i guess itis a software limitation ( why ? i don't know ). But the best immersive is the WoVR, itis the only one where you can strafe while you are walking forward or backwards, but the con is that it is more "clunky" to wear , because it have cables. BUT it works VERY WELL with Skyrim ! So it depends on what game you are playing, or if you want something fast to wear ( 20 sec ) , or not . The future of VR will becomes when an hmd will be sold with FBT and haptic gloves instead of controlers. Moving with a stick, is not really immersive in comparison, and it is tiring , just because you stay put, and this strain your back, moving your legs is more healthy.

I try the Vive trackers, it sucks. It doesn't track correctly. I am using it with Natural Locomotion software. When you stop, sometimes it doesn't stop immediately and still moving and if it keep doing that, you're going to feel dizzy. I am like forget this shit, I am returning it. These trackers are good for something like VRchat where you feel your avatar in your presence or holding a gun or something but as for helping you track your legs movement? Nah....not accurate. NaLo is better off with hand movement, not feet.

I own these. They work well but there is a catch no one tells you about. After using a while you'll put them on your shelf and that's it. In games distances are large and out of simple laziness you will prefer walking with controller. The only game I'm using it for is Gorn. However for the price you won't find anything better so if you want to try in-place locomotion then go for it

@duked19 3 жыл бұрын
@@mixedrealityTV OK, good to know. Arm swinging was one of the first types of locomotion I tried when I got into VR, never liked it though. Maybe I should try it again, now that I have reasonable VR-legs. I've also tried walking in place while holding the thumbstick forward in smooth locomotion games, to simulate what Kat is doing, and to see if the game became more immersive. That wasn"t for me, though, but maybe the real thing (Kat Loco S) works better than what I simulated. I wish all smooth locomotion games simulated that you (in VR) were standing on a hover board, or an electric skateboard. That would make the motion in game correspond better (as smooth locomotion games feel like you are floating/sliding forward).

To be honest I'll start taking treadmill solutions seriously when developers get their act together and agree a standardized VR controls, its hard enough to get them to have free locomotion and smooth turning let alone anything else especially a whole new input system. A problem I struggle with is when you get used to a certain game like Pavlov for example and get used to a fluid interactable firarms with a brilliant feeling 'virtual stock' then go to a game that feels different like Half-Life Alyx that doesn't let you run, you fall like a leaf, can't holster, drop or pick up weapons, use a knife etc etc . . . it really takes me out of the game . . . . . . every time I play HL:A I always wish it felt like Pavlov, I wish I could use Pavlov as my personal avatar profile or something.
@FoxFloof
@FoxFloof 2 жыл бұрын
Ok but of a late response but it's not supposed to be like Pavlov, they are 2 entirely different games with different styles of gameplay and "tasks" HL:A shouldn't be like Pavlov because it's not made to have the same physics as Pavlov. If games are like one another then it's just would be boring constantly.
