That’s what I did! 😂 I scraped as much as I could back into their container and I used every last bit that was dried on the lids using a wet paint brush to reactivate the paint. I did not want to waste it! 😆

I have a set of 36 gelli gouache colors from Magicfly. I really haven't used them since I purchased them about a year ago. That grieves me because they are so colorful and appealing and think I could make some nice art with them, but I've been so focused on using and learning watercolor. Like a lot of art supplies, they look like candy or sweets and I'm pretty sure that's part of the appeal. Gelli gouache, particularly the pastel colors, makes me think of some sort of luscious creamy fruit or macaron flavored pudding concoction. Yum! But really, mine have begun to dry some, and some have developed cracks, but I have opened the container up and sprayed them well a couple of times. And they're not quite as alluring when they're dry, are they? And the info on my container said they should be used within 6 months! Oh really? That would be a lot of gouache for me to use up. I think they just mean they should be used within 6 months in order to use them at their most optimum? I don't know. The instruction pamphlet suggests that besides water, you can place a few drops of glycerin to remoisten as well as water. I may try that if the water alone doesn't remoisten them properly. I'm just gonna pull mine out and do "something" with them very soon. Thanks! Helpful video as usual.

Yeah, maybe 6 months at best. But 2 years at most is said to be the lifespan of gouache.

The miya set is definitely great value, I don't think they handle as well as professional brands but that's expected for the price and they are not bad at all. You could even supplement them with a professional set or just a professional brand white

Could you recomend a good brand that has good lightfast ? Thank you 😊
@valasafantastic1055
@valasafantastic1055 2 жыл бұрын
I love them they are my favourite! Some of the pigment info is out there if you look and some are more lightfast. Regardless its best when not selling the original or selling it at a discount with clear lightfastness warnings. my advise to everyone 1) scrape the foil and thoroughly mix each tub for proper binder ratio, and consistency. They are not at their best partially separated and unmixed. Clean off a knitting needle and save excess paint by wiping the palet knife /needle onto it to remove mostly paint before rinsing 2) consider mixing in some isopropyl alcohol this prevents mold (but may effect lightfastness I'm not sure) 3) can use a pallet knife to remove paint and carefully use on a separate pallet and/or empty half/full pans (for sale bulk on amazon) Please don't contaminate the original tubs you can't fix that without buying a whole new set 4) stalk deals and immediately buy it when the price dips to a great buy. Always get free shipping (and watch for fees) buy from 4-5 star sellers only. 5) I actually think they are among the best and some florescent colours are very helpful even if fugitive to get the brightest colours and match tropical fish, flowers etc. 6) you can premix custom colours in empty half/full pans! here are a few examples I'll share here (using 24, 56, and 50 sets) Note white is in ALL sets so I won't list it's set Medium yellow (24/56/50) to peach blossoms-more( 56/50)for Neon Red Mix Burnt umber (24/56/50), Coffee (50), olive brown (50) with a touch of white for MUD colour Mix Medium yellow (24/56/50), orange (24/56), Earth yellow (24/56/50) and ochre (24/56/50) For a beautiful golden tone I call "Golden joy" Mix Acid Blue (24/56/50) With Ultramarine (24/56/50) For a Neutral or Yinmin dupe mix Mix Ponceau/vermiel (its the same colour! 24/56/50), with orange (24/56), Peach blossom (56/50) and White for a neon coral Take neon coral above and add some Arts Blue (56) To get a beautiful vibrant pink grey I adore. Also note Oriental Red (56/50) is a very neutral red (in my opinion) and Primros (56/50) is a very neutral yellow (in my opinion) Consider neutral primary triad use! 7) Can get steel tins and sticky back magnets at the dollar store and use with those empty pans to make your own custom pallets. 8) consider making swatch books, cards (etc) and taking written notes of custom mixes to recreate at a later date more easily. I regret it for colours I did not write the 'recepies' down for! You can make circles or rectangle gradients. and have samples on cards right to the edge so you can hold it up to the real object or reference to get correct colour matches. Its work keeping it in clear books and redoing the notes from sketchbooks (or cutting and pasting) 9) Don't look down on these paints honesty they are almost as good as holbein (I have the hobein) BUT Holbein are 33 times the price where I live! They are NOT 33 times better at most they are three times as good, I'd say only 1.5! 10) Consider the cost per amount and buy a whole new big set even if you just need the white then the other paints are a bonus. Pull out a calculator and write notes do the math! Sometimes use 'white substitute to conserve white such as using yellow teeth for a yellowish mix or yellow if you want to keep warm colours more vibrant vs pastel. Naples yellow is also amazing in mixes as this. The 50 set has Pearl white, powder blue as well which can sub for white in some cases and may work better. Powder blue is a great substitute for white in a blue tinted mix. Pearl white for grey, etc. Some colours are only in the 56 or 50 I advise you get both! Its really worth it it you love tons of colours like me! 11) You can paint more and larger with so much paint. Use big paper like bristol boards ans make wall decorations such as life size animals or mythical creatures like Pokemon (obviously only small ones) also a fun project with kids! 12) have fun!

I recommend using distilled water to avoid mold (mold happens with watercolors or jelly gouache because of water quality, air humidity, etc).
