Katie Holmes filled her schedule and acting engagements to such a degree that she had made herself unavailable for this brilliant Dark Knight movie - Christopher Nolan was deeply frustrated and upset at requiring to recast such a vital character as Rachel, knowing it would throw the fans off, however it was Katie's fault and her own ambitions got in her own way of partaking in one of the most iconic Batman movies ever made. Ultimately, Gyllenhaal's performance as a "Rachel replacement" is simply great, and I enjoyed her character portrayal even more so, to be quite honest.

@jaemyrick52772 жыл бұрын
Katie's performance in Batman Begins was good. My problem with it was her direction. Her character was flat, I don't think Christopher Nolan the director gave Rachael a whole lot to work with. I would have like to see her questioning witnesses in court. Maybe Rachel and Bruce could have had dinner @ some elegant restaurant and gone dancing as friends, but it turned romantic. But it remained platonic because Bruce dated other women, and maybe one woman, he wouldn't be ready for, because Bruce Wayne was a notorious bachelor, and he dated beautiful high class women.

The rig Batman used to get Lau out of the building was a real thing. It was called "Skyhook" and was developed by the CIA (though there is at least one other similar system) in the Vietnam War era. It was intended to allow people or packages to picked up without the aircraft having to land. It works because at the right speed, the rope will stretch enough that the people or cargo won't be (likely) be injured or killed in the process, but it is still a wild ride.
@alanicolas25102 жыл бұрын
The scene where the joker tortures the policeman dressed as batman was improvised by said actor, the director gave him the camera and did not tell him how he should act. Then, another scene that was also improvised was that of the explosions at the central hospital. They actually stopped for a few seconds but the actor continued to act as if his control had failed until the explosions returned and that is how the scene was recorded. Finally, in the interrogation scene, when batman throws the joker on the table and goes to the door with the chair, Heath Ledger was so into character that the phrase "look at you go" escaped him and the director He liked it so much that he decided to leave it.

That was a fantastic breakdown and analysis after the movie, Marion. You really succinctly understood the main characters’ motivations. Yes, Harvey failed his test from the Joker. But Bruce always overcame Joker’s temptation to kill. “You thought we could be decent men in an indecent time!” vs. “Why do we fall Bruce? It’s so we can learn to pick ourselves up.” Also, you very much understood how much loss Bruce overcame. Harvey: “Then why was it me who was the only one who lost everything?” Bruce: “…It wasn’t.” It was great watching your guys’ reaction and an even greater pleasure seeing y’all digest the film so throughly. No, Batman meant to go for Rachel. He even said so when Gordon asks who he's going after. The fact he loses control and gets ultra aggressive when Joker lets him know Rachel may die as well and smashes the Joker's face in the glass is why the Joker has a slither of glass to use to take the cop hostage when he is requesting his phone call. The plot and storyline have their flaws but the Heath Ledger/Christopher Nolan collaboration that gave us this Joker is absolutely inspired. If there was ever a movie we all knew that Marian would LOVE, it is this one! The Joker makes this movie even better. There are a lot of people who think he is the "best" villain in the history of cinema (best as in greatest performance). It is definitely up there. This was by far my best Batman movie and the best "Batman' performance (Christian Bale) as well. I'm not a die hard Batman fan or anything like that, I just love cinema and acting that makes you forget you are watching a movie and makes you feel like you are in the story. Books are great at doing this (and easily the best way to feel like you are personally part of it), but there have been a lot of movies that can do this as well. My top 5 villain/crook/crazy performances are: 1. Anthony Hopkins-Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. Who's 16 mins of screen time are by far the most memorable and impactful in the history of cinema (of the thousands of movies I've seen), for how little time he was actually on screen. Most pepple are shocked to learn amount of time he had on screen. 2. Ralph Fiennes-Amon Goeth in Schindler's List. 3. Heath Ledger-The Joker in the Dark Knight! 4. Jack Nicholson-Jack Torrance in The Shining 5. Kathy Bates-Annie Wilkes in Misery. I needed to put her on the list because I have never seen a woman on screen more terrifying, psychotic, and unpredictable as her! I have to add some honorable mentions: Javier Bardem-Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men. Christoph Waltz-Col. Hans Landa in Inglorious Bastards. Anthony Perkins-Norman Bates in Psycho Denzel Washington-Alonzo Harris in Training Day Val Kilmer-Doc Holliday in Tombstone. I know he wasn't a "bad guy" but he was a crook and had no hesitation to kill or fight anyone who crossed him. Plus he absolutely took the movie over as a supporting actor. Jack Nicholson-Col. Jessup in A Few Good Men. He, like Kilmer as a supporting actor, absolutely took the movie over. He had only 3 scenes but they were by far the 3 best of the movie, which is a great movie IMO. Joe Pesci-Tommy DeVito in Goodfallas Kevin Spacey-John Doe in Se7en Also, James Earl Jones as voice of Darth Vader, and Josh Brolin as Thanos. Finally, Michael Myers in Halloween (1978) was one of the scariest human villains to never say a single word. I had to mention him on here just for the character. P.S. If there are any memorable or noteworthy mentions (villain/crook/crazy) I forgot, let me know. It may even be a movie I have not seen.

In the world today we have enemies of 2 different kinds: ones that are normal adverseries and ones who are the primary nemesis. The nemesis will be the forever opponent in a standoff of "the unstoppable force meets the immovable object". In the mainstream comics the Joker has taken a personal interest in Batman ever since their first meeting in the Ace Chemical Factory. The unidentified man known only as The Red Hood was coerced into robbing the factory after his wife and child passed on due to labor complications (that's just one account. He has told several different accounts but the only two things that were the same was Batman and the factory). Anyway, since he had this red bowl over his head he couldn't see where he was going and was running from Batman. He tripped over the ledge, fell into a cat of chemicals and got washed through a drainage pipe. When he took the bowl off his face looks how it's today. He has no motives: his plots only make sense to him.

They offered Katie Holmes (OG Rachel) several times less after she “escaped” Tom Cruise, so she declined to come back. If i remember correct she made 3 million from Batman Begins, but they offered her about 1 million to come back for DKR. I believe the media was weaving the narrative that Katie Holmes was “the crazy one” (not Tom Cruise) so the studio lowballed her to cover their asses in the event she did something crazy and harmed herself. ALSO, being separated from Tom Cruise, hurt her value to Hollywood and thus lowered her “asking price”

Heath Ledger's Joker was the scariest joker in live action .and oddly to me personally the scariest scene was when Batman was beating him up and the joker got pleasure out of it ..just a complete sadistic psychopath
