It's amazing, yes. It has always been open to the public before, not sure why it was closed today... it's a narrow, spiral staircase, pitch black really until you get to the top! Well worth a visit. I hope they'll reopen it!

Yes, I’ve never heard about the monument being closed and I have visited it a few times. If you go take a torch with you as has been noted it is pitch black inside and can be dangerous! It has wonderful views from the top.

I've been before, numerous times. I'm just down the road from it, in Haddington! It's a nice little hike, I'm hoping it's not permanently closed. I suspect it might be closed in winter. Haven't been back since but planning to visit again soon.
