It's not a Focus, but I recently lucked out with acquiring an '08 Mondeo 2.0 Titanium... and I'm blown away by how good of a car you can get these days for £2k. It's quick, beautiful, comfortable, economical and reliable. The bodywork is practically immaculate and it even came with a near-flawless MOT history. I mean what the heck more could you want! Same here, I bought few days ago 08 Mondeo Titanium 2.0 Gasoline + LPG for less than 5kEUR in Bulgaria, which considering the current second hand car market situation is almost a good deal. You get a lot of car for your money with an old school reliable engine and the only irritating downside generally for this Focus/Mondeo generation is the quality of the dashboard plastics - they are covered with a very low quality coating and wear off laughably bad.

It has NEVER left me down. The biggest thing I had to replace was the clutch last year. I've not had to replace anything that wasn't age related such as the windscreen seal at the bottom. The car has been perfect! I drive it like I stole it and still get 38mpg. I've saved up for a new car a number of times over the years but i end up just spending the money on the family as my car still works fine!

I'll do you one better: 2005 Ford Focus. 2.0 petrol (Duratec HE). Titanium spec. 3dr. still going strong in 2022. the only real issue I've had has been the AC which has been quite delicate (split pipes, replaced condensor, regassing etc) other than the boot leaking (common fault) and the instrument cluster starting to fail (again another common fault among the mk2 and mk2.5 (facelift) its been a solid car. its took me to plenty of places and all taken in its stride. who would've thought stuffing a mondeo engine into a focus would be a stroke of genius, as its super fun to drive, but is equally at home munching motorway miles. to be honest I've took what i consider to be good care of it. to the point that i could have the bodywork cleaned up, stick a private reg on it, and no-one would ever believe its a 17/18 year old car. oh and SIDENOTE: the Mk2 was introduced in 2005. not 2003. its more common to see the mk1 as an '05, with some of the EARLY early mk2s being a '54 plate. UNPOPULAR OPINION: the Mk2 is better looking than the facelift, imo.

I bought a -07 Mk2 pre facelift 1.8 Flexifuel in August for the equivalent of 800 pounds with 310000 kilometres (close to 200000 miles) behind it. MOT with a broken spring Monday, fixed and clean MOT yesterday. Runs like a champ. You really don't feel the miles. A bit of surface rust underneath but to be expected with Swedish salty winter roads. And the throttle body needs a clean. But besides that an awesome car. Thanks for your great videos. Cheers from Sweden 🍻

We had an 07 mk3 1.8 zetec. An absolute cracking motor. Bought it in 2010, sold it in 2021, we did about 70k miles on it. Had it serviced regularly as well and the engine was sweet as a nut . Cost wise, a coil pack, radiator, tyres, coil spring here and there, brake pads and shoes and a battery. We only got rid because we were going done to one car and it wanted some work doing for its mot. Which is the the reason i fell out with the local ford dealer, as they tried to rip me off. I sold it to my cousin, who is still using it. One of the best value money cars i have ever had.

I had a 2009 Fiesta which looks to have the same 1.6 petrol engine as this. Fuel economy wasn't amazing, I'd get low 40s on a motorway run but it was pretty solid - I owned the car from 7k miles and took it up to 125k miles in 3 years and in that time the only thing I ever had to do beyond normal basic servicing was a new clutch, a new radiator fan and a replacement throttle body. I gave it to my father in law a few years back and while it's had to have a few parts replaced due to age (AC condenser, couple of suspension bushes and a few other bits and pieces), it's now on 168k miles and the engine is still going strong. It's really quite impressive but I guess the 118k I put on it being almost all motorway miles was quite an easy life for it since it didn't even need a single suspension component changing until about 145k miles.

Got my Mk2 2006 Focus Ghia during Covid and cant complain. Sacked off my diesel for a petrol (glad I did now) due to DPF and the complexities of diesels. These Zetec petrol engines are cheap as old boots to fix, just as you said though if you look after them then they look after you! That goes for any car really. Apart from the typical Ford rust issues its been a reliable beast. Ive replaced a fair few bits on it as it had been a school run car previously and run into the ground. Engine was mint though. Its so quiet its like driving an old coach on the motorway with cruise on. The heated windows are a god-send. I know I will need to replace it at some point but Im loathed to as all the newer cars need to be plugged into Nasa to sort them out. Got a friend with an Audi that literally had to program his new battery to his car....WTF!!! You can sod that!!!!!

Good video Alan, I've had my 2010 focus since virtually new its just done over 100k I've done all the basic maintenance myself and recently had the timing belt and water pump replaced the only thing that failed recently was the bonnet catch mechanism behind the grill and yes it happens when the bonnet is closed and won't open .I've replaced it with a new plastic arm version from amazon. If this does happen you just need to pull up the plastic grill from the bottom and remove the key barrel from behind and brutally pull off the old cable from the bonnet lock until your left with a screw driver slot at the lock itself and your able to use a crew driver to unlock the bonnet.

We have a mk2 2.0 tdci ghia estate. I really like the looks of the car. It is reliable if looked after, ours was gutted before we bought it, so it has no cat and dpf. It was also remaped, so the engine is very punchy, but the flywheel rattles a lot. Handling is very nice and precise, gears also feel solid and precise. I would say rust is an issue with the front fenders. They rot at the bottom, but then again ours got no plastic trim there, maybe its because its pre facelift, idk. The car has good stock music, speaking for the sony player from the heigher trim, very clear noise, solid base. It has a built in aux port, so id say its actually better than my honda accords premium audio system from the same age. Overall you get a lot of car for the money, id say one of the nicer options from vehicles of the same class and era.

The only problem was the instrument cluster, sometimes it wouldn't start and throw out all kinds of faults. Little tip when this happens, slap the top of dash over instrument cluster and it will kick into life. I removed the cluster myself dropped into a local company and they soldered the the connections on the circuit board for €100.

It's comfortable on long trips perhaps a little bit thirsty on fuel but a nice smooth engine nevertheless and nice smooth manual gear-change on mine. Only niggle I've ever had is the bonnet lock mechanism which I've had to replace a couple of times. Just a very poor design feature. The internal release is better by far. I've been looking at the Mk3's but in all honesty I much prefer the design of Mk2 and I'd much rather have the 1.6 engine over the new tiny little 1.0 Ecoboost.

Modded in auto wipers lights, the fancy digital cluster, headlamp washers, rear disc brakes, ST boost / oil temp cluster and oil separator oh, and mapped it to 145hp. I couldn't recommend it enough, but, If you don't service every 6k and keep the DPF clear you will have issues, terminal issues! Again good for another week or so fluid smelling burnt so did more research and replaced high pressure line thinking it might of been collapsing more fresh fluid can't get it to bleed no power steering so talked to the people we got the rack from and got another one put it in still the same . Got a vacuum bleeder still can't get it to work . Striped both pumps and old racks to have a look how they worked . all the vanes in the pumps are free in the pumps the OG one looks ok but is way more worn them the other cleaned the pump and put it back on still nothing . Can't work it out any Ideas thanks .. Glen

I've had 3 Mk3 Mondeo's, the last being a Ghia X diesel auto. My lad has a very good ST TDCi hatchback. I see that your example has cruise control, probably an option with the push button starting. That's been the problem for me buying a Focus, I'd probably have to go 2.0 petrol auto and either Ghia or a model with cruise as I consider that essential. I also wouldn't drive anything with a Powershift gearbox so I'm rather limiting my choices.

Hi Alan, hoping for some advice if at all possible... I know you've left us and ford's behind but I'm in a bit of a bind and no one, anywhere in the Internet or forums seems to know. I have a 1.6 tdci diesel 2009 focus. The radio works but barely any sound. Sound comes from driver door only, sometimes front passenger, never the rears! I've tried 4 ford radios in it to confirm it's not the head unit. Been told its the audio control module. So I've reset that using forscan, ..still same problem.. The thing is I have heard the seperate acm does get faulty yet the ones who tell me this cannot tell me where the audio control module is? I've looked everywhere, behing glove box, behind head unit, behind heating controls. Any idea where I can find this module? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated thankyou. Hope alls well out there 👍

hi Davey, I won't be much help here but seems to me it would not make any sense to have a separate audio control unit unless you had a separate audio unit like an amplifier, as far as I am aware the acm is part of the radio unit itself, I would however remove one of the rear door cards and try another speaker...silly as it seems we did have a focus once with four dud speakers....I don't have autodata anymore to check the wiring diagram for the audio system but that would be your next call to find someone who can give you a wiring diagram copy to see what is involved and where the speaker wires connect

Thanks Alan, I've been hellbent on this acm as its all I've seen written yet I haven't tried the old hifi speaker trick on every door speaker! Encouraging you have found a focus with duff speakers before.. dare I dream it would be something so simple? 😆 Thanks for the reply sir 👍

@@Davey-DrI can’t remember for sure but I think it was the head unit that went faulty and blew the speakers
@Davey-Dr7 ай бұрын
Ah ok, that's interesting! I went to the scrappy and tried 4 different radios and they all powered the 1 speaker the same, now that wouldn't negate the fact that the headunit had caused the problem that you just alluded to.... So I will upgrade it to the sony head unit I already tried and replace all speakers once I've tried the spare speaker trick if it works. Seems odd speakers would just stop working without some sort of catalyst and the headunit blowing them makes sense. Many thanks Alan for that heads-up. I didn't even think of the head unit already causing the problem in the first place

I have a question for you Alan, I have a 2008 Mondeo Titanium x 2.0 TDCI and it's bloody AWFUL on fuel, like stupid bad, i had a Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 V6 diesel before it and that did more on the fuel than my Mondeo, Are they that bad or could there be something wrong ? Thanks mate.

Heard many 1.6 petrol with tapping from the small end probably down to lack of servicing as I live in South East London, but also heard many a bad story from fords engine plant , so listen carefully to engine before buying one

Hello. Can you tell me your opinion on the Ford Mondeo Titanium MK4 2011/2012 CC hatchback? I own one and am not happy! 2 l. 144hp auto. This is a mondeo titanium and not a vw polo! It is far too noisy inside while driving!!? Lots of stupid solutions as the instrument panel has tragically little info. Placement of seat warmer in front of cup holder. Motor data control front bumper front. Auto side mirror that goes into auto when you lock the car that you can't turn off. Petrol lid locking mechanism which has a weakness and needs to be replaced and takes the fuse. then you stand there and can't fill up with diesel! Front lights that shine more dimly than you expect. Car stereo that does not have the sound quality you expect from a Mondeo Titanium. Headlights that are no longer sealed and fill up with water. The large shelf plate in the trunk of the hatchback which is CHEAPLY made and breaks quickly if you lift it incorrectly. The floor plate in the luggage compartment is made cheaply and not well. screws for the seat belt in the back seat have screw holes straight through the bodywork and out on the underside. water and salt and everything hits the screw and it rusts. Suddenly high revs when you take off from 0. You can hardly press the gas pedal, when the turbo has spun up you suddenly have high revs and stand there for 2 3 seconds before it shifts. After that everything is 100% ok. and normal. gearbox data and engine data are not programmed correctly! and several other things I dislike!

Bloody love the sigma engines. Got one in a fiesta the 1.25 version and it’s done 145k miles now and it just keeps going. Wanting to replace it with the last of the mk7 fiestas as they’re the last shape to have that engine in unfortunately.

2017 is the last year they were made for them and the focus. The last of the old-school zetec lumps. Brilliant engines. In the UK in the last 50 years there are some notable engines that have been the beating heart of the average family street - the A-series, K-series, Pinto, CVH, GM Family One a few more to add... and the Sigma 'Zetec' engine.

Down side is the 1.6 only has rear drum brakes. But you can swap the rear bearings disc , brake calipers and handbrake cable from the 1.8 or 20 lt. into the 1.6. Which make better braking. Done it on sons. Car

Perhaps. But is it really necessary on a little car or just a sales fad, like having 5 wheel nuts..

I have a 2008 Titanium with the half leather seats and 2.0 Duratec engine. I was looking to replace it with Focus MK IV, but it has no decent engines anymore, unless I want the ST version. Which I'm not allowed to buy according to my girlfriend. So I guess I'm just going to keep it until it shits the bed.
