One quick question. Do worn out bushing create a popping sound when turning the wheels? I hear a popping sound every time I turn my steering wheel to the right. I have already replaced the sub frame bolts with ECS tuning ones.
@HarrodsGarage

Na sure with popping. Might be a drive shaft CV. Bushes tend to make a knocking noice

1st, thanks for the video as it gave me a picture as I have to do mine. 2nd, this was scary to watch. You are very unsafe and if you do not rethink your safety habits you will end up badly hurt or even dead. You can not be exercising so much power on those nuts while being underneath the car over those - apparently- not too sturdy jack stands only. You can do one side at a time and the car will be a lot more stable on 3 wheels and a stand (and a wheel and else) and get a breaker bar and undo those from afar. You can never be too precautious when doing things like this on your own. Please be more careful and again thanks for the vid!

changed the front wishbones of my 2.0 tdi golf yesterday first one easy 2nd one for some strange reason the bolt snapped first time it had been took of too was moving the bolt back and forward and spraying wd40 on it and it snapped right at the head end aint a clue why it was so tight like it one of the 3 long bolts which hold the main bush in so just driving on 2 bolts till i get this fixed only about 5 mm of the bolt showing and the bolts are around 3, somethink inchs long what is the best way to go i was thinking of drilling the bolt then put a slighter longest bolt through and the a washed a nut of other side of steel plate as there is room to do this any advice would be great
@HarrodsGarage
@HarrodsGarage 6 жыл бұрын
I think this happens because the shaft of the bolt is actual exposed to the elements when in the mount. Maybe spray the bolt with some type of rust preventer and leave for a while. And extract it with a screw/bolt removal drill bit

Is there a any way to replace just rubber inside bushes, is just pull out back and put new ones?
@HarrodsGarage
@HarrodsGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. Depends on what type of bush you have. OEM no, you need to replace the whole part. Aftermarket like I’ve put in. If you can just purchase the polyurethane or what ever the bush is made out of
@stop116
@stop116 2 жыл бұрын
that's wrong, you can change them on OEM too, as I did that myself... upgraded to Polythene bushes, but now going back on MEYLE rubber bushes... Reason - clunking noise... They're definitely a good choice if you drive on perfect roads, but if you drive in UK the hardness of poly bushings is destroying all your suspensions weaker parts like ball joints
@WeRemainFaceless
@WeRemainFaceless 6 жыл бұрын
You should have replaced the bolts as they're torque to yield (one time use only). Now that they're back in, the next time you come to remove them, they'll probably snap. Same happened to me; replaced bushes with oem and kept same bolts, 6 months later replaced the bushes for the superpro Antilift kit and snapped 3 of the 6 bolts when removing. Had to replace both subframe to chassis brackets and get a re-alignment done after. Nightmare.

I have a 2.0L FSI engine auto front wheel drive. The engine was shaking so I have replaced the front left and right motor mounts and replaced the dogbone mount and the subframe bushings. The engine still vibrates but not has bad. My question... I don’t think there are any other mounts on this engine that I can replace except for this bush mount on the control arms. I didn’t replace this yet because I thought this is suspension and it would have no causes to engine vibration is this correct?? If I need to replace this bush mount on the control arm is it better just to replace the bush mount as seen on this video or replace the control arm unit??
@HarrodsGarage
@HarrodsGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah control arm is suspension so it won’t effect that. Have you done a transmission mount? Sorry I haven’t had a 2.0l so I’m not sure

@nicholasmartinful
@nicholasmartinful 3 жыл бұрын
If it's vibrating could it be an issue with the engine itself you can upgrade all the mounts in the car yet the engine will still vibrate and move within the new mounts

Hi, I was wondering what are the signs that these control arms need to be replaced? Any particular sounds that I should be aware of? I’m hearing a clunking sound on my mk5 gti (dsg) when it downshifts from 3rd to 2nd. Some are saying it’s my dsg but the clunk could be heard from the left passenger side (I’m from the UK)
@HarrodsGarage
@HarrodsGarage 5 жыл бұрын
It was a clunking sound but it was when going over speed humps that I could hear it. If I remember correctly I had visible tears in the bushings. If you are hearing it on downshifts I’d be looking at the gearbox mounts as well then

I think so, this was about a year ago I did this. They were pretty hard to get out but not fully seized. I’ve been told I should have replaced them. A good part of the shaft of the bolt is actually exposed to the elements if I remember correctly.

Ok, so you've got rear bushings replaced..... Front ones? I understand that they may flex less and under lesser stress but do age and dry-up and deteriorate from elements... I am just saying...
