Hello from Devon in the UK - if you were a service centre I would bring my car without hesitation. Excellent detail in the presentation. We in the UK call the ‘prime’ function a ‘pump-learn’. The control box relearns the voltages and current that control the pump speed/pressure. Without the learn it will remain 2x2 as countless folk have discovered. Happy Christmas to you and yours

just out of curiosity does the car need to be running and in p before activate the pump prime thanks

Some videos seem much easier to find than others, but this one has been the one I’ve found most helpful to me so thanks for taking the time, the editing and the commentary. You got the balance just right!
@sibzilla2 жыл бұрын
Having done this myself. A few notes for anyone reading comments deep enough to get here: I had no slack in the cable for the pump and I couldnt remove the plug for the haldex co trip unit so I had to remove it using t30 torx bits. It’s not easy to reach these, so check you can either remove plug before going ahead or make sure you have the tools to reach these t30/10mm bolts that hood it on. Once out you can use a screwdriver to pop the plug off by pushing from within the small hole on the plug. When refitting the pump, you need to return the wiring. It’s easier to return the wiring and ready up the clips before pushing the pump back in. Using OBDEleven, the pump priming option is found in All Wheel Drive and then Basic Settings. For it to work the engine needs to be running. I ran the pump twice and got a decent bit extra in, nearly 100ml. The main problem with this job is reaching bolts and plugs. I had loads of sludge on the filter at 29k , but the oil wasn’t that bad looking and I hadn’t notice any ill effects. Glad to have done it tho! Will be interesting to discover if the sludge returns when I do it again.

This is the best video I've seen on Haldex service!

Another great video. I was looking for another hand pump and I may try yours. I’ve done basically the same process except adding more fluid after priming. I’ll look into doing that next time.

Something you didn’t mention (not sure if you know). The two o-rings are not the same size. The rear is slightly bigger.

Thanks for sharing the video. Big help. Can I just change fluid only ? if so, i guess no need to prime it
@jeffking5435 ай бұрын
Thanks so much. Keeping the pump attached makes this much more do-able on jack stands. I'm looking at the service manuals and don't see anything about priming. I searched the Rear Final Drive manual for "prime" and nothing came up.

Oil looked really clean, how many miles were on the car at the time?

Great step by step video and also love you give your take on the experience without forcing a conclusion. A bit hard to follow the OBDeleven steps for temp check and priming the pump. Where exactly is this done in OBDeleven?
@EVERYTHINGcpo3 жыл бұрын
Go to awd, live data, and just search for temp, and you’ll see a few pop up. I am still not sure which is the best one, but they were all pretty close anyway.

Super Good Stuff! There is much disbelief about the GTI's with PP as well. We have the same pump w/o the Control Module that the R has. I don't know of anyone that has at least removed the pump and cleaned their screen - especially when you have higher torque tunes. Will be doing this to my GTI's pump, because we are "enthusiasts" right! Don't want that sucker to go out that's for sure. Thumbs up!

Would you also need to service the front differential? If so how often or are these done together?
@seeesh_2 жыл бұрын
If your front wheels spin and you decide to replace the oil and clean the pump you MUST to prime the pump.
@Malicious-Intentionz2 жыл бұрын
I want to do mine. I was told it was done in 50k intervals I’m about to hit 50k miles on my R, kind of afraid to mess anything up, and tips for tools, or anything I need?
@CliffPeeples3 жыл бұрын
When in doubt prime it out. ;)

would it be a good idea to use hear to warm that bolt first?

Tried reusing the mounting bolts for the pump and broke as I was torquing one. So get replacement hardware folks.

Great video! So far I've changed the fluid on my MK7 R three times since I've owned it (once every 30K km). First two times the filter was about the same as yours, most recently it was absolutely covered in gunk! I wasn't having any AWD issues before but I can't imagine the flow was that good. It's an easy service that I'll keep doing and will be interested to see if it's going to be better or worse.
@EVERYTHINGcpo3 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Do you prime yours or just fill it and go?
@1991BMWM53 жыл бұрын
@@EVERYTHINGcpo I use my OBD11, reset adaptation, prime, top off, and prime.
@attocoulomb2 жыл бұрын
You might be able to use the OBD11 to monitor the pump current. In another video, they found that the pump current was much reduced after cleaning a very gunked up screen. So, you might be able to check it periodically to see whether the required current is increasing, which might imply a contaminated screen.

On a mk7 golf gti which has the e-diff would the haldex and e-diff service be seperate? So taking of haldex pump and clean the gauze/mesh filter be enough, is there a stock mechanical front diff separate from e-diff which also needs a lubrication service? TIA
@jeffking5435 ай бұрын
I believe haldex is only on AWD systems, so not applicable to GTI

@@eleazarcassis2870 And to just make sure we are 100% on the same page… not once in this video did I ever reference the OBD2 port. Not a single time. He quite clearly states what OBDEleven is - you watched 14 seconds and decided to be a know it all. You might want to check this guy’s channel - he knows a ton about his Golf R and available products to use to service it.
