Kano made a HUGE mistake there by reminding Sonya about the rules of a time paradox when he threatened Johnny AND thus threatening Cassie at the same time. That was what basically sealed his fate, besides the fact whatever Sonya did to past Kano in terms of pain affected him, and that's why he was desperate to threaten Johnny and Cassie, only for that decision to lead Sonya to kill past Kano, thus making the time paradox that killed him in the present. We didn't even see much of this in the main story, but we do see it in Aftermath after Shao Kahn breaks past Liu Kang's legs and it affects his Revenant self too.

I still think Kano deserves to get a W. He's not the posterboy of the franchise, but he is one of the OGs. He is evil, but no tyrant. He has finesse and tact and a boatload of charisma.. to the right people. He a brute, yet knows how to navigate deals. Out of all the evil characters I think he's the least "bad for everyone" else. Even in his non-canon ending of having the power of the Hourglass.. he actually quickly realizes that a fair game is much more entertaining. He accepts losses because they make the victories all the sweeter. So yeah, I think Kano deserves a W.
