While there is a defensive mentality in any 2 strike count, and the burden of responsibility is to never let the umpire steal your at bat. It was clearly not anywhere near being a strike, and Ichiro is one of the most disciplined hitters in history. There is no circumstance where that pitch should be called a strike by a major league umpire. The zone doesn't grow at 0-2, the area that a batter will swing does.
