I loved the response, too. I earned an mfa from a private college in Minnesota. I came from a poor family, but I belived in my craft and was a good student. I was treated like garbage for being a white, heterosexual male. I was "coached out," as they say, because I offered resistance to the notion that all white men are racist, sexist oppressors. Foolishly, I resisted the coaching out and saw the program through to graduation. I have since felt afraid to engage with any of my former students and professors. I benefited not one iota from the program. I deeply regret attending. I should have left when they "invited" me to do so. I advise any white, heterosexual male to avoid liberal arts programs, unless they wish to be discriminated against. I still love writing and communication, but I will never forget how poorly I was treated on the basis of my skin color and gender. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! Learn a trade, or study independently. These people are trained to hate you, and they are very good at it.

@joec.54423 жыл бұрын
@@nt4979 The damage is far greater than my terrible experience. These schools are systemically eliminating intelligence and competence from our culture. The double standards are obvious. Discrimination on the basis of race and/or gender is ignorant. But to do so as a means of combating discrimination is malicious. Just look at how people think and communicate now. Look at the gutter-level standards for academic success. If this is a game of 'how do you like it,' then everyone will lose. The college claims to be a place of inclusiveness, but they only mean it if you look a certain way. This is either blind hypocrisy, or willful misrepresentation, i.e. they are either fools, or they are liars. Which of those would you say best describes you? And if you could spare me any more of your contrived empathy, I would very much appreciate it.

@@oyotundookubegwa520 No. From what I hear, they're pretty much all like this now. The rest of the world is catching up to that fact, as well. International students are beginning to realize that American higher education is a waste of time and money. Our institutions now cater to the ignorant at the expense of the gifted. It's all rotten. Privileged snobbery and legacy students on one end; hypersensitive snowflakes and eternal victims on the other. Those who actually love to learn and think, who work their asses of just to be there, and then work more to succeed academically; they're only recognized if they can check an intersectionality box, or make appropriate (read self-loathing) noises. Honestly, what point would be served by my naming the school? This is not a problem with a particular school; it's a cultural problem. (Although I suspect that you already know this.)

You should've gone to U of M. They hate most black folks over in Dinkytown. Also, I will say, I live in Minnesota as a black woman originally from the south. And honestly.....wish I didn't buy a house here. This state kinda sucks for any ethnicity. No. Not kinda. White, Black, Lakota, Hmong, Latino, all of us have a story of someone here being not just blatantly racist, but dangerously racist. Cops tailing me with their hands on their guns I guess waiting for little ole me to do something they could call me out on. Neighbors calling the cops on me for "stealing a package" off of my own porch (spoiler alert, I didn't even have a package. So she called the cops on me leaving my house), the cops approach me with their hands on their guns while I pick my son up from daycare. Not to mention all the racism in high school, not just from white people but from literally EVERYONE. The most hateful multicultural school I ever went to. So tl;dr: Minnesota is cool because all the jobs, public transit, and some parks. But people wise, this state SUCKS.

The only way you can have an understanding and a productive conversation with others REGARDLESS their backgrounds, gender, creeds and cultures is by GIVING THEM THE CHANCE TO EXPLAIN AND DEFEND THEIR OWN OPINIONS WITHOUT ATTACKING THEM OR JUDGING THEM IMMEDIATELY FOR THINKING DIFFERENTLY. SHUTTING DOWN Someone because they don't think like you or maybe they do but they don't want to be tag as RACIST because of their disagreements on how they view the world, is NOT a winning move & it definitely defeats the whole purpose of any town hall meeting that looks for any solution.
