Your cats are so cute and big. I just want to hug them. My cat is usually quiet but for some reason she wants to be vocal whenever I'm trying to record a video. She would also start being super extra by doing her "crazy cat" run. I have to now leave her in a room when I record because she had sabotaged many videos lol. One day, she even knocked down my tripod smh. I don't know why she can't be chilled like her brother (the dog).

I made a throwaway so I could clear up a couple of things. The story with Mary Kay Mom was mine. Yes, that should have been chapsticks, not chopsticks-- thanks for nothing, autocorrect. And yes, Brock was a friend and classmate who passed away very unexpectedly. I would technically have time for both. But I had zero interest in sobbing over my friend's casket and then jumping in the car for some garbage "facial."

Thank you for sending in your story!! Knowing that Brock was a friend and classmate who passed makes your story even more horrifying 💔 You are completely justified in not wanting to attend a Mary Kay party that day and I’m disgusted that it was even suggested to you.

I’m so sorry to hear that! MLM Huns truly become blinded by the opportunity. I was also under the dang spell. However, I did not have children or ever recruit anyone and I made literally one sale. When the love bombing stopped when I had to quit after 3 months bc I moved to another country…I saw all their true colors and was absolutely gutted. When another MLM tried to recruit me I saw the “group” go from love bombing to discarding within 2 hours when I refused to sign up. I was literally sitting on a couch with a lady who I laughed & joked with the whole party. When I said “No, this isn’t for me”, she literally frowned & turned her WHOLE BODY away from me. Everyone at the party proceeded to ignore me & focus on the 2 who signed up. That’s the moment that I became anti-MLM. Also, I consistently wondered if one of those “new sign-ups” was a plant…he was way too happy to sign up & lose his money.

I once was getting ready for a poker party, cleaning my house. Suddenly the doorbell rings. It was a guy wanting to talk to me about Kirby vacuums. Growing up my grandma had a Kirby and it still works to this day (but you can't get bags for it anymore) so I told him I really couldn't afford it but thank you. This dude would not take no for an answer. He pushed his way in and kept talking. I told my husband I had stuff to do and enjoy. This man vacuumed my entire house and basically marked the vacuum price down to only 600$ lol I eventually had to kick him out because guests were arriving. He was so mad that he wasted all that time and still didn't get a sale. I told him from the beginning It was a no sale so I didn't feel bad for him. He did manage to get up the bottle of glitter we had spilled 4 years prior and had been vacuuming up ever since lol

As an ex Mormon- part of why it is really easy to recruit Mormons and keep them from doing their own research is because often they are taught to trust and believe people at their word. This isn’t to say every Mormon is naive, just that if your raised Mormon your taught to believe in people and especially to trust others of the same faith

"It was almost like they were trying to program my mind to forget the experience" this is brilliant. Exactly! The upline saw she was upset so tried to force out a false, enthusiastic 'it was awesome!' from here because that really does work. It really can make you remember things differently, or change your mind, because you need to keep up the feeling of being consistent. Feeling that our views and behaviors are consistent is incredibly important for psychological wellbeing, so we do stuff like this subconsciously; we re-write memories or change our opinions, just to feel consistent. Saying you loved the conference, while you didn't, is an inconsistency, it's gonna create an unpleasant cognitive dissonance. Our minds try to not let that happen so it really could make her view the conference differently with time - "maybe it wasn't so bad after all" - so the dissonance is not there.

That adding people’s friends thing is a real thing! When I did Mary Kay back in like 2014 my upline made us go through our friends list and message people and then go through our friends’ friends list and message or add THEIR friends. We were told to “look for people who looked like they could be customers or team members”.

I didn't know that Kirby was an MLM! We did buy one from a door-to-door salesman about 25 years ago that had a shampoo attachment, but sadly, our house was broken into about a year later and it was stolen along with our stereo and some other things. It was covered under the homeowners insurance but I replaced it with a cheap garbage vacuum rather than try to find a new Kirby.

The stories from the LDS member and the Paparazzi person are great segues into understanding the psychological tactics used by MLMs and high-control religious groups to recruit and retain members. The BITE model is a great checklist of said tactics and can help you determine whether a group you are in is high-control (i.e., a cult) and to what extent. There are many reasons MLMs are rampant in LDS communities, many of which stem from the social control tactics used by the LDS Church on its members. And because the members are used to those tactics, it makes them particularly vulnerable to those same tactics being used by MLMs. Obviously the LDS Church isn't the only example of this; there have been numerous times where members of high-control religious groups are easy prey for MLMs. Keep yourself educated on high-control tactics and stay aware! You deserve so much better than to be manipulated by other humans pretending to speak for God.

I commented this on another recent video of yours, but I had a run in with that dōterra massage party. I catered to one, and I can answer your question: it was straight essential oils being put directly on these ladies’ skin. No dilution whatsoever. And on top of that, it was being diffused as well. I remember walking into this lady’s house and seeing someone half naked on a massage table and thinking “wtf is going on” then when I started to set up…I saw the millions of dōterra branded products on her kitchen counter. It smelled so strongly of essential oils in there that the next house I delivered to for a grad party said they could smell the lavender on me. I didn’t even TOUCH any of the oils

When my son told me that Papazzari was an MLM I simply didn't believe it. The person I purchase from on FB has never tried to recruit me and has only sold jewelry., which I actually love. It makes me wonder if it is possible to be a part of an MLM and NOT recruit, but the cult aspects of the MLM mean that the majority of people buy in.

Something you mentioned in another video that got me thinking. One of the writers mentioned how the hun had tried to convince her to buy her product to gift to impoverished women thus supporting their low income communities right. Something along those lines I can't remember the exact wording she used. But after some thought and further listening to the predatory practices I realized something. When I had my first child I ended up quickly leaving his father and found us both inside of a women's shelter for three months. We used to get donations for us and our kids pretty often but one that I recall seeing regularly in these places, ie the women's and family shelters, the job search locations, the donation places where women could get work appropriate attire and accessories, etc.... were makeup samples through Mary Kay and Avon and a few others that always had cards with them or catalogs and such that offered "jobs" and products advertised to "looking your best" for interviews and the like. While many of these places are privately funded through churches and the like there were also many of them that were state funded and encouraged women in the vulnerable positions of not only having children but escaping domestic violence and/or homelessness to look into these companies as viable job search opportunities. It makes you think and wonder how deeply many of these run when you're finding them inside of state funded programs meant to actually help these folks out of poverty. It's kind of crazy.

Ah, doTERRA’s AromaTouch technique! It is very weird (I got “certified” in this). A carrier oil is used but the oils are not diluted properly. They just apply some carrier to the person’s back then use the recommendation amounts of the prescribed essential oils. For massage, the dilution rate is 1% (3 drops of EO per 2 teaspoons of carrier, but some EOs have different dilution rates). If I remember correctly, 5 different EOs were used. Some women reacted strangely after their massage. Two women were slumped in a corner, giggling to themselves. doTERRA reps called that “oil drunk” and acted like it was a good thing! No one there was actually a message therapist. We were told what to do and sent home with a booklet about this “technique”. Everyone got a certificate saying we passed the class. So sketchy!

I have been so lucky that as many times I've been approached to join an MLM I've never done it. I didn't know what Primerica was but the "interview" was down right strange and the way they hounded me to "take the job" I knew it was NOT legit.

I had an aunt force us me to sell her crap.... how she screwed me out of Avon to work for hers. Once I joined she told me I had to quit Avon bc they were competition. I was so pissed back then

Absolutely wild that the Paparazzi rep went to a conference and was horrified, I think that’s the first time I’ve heard a horror story where the convention brainwashing completely had the opposite effect.

Also why should people quit their current jobs for an mlm when its supposed to be such a low maintenance opportunity?

Omg I remember one of my sons bday parties I had the brochures sprawled out. I used to sell Avon at this point. The one who sucked me in. I was a customer for atleast 10 years and loved the products.

Massage oil should be a neutral oil like almond, coconut, something like that. Sometimes they are scented with essential oils but should be scented lightly.
@sisuguillam51092 жыл бұрын
Black Cumin oil works very well too. And you are absolutly right that it should be only lightly scented (if at all).

I appreciate that you try to keep you channel clean. I know everyone has a right to say what they want, but I find it so much more enjoyable when I don’t have to worry if I don’t have my AirPods.

I second the flashbacks! I had one in this video when stampin up was mentioned. I didn’t even know that was an MLM until now but it all makes sense now!

I didnt know Kirby was an MLM until watching one of your videos.. my mother got one when I was a kid.. I had no idea but now it makes sense. I still remember the guy coming in to clean our carpets... also my mom still has the kirby. She will never get rid of that thing, since she spent SO much money on it.. they are decent vacuums I wont lie.. but that guy got my mom, and got my mom into trouble with my dad.. may have been the start to their divorce now I think of it... lol

I do remember they come and clean a nice square in the carpet that ends up looking really odd unless you buy it to finish off the rest of the room!!!

I was watching this, and my dog and I noticed the meowing at the same time and looked at each other like "Was that the TV or outside?" It's raining hard right now (Seattle area), so I had to pause the video to see if it was an animal in my backyard that needed to get out of the rain. 🤣 I started watching your videos for the anti MLM, but stayed for the Poshmark. I started selling at the beginning on November, and I've already sold enough to make back the money I spent on the items from the thrift store, thanks to your tips! Thank you for ALL of your content!

My dog thought it was his cat sister. He wouldn't stop faffing at me until I picked him up (he's 10 lbs and tiny), and showed him Olivia was asleep 😆 He was quite confused.

Stampin' up is MLM? Holy crap, I never knew that! Edited to add: now it makes more sense how much my aunt was going on and on about it day after day on FaceBook.

I’ve avoided MLMs over the years because of luck, a good BS detector and lack of ambition. ☺️ Though I suppose a brush with Cutco was an exception, but not worthy of a story. My point: I’m a new subscriber and have listened to many of your excellent videos, and I have several thoughts: 1) you’re providing an amazing-virtually vital-service, being compassionately honest about the dangers and devastation MLMs can bring. 2) Our culture is so focused on get rich quick people easily fall for MLM promises; 3) Critical thinking and doing due diligence is rare, so needs for money, connection, and security can easily overwhelm concerns and red flags; 4) salary inequities between men and women leave women vulnerable to MLM predators; 5) women’s training to be “good girls” means we’re often hesitant to say “no, thanks” to sketchy situations; 6) The connection to religion and cults to MLMs is clear-both require you to swallow false narratives and ignore your own thoughts, feelings and intuition.

I always bright up when suddenly NIKKEN pops into to limelight! My mom sold when I was little. Never heard anything about an upline/downline, but remember her demonstrating the products for people. For what it's worth, I had the magnetic soles as well as NIKKEN mattress and pillow and I liked them and slept very well on them. BUT I'm now sure it had nothing to do with magnets, but they were all hard and a bit "bumpy", which really helped my yet to be diagnosed adhd-brain to relax and go to sleep. Something about numbing the hyper sensitivity for stimuli.

That 'massage' in story one sounds like their "Raindrop Technique". Its supposed to be so great that the founder even wrote a whole book about it and yes, the consultants are using straight essential oils and there have been studies that show using that much undiluted essential oil directly on the skin is unhealthy. The raindrop technique has been discredited and condemned by real aromatherapists and the practice is completely banned in Norway.

We had a Kirby vacuum cleaner when I was growing up - and that thing lasted for over 20 years. It honestly was a great machine! I don't remember anything about it being an MLM. Interesting. And I also didn't know that Avon and Mary Kay were either. My mom and I used to order from those! We never sold them or been connected wiuth any MLM. But I didn't realize that we'd been buying from them for a long time!

Avon only became an MLM in 2005. Not sure about MK.

The problem with Kirby is people are now weirded out by door to door salesmen, but over a 110 years ago when Kirby started, that's how they did things. They didn't have commercials or advertisements, people had to go to your door and show you how it worked. Kirby still has that model and even though they do get commissions on the vacuum cleaners that they sell, so do car salesmen. I've never really heard anybody recruiting people like they do with Mary Kay or Pampered Chef.

Last massage I had (at a day spa) she asked about allergies first, used a carrier oil and added a few drops of an essential oil I chose.

MLMs operate in exactly the same way as many religions. Recruit people, have faith in the “system of ideas”. Earn your rewards, keep going regardless pf outcomes etc…
@moohHa222 жыл бұрын
I qualified in beauty, massage and aromatherapy years ago (I don’t do it now but I was in college for 5 years studying this) and we couldn’t apply straight essential oils to skin as it could cause burns/ allergic reactions/ irritation, etc. We were always taught that you need a base oil (like coconut oil, heck, you could even use olive oil) and you add a couple of drops of essential oils to it. I don’t know if things have changed these days, but if they say they’re selling PURE essential oils then a base oil is needed. Lavender oil has even been linked to miscarriages, so I believe it’s possible to do some harm to yourself/others if you’re not qualified.
