Is water pH still a thing? A friend tried to sell me a $35 bottle of “alkalinity pills” to raise pH in your drinking water. I looked at the ingredients. Bicarbonate soda. Didn’t even pretend to add vitamins or anything. I told her I could buy a large box of Arm n Hammer for 95 cents at any grocery store. She pretended not to understand. Hey, girls. Chemistry matters

Also, If you did Net $1,000 and that wasn't just her sales revenue, that is only an $83 a month (before taxes) salary. And say she worked 40 hrs a week for the whole year. That is only $.48 an hr. I think the reason moms are one of the main target markets for MLM's is because we are used to working 24/7 without pay, so just a little bit of extra money sounds like a win. But, no one would accept that job offer if it was put in actual per-hour terms.

To put it in perspective, the average wage for New York prisoners working in a state-owned business is $.62 per hour. American prisoners get pittance wages and yet many of them still make more money than she did in an MLM.

100%. Like, I'm a stay-at-home mom, & I do Uber Eats - & it pays, well, not super well (unless you're in a big city maybe?) I make like $150 a week, sometimes less. But, I still don't ever work for $1/hour or less, good grief. I get decent money per hour worked, it's just that there aren't a ton of orders always, & I only work a couple hours a day when I have time to. So, I'm willing to deal with iffy pay to be able to work whenever I can, choose what orders I take, etc. - but just straight up losing money and time for NOTHING!? Ouch.

I think it's important to note that companies like Avon and Tupperware started as traditional direct sales (think door to door sales people) and didn't enter the MLM structure until after companies like Herbalife and Amway enter the scene in the late 80s and early nineties. Like the other viewer, I remember flipping through my grandmother's catalog with her Avon lady's name and number stickered on the cover, an being excited by the little samples - but my grandmother was never as to "join a team" because that wasn't a thing for Avon in the 80s. You just had a local woman who was your sales rep and she made commission on sales.

I had the same experience when I was 20 in a Target! I was picking-up some things for a swim lesson I was going to go teach and this couple came up to me. They complimented me on something and they talked about how they were going to this meeting at a house to get guidance because they were going to retire by 30, living their most successful life, etc. I grew up in Las Vegas, and was in a target there and I 100% also thought they were trying to traffic me (or were swingers or something). I got out of there reported them to the target staff and the staff member was like 'oh again?' and they apparently had already been kicked out several times for cornering people about this!

I am so sick of MLM Distributors talking about how small business owners do not make a profit when they first start. This is true but they are not considering that Net Income for a business is not the same as a salary. Small business owners still pay themselves, and that is part of their business expenses. Net Income is revenue - costs of goods sold - all other business expenses. So when a regular business does not make a profit, that does not mean that they did not pay their employees or themselves, it just means that their Net Income was not in the green. With an MLM, the distributors do not do this calculation. If they did, they would realize that they are taking home a very small salary, if any.

This is absolutely spot on! I did Mary Kay for a while and whenever I’d ask my up line for advice about the “accounting” side of it, she would always just tell me not to worry because it would always even out in the end. They really brainwash you! Every week during team meetings, women would submit their total profits from parties for the week and the top earners would be announced. The “catch” was your up line always knew how much you were making…so If you had a $1000 week you were told you made $500 in profit!!! The other $500 was expected go toward buying the product you sold or into a weekly or monthly order to the company for inventory. You were never taught to factor in the cost of gas, postage, samples, shipping cost to order product, or the up-to $40 worth of free product given to each guest of a party. Thankfully I never invested any of my own money in but I hardly made a penny over an entire year, even though on paper should have make $20k!

He named a few possible ways he might know me, I shot down his every possibility. I wasn’t 100% sure what his game was but he wasn’t backing off and I was done. Finally I suggested one possibility as to why he might recognize me, I asked him if he ever read Playboy. 🤔 You should have seen the look on his face. 😳🤣 I should also mention that this all happened in the heart of Utah County. 🥴 Whatever the reason, that was enough to shut him down. 🤣🤣🤣

Here's something I wish the huns would realize: Their MLM's DO NOT QUALIFY FOR AN SBA LOAN!!! But how can that be if they are small business owners???? I wish they would connect the dots. And you are totally right about the older MLMs appearing legit. I am female but use a male name on social media because when I use my very female name, I get some very offensive replies from trolls. But II remember the Avon lady and how I LOVED looking through the Avon catalogues. When I moved to NYC, I was walking down a street and saw an Avon "booth" where they were trying to recruit people. I "kitnapped" the bags they were giving out, but then was weirded out when they wanted me to buy a kit to sell--I thought, "Wait, when did Avon become an MLM???" Now from watching your videos, I am realizing Avon has ALWAYS been an MLM, LOL.

Also, that "How can you recommend a product you haven't tried?" argument is a really odd one. If these huns really were small business owners, they would have created/designed/commissioned/etc the products themselves lol, it would be their products, so there wouldn't be a situation where they "hadn't tried the product yet." But MLM reps are not actually small business owners, these are not their products, and this argument is a good way to get them to buy way more products than they actually need.

They gave me 2 weeks to have something of theirs & I got a clothing allowance in the beginning to start me off, plus 40% discount on most clothing after that. The best was I knew at the end of the week I was getting paid. Yes they are sales people, but even then the their MLM do not treat them right. In my opinion

I was sucked in to Mary Kay when I moved to a new state and knew no one. These MLM people are NOT your friends. As soon as you quit, you will never hear from them again unless it’s to try to get you to rejoin or buy something. It breaks my heart to see others sucked into this.

It absolutely IS my business how much money you make if you're RECRUITING me to do the SAME JOB. If it was a person hiring at a normal company they would say, "Hi, thanks for applying, this position pays $15 per hour" or whatever. In one IG story they say they're "hiring for their team" but they don't want to tell you the pay. Which is it??! Gah, it's infuriating.

You know what that last one reminds me of? Anyone remember those catalog’s they’d give us in elementary school and they’d have us try to sell all this useless garbage to people? It’s like they were teaching us how an MLM works at a young age. Like they said “if you want to ride in a limo in April during school hours, you will sell X Amount.” I look back and think “what the hell? We were 10!”

11:21 I'm dying laughing because... _any time_ I spend my personal money on something work-related my manager tells me to make a copy of the receipt (or screenshot and email a copy) so that she can reimburse me on my next paycheck. When I saw that my coworkers were using old empty mask boxes to store their little sundries in, I bought the stuff to make everyone their own snap-top boxes with their names on each one... and was reimbursed the $50 I spent. My spouse's employer gave him an allowance to go buy appropriate boots for work (union job ftw). Sure, if you own your business _you_ have to spend the money but that's an investment that you see returned but an MLM is not an investment, it's an _expense_ that you'll never see paying itself back.

I honestly believe Avon has stood the test of time because they actually have good products and I think if they moved from a direct sales model to a retail model they could be just as if not more successful. My grandma had the catalogues from a friend and that used to be one of the highlights of my childhood, and every so often my mom would actually let me order something and we still use the home decor I bought. As an adult I don't buy because I don't support MLM companies but if I were ever to make an exception, it would be for Avon.

Aside from some Herbalife in inner cities, you don’t see too many MLMs. Certainly not people rocking LulaRoe

I understood "no worries about either of those things" as "no worries about you being French, and about your English not being perfect" instead of "keeping OP anonymous and her English not being perfect because it's not her first language" and I want to thank my non-native speaker brain for that 😂 😂😂😂 hey, at least I got a good laugh :) {context: around the 27 minutes mark} I recently came across your channel -maybe a week ago tops- and have been binge watching ever since! In a video you mentioned how you know probably upwards of 10 people who are in an MLM and as a Swiss young woman who has always live in Switzerland, I had a huge WTH moment! I thought I knew nobody who's in an MLM, but it turns out I have 1 acquaintance who is in Tupperware -do you all also call any food container a "tupperware"? we don't have any from the MLM but here they are very often referred to as such. And I only met said person just before turning 19 -almost 5 years ago. They have never tried to recruit me or post about recruiting/"business opportunity" on FB. The only thing they post is "hey I'm ordering next *insert day*, does anyone want anything?" with a picture of what can be ordered; and they have never pressured people in the comments. Obviously, I don't know what happens in private messages, but nobody has ever left a message about them "forcing or being insistent". It makes me think they might be in just for the discounts? I don't think it's great, but much better than recruiting and stuff. Therefore the techniques used by American MLM huns baffle me and some have truly made me mad and/or cry; especially when the person writing has had something terrible happen to them, like a loss, diagnosis, ... as I have been in treatment for a tumor for the past 9 years, and for the past 6 years, I've been dealing with severe secondary problems due to the tumor and numerous treatments, such as a damaged sciatic nerve, depression, loss of independence, having to stop my studies, to accept the loss of my dream to become a doc and switch to something else, that I haven't been able to start yet. I've lost my dad and best friend to cancer, and I would have punched someone trying to use that as a way to rope me in; thankfully it never happened. Thank you for all the content you post and the awareness and knowledge you bring! MLMs are so predatory and they push brainwashed people to act in ways they would never even think of, were they not in an MLM. I love the colours of your cup ;)

The same thing happened to me! I invited friends and family to my free "spa night" just to find out it was a Mary Kay sales pitch. I was so embarrassed in front of my friends and sister. I had a friend selling Mary Kay who claimed I was wearing "pollution" since I was a young mom with clear skin so I wore no makeup. Mary Kay makeup supposedly guards your face from "pollution." I lived in a small, rural area not known for pollution!

Team National was an MLM that has since closed. A friend of mine from high school who was also our real estate agent when my husband & I bought our first house used to sell fake eyelashes in what I suspect was an MLM. She was also in Team National and it's pitched as discounts on products and services you already buy and use. She did fairly well in it getting a cruise, with other TN reps, for her sales. She's all about "passive income" and I think she's been in a few other MLMs. Luckily she hasn't pitched the "business" opportunities to me. But I will say she's a phenomenal realtor & got our offer accepted out of 8 other offers that were offering the same price for the home.

The door to door Internet sales one is interesting to me. I've had people try to sell me service for both of the major telecom providers in this area (Rogers and Bell are both massive national brands in Canada) and I was aware that they were just third party companies hiring mostly students to try to create leads, but I didn't know it was commission based and basically an MLM! I always tell them I'm not interested. If I want to change my provider I can just call them, and whatever deal the person at the door is offering isn't going to be irrepeatable. I also don't feel comfortable doing something major with a random person at my door who I know is just an un-informed kid.

So I'm a little confused as to why she is mad that her former college mate called her out on the income claims. If she did not want that to be anyone's business, then why did she post it on social media? She was probably hoping no one would question the income claim and instead the claim would make people curious and inquire about her "business". Instead it sounds like it backfired on her. To make matters worse, she feels the need to get back on social media and defend herself. At least that is the sum total of what I got out of that rant. Just subscribed to this channel - love the videos.
