Hannah - A thought I just had to add to the anti-MLM reasoning: The more an MLM grows, the less beneficial it is to the people who do it. It means less job security, less income, less opportunity. The more a traditional business grows, the more beneficial it is to the people who work there. It means *more* job security, *more* income and *more* opportunity. In a lot of ways, recruiting is just another thing sold as a business development strategy, when they're really stacking the deck against everyone they convince to join them. I hope that makes sense.

@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValleyi’ve been rewatching old videos and scrolling through the comments and saw this, and i have thoughts that could answer this. MLMs kind of have a life cycle. they’re founded, they grow slowly as their first recruits discover the business, they grow a little quicker as those people begin recruiting more people, and they skyrocket for a period of time. i think Hannah has said there’s evidence that years 4-7ish tend to be MLM’s best, lots of people are joining, making the top of the pyramid and the founders rich, but once market saturation is reached, and the lowest ranks can hardly recruit anyone, their profits start to hurt. the company continues to make money off of their reps, as they continue to buy their own personal stock of products that they use, or that they need to purchase to hit PV quotas or to hit or maintain ranks, but their main form of revenue (recruitment) slows way down. and when the opportunity worsens, people will begin to leave, either quitting MLMs altogether or jumping to a new one. from there the business slowly deflates, and as we’ve seen in the last year or so, many MLM companies have either shut down at that point of the life cycle, or they restructure away from the MLM business model, which leaves the reps without their job or without a major portion of their income. the opportunity dies away at that point, and everyone in the company suffers the loss. hope that helps answer your question! (about a year later lol)

I've always found the MLM view of passive/residual income fascinating - I get royalties from several books twice a year, the amounts are in the low thousands and I do absolutely nothing to make this happen (the publisher does). I could stay in bed for a year doing no work at all and these payments would still turn up. That's passive income, if you're hustling all day every day on your phone the income (if any) isn't passive.

Two things: First, you mentioned that someone will be watching this video (and getting ads) in a year. Hi, it's me. I'm watching a year after you posted. Second, I am an author, and the way you described the money is pretty darn accurate. (I'm honestly impressed. Author money is so mysterious to most people outside the industry.) Many of us (if we publish with a larger publishing house) actually make advances, so we get a chunk of money upfront (and upon completing different parts of the contract), and then once we "earn through" the advance, we begin making royalties, which is what you mentioned. Not all books earn through their advances (it's totally normal not to!), but it's really nice when they do. I have a few book that have earned through, so I'm still making *new* money on books that published in 2015 and 2016.

So many of them say I promise it will change your life.. but that could mean it makes it worse. So they’re not lying 😑

Errr since when was a company you work for paying you on time a flex? That’s what the absolute vast majority of companies do, it’s considered to be extremely bad practice to not.
@td134872 жыл бұрын
The monthly charge was more than likely the autoships. Even as a MP you are still signed up for auto shipments and they make it super hard to get out of it.

She does realise that paid time off means still making an income right ? I think she does not know this 🧐.

Great video! I wish I could send this to everyone I know who is still living in the “MLM Nightmare World!” Love how you break down everything and explain it so well. Everyone, MLM or not, needs to educate themselves on these “cults.” Wish your channel had been around in my past with the MLM world.

Part of being involved in a commercial cult is changing the lexicon. Retire=quit your salaried job and join a “business opportunity” based on dreams of “financial freedom” Promise=something which may or might not happen, but most likely will not Lawsuit=what all businesses have Job Security=trying to recruit people to your downline Helping people=the best way to make money off people Resi-dule=a word that used to be residual, meaning not working while your downline does the work Time Freedom=working 24/7, working on vacation, working while you are sick Zoom Call=valuable training Your Own Business=a business run by a corporate office Program=selling MLM “tools” and “coaching” on the side Friendship=someone who says they are your BFF in the business and then shuns you if you quit Dogs and Children=a selling tactic to appeal to people’s good nature

You nailed this one Hannah! You gave such a good summary of the scam of MLMs and the rampant victim blaming/ manipulation in Monat

My why was my family and I failed therefore I must not care about my family enough, absolutely heartbreaking to hear that/feel that as a mom of young kids. And these women boast about how much they are called to help moms come home through Monat and then shame them when they aren’t making sales/recruits.

"Why does your MLM have to be involved at all? Why can't you just be charitable to be charitable?" Because they're not charitable, end of story. No really - I'm an attorney that works for a nonprofit. The work I do, if I did it as a volunteer, would be considered charitable. I do really good work, for people who are low-income, to help overcome barriers and get access to REAL opportunities. But I would never categorize my work as charitable because I get paid to sit at my desk for 40 hours a week to do this work (and with benefits, kickass!). I have done /this exact same work/, in a different county, as a volunteer, at the same time that I had this job, and /that/ work is charitable. I did that even when I didn't have to. It ate into my personal life and my personal expenses. And I did /that/ volunteer work... because I believed it was the right thing to do. There was no need to convince me that I needed to donate my hours or expertise to provide legal aid. I didn't need to attach it to some business benefit. I just did it because it was right and I was capable (physically, emotionally, mentally). I don't leave this comment to seek praise or adoration from others - but just because it's such a pertinent experience that underscores the difference between people who are genuinely charitable and compassionate, and those that... just aren't.

When I was in my MLM I used to think I was helping people honestly. But there comes a point when you have to recognize you’re not earning money and if you keep saying others will make money, you’re being dishonest. So are you actually helping? I agree depending on how long someone has been in they’re either genuine in believing that or they’re being manipulative.

It sickens me how low these scammers can go to manipulate other people, I'm proud of my 9-5 work, It really rub me in the wrong way the use of non sense and rhetoric to mock workers like me... the point is to brainwash your naivity and make you think that you can be "smarter" than the avarage worker and earn lots of money with basically... doing nothing! They don't sell the product, they sell a lifestyle. THANK YOU for videos, your work it's precious!

A word of caution - the BBB is not 100% trustworthy. It's ok as just one tool to check company reliability, but companies can pay the BBB for certification.

The woman with the “ambassador program” HAS to be one of the reps who KNOW it’s an MLM and is just trying to cash in. There’s no way someone who just got swept up in it could come up with something like that
