I too believe that each unit has its place in the market, and that to get the biggest benefit (off course) is to use the appropriate ball (RPT, RCT) depending on which unit you are using provides the most accurate data and not necessarily the data you are most impressed with 😁 - Great video as I really enjoy your relenting effort to get us the most fair and complete evaluation of each unit - and how to make sure you adjust your setup before going nuts on a unit!! - Thanks Dave!

I'd love to see this redone but with only one unit running at a time. I believe Doppler radar devices can interfere with each other especially when trying to track the same moving object in such close proximity. What if you took 10-15 shots with each (alone) using their ideal ball and then compared the average measured numbers?

@jonathanmorton7476 Жыл бұрын
I think if you factor in up front cost and total cost of ownership over 2-3 years these devices are not neck and neck. The garmin is the much more affordable unit, you can get more accurate readings with a cheap piece of aluminum tape on the ball and you don't have to pay a subscription fee annually to keep spin numbers. Plus the RPT balls are more expensive add on requirement for the unit to work. If you use a standard ball with both the Garmin and the Rapsodo, I think the Garmin is a winner.

@@jonathanmorton7476 exactly what everyone is forgetting : total owning cost ! After 5 years it’s definitely not the same story as MLM2 Pro will be on par with higher end hardware. Plus if you wanna sell your MLM2 second hand, you’re at a big loss cause no one will buy it over 400$. New owner needs to add 200$ membership on top of it. So Rapsodo lock its customers behind a paywall and also kinda kill the second hand market. Thanks, but no thanks.

The Garmin is like the little engine that could, it has survived the first competitor early and will continue to be popular. I don't like the side by side test for Garmin because it has a sensitive radar that gets interfered with easily. The no reads are most definitely the interference from all the devices around. When they both read Garmin held its own every shot.

You probably know this, but I feel it should be said the R10 with Awesomegolf will always report spin as Actual. It’s not measuring the spin axis with the RCT a balls so it will miss that at times. Also I thought I mentioned it but because the units were side by side they’re lined up slightly differently and I also moved the MLM2PRO around so that could also be why

The Rapsodo MLM 2 Pro sounds and looks great. However, there are 2 factors that is deterring my purchase decision: (1) The Premium membership costing US$199 is included in the first year, what about the 2nd, 3rd...nth year. That adds up to a lot of $$$. (2) There is one metric I really need and want of the German Approach R10, that is the attack angle of the golf club to the ball. I think a big issue that isn't really talked about is that spin on the Rapsodo is lock behind the $199US/year premium membership. That's $199US/yr you could put towards Awesome Golf or GS Pro. The real cost of the Rapsodo over 3/5/7 years is $1100/$1500/$1900US. Now you are getting into the price of the Mevo+ and Skytrak. Yes, you get other stuff for that $199US, but if you don't want or need it, you're stuck paying for it just to get measured spin numbers. This made me not regret the purchase of the Garmin and killed the idea of the Rapsodo for a buddy of mine.

David thanks for another great video. I am still not sure of witch one to buy. They both seem to be close in there readings. I guess my question would be in future updates are they both going to get better? I would certainly believe that the Rapsodo will because the technology is much newer than the R10. I could see Garmin releasing more updates for sure. But I wonder if there only going to come out with something new? Have you heard anything through some of your contacts? Still my biggest issue with the Rapsodo is the cost of the membership a bit pricey. But that being said if there going to add things such as club face path in future updates with the use of the cameras it may be worth it. Do you need premium membership? Does Awesome Golfs software provide enough feed back to help improve anyones game were the membership is not necessary? Lets face it we are all buying these units because we are on a budget and just want to improve are game with out breaking the bank. If we are looking at a difference of a 3-5% accuracy in reading compared to a high end unit then as David has said we cant go wrong with either one. If your like me and love technology then Rapsodo just might be the way to go it can only get better. Where as the R10 has been out for couple years and even with updates its still limited to its current technology.

Just got my MLM2PRO in. Has anyone had difficulty getting Landscape mode when using with iPhone?

this is just my opinion but i think the r10 gives way to little curb on the ball flight, ive seen so many videos with it now and almost everyone that uses it hit the ball almost to straight. The rapsodo shoudl be able to give better axis on the ball. And btw nice ball speed there mate! :D
@davidmaxfieldgolf Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. To get the most out of the MLM2PRO you really need the RPT balls
@kennethj4984 Жыл бұрын
Garmins clubspeed is def. not measured. Its not even possible to get smashfactors around 1.55 unless your club is illigal 🙂 I think the Rapsodo ball flight is correct. Radar devices and gear effect is not a good combo yet. The one you hit on the toe was proberbly the low hook Rapsodo was showing!!!

Things like this would make me start questioning which one is working correctly..

I think that when all the shots are hit that in the end the averages when using their own balls (RCT & RPT) that there isn't much difference in numbers.
@dloc2907 Жыл бұрын
Too close to call or warrant an upgrade from the R10.
@davidmaxfieldgolf Жыл бұрын
For most who have the R10 that will be the case
@hughcardiff7046 Жыл бұрын
So which one is correct? You can't go by what you think it is or which way you think it's going hitting into a net. I wouldn't call this very scientific.
@davidmaxfieldgolf Жыл бұрын
It’s a comparison between the 2 units. Like I mentioned at the end, it’s very hard to know exactly which one is 100% correct but after all the shots were hit the averages were very much in the ball park of each other. Personally when I did the video against the flightscope x3 the Rapsodo was so close that I’d have to say maybe it was the correct one here also
@ScottDreyfus Жыл бұрын
That data needs work. Their algorithm absolutely blows. There is no such thing as 1.54 smash. You ball speed is not accurately matching your club speed. Flights cope mevo struggles in a similar fashion when you get to driver.
@davidmaxfieldgolf Жыл бұрын
Correct, I mentioned this towards the end of the video, the smash seems to offset on the clubspeed to get a somewhat accurate number but the clubspeed should be higher and smash lower on the R10

The Garmin has got better over time as software updates have bought us more refined and accurate algorithms. I find it impressive that the rapsodo has similar/same readings as the garmin, and hope that we see improvements over time with the MLM 2

I just don't trust any of these low priced launch monitors. With the myriad discrepancies, it seems like a waste of money to me. I'll continue to rent a bay and use a Trackman or GC Quad to get my carry distances.

How can you say that? What are you comparing them too? If your comparing them to a unit that’s a couple thousand or more they hold there own. There’s plenty of videos out there showing the comparisons and for what I’ve seen there pretty accurate. I believe David has prove this in many of his videos. Thanks again Dave

I see so many other content creators heaping praise on to the Rapsodo device that I've got to believe its radar was interfered with due to setting these up near one another.
@davidmaxfieldgolf Жыл бұрын
They’ve become a lot better with that and generally if there’s interference it pretty much always very obvious with crazy ball flights or numbers
