Sooo... the gem is a Null Rod, something that cancels out other magic? It's an old reference, but it checks out ^^ Gerrard: "But it doesn't do anything!" Hanna: "No -- it *does* nothing." In general, gems are storage units for magic, at least in occultism. They absorb emotional energy and can release, balance, or contain stuff. Safe discharges require running water, preferably a spring but tap water works too, if you believe in that sort of stuff. You could just make it a bug repellant ^^ simple, practical, fits the setting without being overpowered.

I like it just the way it is... but IF it had to have any magical properties, I'd say it should do something akin to how cheer leaders help pump up the crowd at a football game; where when other magical creatures are near Tyandaga they get a huge boost to their magic from his support. Hehehe, Tyandaga the cheer leader :P .

As someone that has one character with a lot gem focus, I've done some experimenting with the concept; especially with a design starting point of an ixis wizard. Even did a mini theory why unicorns treasure gems so much within my first 'How Human' video. I do certainly prefer characters with limited power but that may also come off as handicap-able and I also operate on the concept that everyone (be it earth pony, human, plant, or stone) can learn magic (that is, if you can call it that) with enough dedication and training. Telepathy (when referring to mental communication) is one of the very basics thus I don't focus on that too much. But when I was working on the very basics for gems, there were three main things; 1) Using the gem as a dowsing item to point the way to certain entities, objects, or places but this effect could be hindered by terrible weather or powerful magic. 2) Using the gem to contain magical power or even magical beings but the gem could break if it has too power trapped within it like popping a balloon. 3) Using the gem to enhance a creature's own natural power. The keyword being 'own natural power' thus it won't do anything nuts like lifting a mountain (unless they already could probably do so) but would enhance your magic if casting a spell (or even use the energy within the gem to do so) or help give you a slight boost when wanting to be faster mentally or physically. Likewise, the energy/magic could be transferred to others that may need the boost a bit more. Obviously one could focus to will certain power to a certain effect that one is not too used to but may need a bit more power or strain on the user. TLDR: I found the most basic but helpful way to use gems is having it point the way and act like a battery. Still a pain to lose them and using them too much could cause someone to rely too heavily on the gems rather than their own power. Obviously, more gems can help and even elemental traits but that was just the basics. Hope that was helpful.

The emerald amulet thingy could be something your parents handed down to you, like when you were a certain age in your childhood, and the power is used for communing with all sorts of animals (Like ponies) and give you the ability of flight (But only for a certain extent, like 1-2 hours or something).

My OC has a small diamond-shaped pendant necklace. Its shiny blue and clear. The use of the diamond gem pendant is that it gives her most of her magic power, otherwise she would be weak without it, so she keeps it around her neck at all times. She also has these shoes that go on her hooves that also give her her power besides the necklace, and later on she gets a crown that's not too important. All this stuff makes her what she is; an alicorn and gives her her name; Magic Diamond Muahahaha! *chokes* Back, OK, I'm not fit for being evil...nor do I wanna be like Her....lol

Well, I suspected you were going to say that the gem does nothing...but actually, for a kind of weird reason. In your past versions of your OC, the gem was just a pendant, and therefore stood out much more easily. It drew more attention to it. But, ever since your most recent version, the gem being part of your scarf and both being similar colors...made it feel less special. The gem no longer draws the eye to it, because it seems kinda drowned out by the scarf. Of course, there's no reason to think that the gem doesn't have some unique power to it. Perhaps further down the road, you will discover it does have some power of which you are either unaware previously...or you did know was there but didn't know how to use it. In either case, such a power can't actually be used (much less misused or abused) until such a time comes to know how to unlock it. (Sorry if this sounds like "The Secret of NIMH", but that kinda was the first thing that came to my mind ever since I first saw that gem.)

At first, I was thinking the conversing with other animals was cool, and it would be interesting. I definitely still think it would be, however, there's plenty of magical things in MLP, it's nice to see something that could just be a nice, simple heirloom in your character's family. It really is a nice subtle touch and I love it, I'd even like to do that with some of my own characters now. Sometimes it's nice to be nice and simple. Even earth ponies in MLP have some kind of "power" or special ability. It seems like all of the characters have SOMETHING. It's nice to see something this simple.

Falconflight Warriors Well, first off (sorry to be that person) maybe do a grammar check? There are multiple errors in here. I think she's otherwise a decent character, though her story needs some work.The reason she cast everlasting winter was just because it was her favorite season? Why is her cutie mark a bottle and a stem if she's all about cold winter things? She is loved by all and has no enemies? It kinda gives me a Mary Sue vibe. Give her some flaws; more detail in the story; more conflict. Personally I feel if you're going to share a character you should make sure you have a good backstory before showing others. Oherwise it doesn't matter how good a character's design is. They'll just be kind of boring. Edit those and I think she could be pretty *cool* (HAHA get it??? COOL? 'Cause she's...cold...um...nevermind) I do like the idea though! :)

This was a mouth ago so it’s a bit old, I have changed the character, she has a bottle surrounded by steam because she was a lab worker, she has a rather grumpy personality so people like pinky pie wouldn’t like her plus she lives on a mountain, also the queen is messed up, the reason her name is frost is because of a frosty blue colour streaks in her main and tail

This was a very interesting video. :3 First I was a bit dissapointed that it was just nothing, but then I thought "I doesn't have to need powers to be cool". But If it would have powers, I could imagine that you get healing powers from that. Maybe you can grow this with this gem. If you're entering a burned down forest, you could regrow it. It would be really cool, if this power would be something that doesn't hurt others, like healing or growing. That would be cool! THe green colour of this gem just doesn't seem to be something dangerous. It seems calm and nature.

Name: Tom Foolery Species: Fox Spirit Age: Literally no way to find out Appearance: A filly sized purple fox with one tail but he can access up to eight other forms, each slightly larger than the last and each with another tail. Personality: Tom Foolery, as his name would suggest, is a prankster. He is a very curious little fox and asks a lot of questions. He often wonders what his previous lives were like (more on that later). He is childlike despite being older than any character in the show. He is bright, chipper and tends to break out in dance. He hates being called cute though. Backstory: Tom Foolery is an immortal. However his mental state does age. Every now and then he needs to reset due to various psychological traumas that are bound to happen over the course of time. He goes into a hibernation where he loses all his memories. After he wakes up he's like a child again (he calls tgis reincarnation). He isn't from the world of the ponies but he no longer remembers where he is from or really how old he actually is. Powers: Tom is not bound to this reality like the Mane Six are, Discord's powers don't work on Tom and Tom's powers don't work on Discord (in a fight between the two Discord would win because he's just bigger and knows more creative ways of defeating Tom). Tom can create illusions, change his appearance, steal voices (temporarily) and walk through walls. He can access his other forms when his friends are in danger, however the more tails he has the more feral he gets. In these other forms he gets stronger and faster. In his final state he is just a wild animal, only the Elements of Harmony can make him normal again. Flaws: Tom has a severe weakness to unstable magic like those of a unicorn with a broken horn, enough exposure will cause him to phase out of reality permanently. He hates confrontation, he will tend to run away from his troubles rather than try to solve them. Also he has a hard time knowing when "too far" is too far. He has a Tulpa (an evolution of an imaginary friend he had a few reincarnations ago) that only shows it's ugly face whenever Tom is feeling sad or lonely and gives him cryptic reminders of his failures in past lives.

Well you're a deer, a creature of the forest. By that nature you don't need magic to communicate with animals, and as an equine you don't need magic to communicate with ponies. I've actually made a deer oc once. I made his cutie mark special, it could wiggle back and forth. But I called him a stag pony because it implies majesty, which is fitting since his breed is rare in Equestria. But that's just it, like unicorn, Pegasus, or earth pony, deer or stag is just another breed. No need for crazy theories there. However, the amulet could be magic. "Could be" as my math teacher likes to accept as an answer when it comes to probability XD but it also might not be. Lol. Great video as always! Very thought provoking.

And because he doesn't live very close to them, its just a little piece of home and very dear to him as well. But that's just my idea.😅

It could be a family heirloom. I always though of deer in the fandom being sort of forest dwellers that were somewhat spiritual. Maybe a strange forest gem could be significant to a deer family, or some sort of marker for which family they belonged to

I really liked the idea with how Tyandaga can only speak normal english with this gem. But it wouldn't make sense because we have seen many animals speak in the show. So it probably is just a very good looking fashion detail.😊

Deer are beautiful, smart and majestic. It's nice if it's just an accessory because I mean, even Rarity would approve such a design. Your OC really needed something with a mature and elegant touch. Since it's all green in color, I'd imagine it had some kind of earthy power. Like a healing spell, or perhaps an ability to make plant life flourish.

I've lurked and enjoyed your videos whenever I decide to watch them. When the question about what the gem should do came up, I felt I had to share my two cents. While it might be neat and awesome to have magical powers, I'm more of a sucker for stories and character development. Something that makes the OC feel more real. Rather than having it do something, what if it had sentimental value to your character? A fun, interesting memory that might've influenced the OC into who he is today would be mild, but a cool touch to the backstory of why he has the gem on him. I feel it also adds depth and roots him deeper into the world since there have been a few stories rotating around items of emotional value to the MLP characters. It also proves you don't need magic for something to be worth a lot.

I love the design and as for the amulet. I actually think it should be an heirloom with the ability to make his creature powers enhanced (im a kratt brothers fan okay) hear me out. Ty is based on a white tail and when threatened they can fight back and even puncture animals with them horns. So i think his amulet is an enhancement to his fight or flight. Whrn he wants to fight it will make him stronger. If he needs to run away he will be as fast as rainbow on land with a side pf gazelle zig zagging.

Unknown to Ty, it could be a key to something far away, and his family have long held the tradition of guarding it. However, as time went on, memory of it faded and blurred, and the safest thing the family could do was take the only key, the amulet, and hand(or hoof) it down through the generations...

I've always been particularly fond of using necklaces/gems to tie character designs together personally, and it really does at a nice touch ^^ lowkey though my headcanon is that the amulet as actually an armageddon device that's slowly gaining power before reaching it's full potential and unleashing doomsday on the world :P
