🦄 MLP G5 Movie Review: SPARKLES EVERYWHERE! ✨

Thank you to everyone for being so patient while I put this video together! Many delays, but it's finally here! I actually wrote the script for this video the day of the movie's release, and these were my initial thoughts. I have a lot more to talk about, and can't wait to share it with you all!

"guards say that they are arresting the queen, but when Alphabittle starts talking to her they stand up for her, saying "hey, that's our queen you're talking to". Why is it that this movie can go long stretches with good writing, but every once in a while there are these tiny moments that make no sense" Actually, that makes perfect sense. First, Queen being a criminal doesn't mean that lèse-majesté is suddenly cancelled: minimum of respect is still required. Second, people of every country say "we're lazy" and laugh, but when an outsider says it, they get angry: this time the situation is the same. What DOESN'T make sense is that guards accompanies the Queen the whole way into the Maretime Bay later in the movie. How did she convince guards to not return her Zephyr Height immediately?

They probably blew a huge chunk of their budget on.....animating the beans....no seriously having solid objects in a viscous liquid is incredibly hard to animate in 3d

13:04 The funniest thing is that after all these lyrics about forming a mindless angry mob, they actually form... an organized army with a clearly defined plan of attack, and which disbands at the first sight of the enemy. The exact opposite of an angry mob in every way. You know, maybe it would have been cool if the earth ponies actually managed to ambush and capture the unicorns and the pegasi. That would dispel the prejudices about them being harmless and stupid, and then they could come to their senses in a more heartfelt way after seeing the fear in their victims' faces. But I'm not a writer, so what do I know. Maybe I just watched too much Assassination Classroom (that anime is so good). 15:45 Maybe we should add an entry to Insane Troll Logic on TV Tropes. Come to think of it, this is almost on the same level as the witch trial from Monty Python. 27:44 Pretty much. I miss folks like Starlight Glimmer and Cozy Glow already. Hopefully we will get others like those to really test Sunny. "They never used their magic against each other" yeah, about that...

The line in Danger, Danger! where Sprout sang "Look at this corn!" and "Look at that guy!" is so nonsense, it's literally the point. Sprout is merely testing for fun how the ponies in Maretime Bay has completely bought into his mob uprising, they'll brainlessly answer anything he speaks about . . . just like Sprout requested them to become in this same song. xD

​@Jamih Custodio in the series, he isn't deputy anymore. He has to do community service and is kind of bullied by the other earthponies in the town, so I wouldn't say he went entirely unpunished

Hey, I do believe that Sprout's song is just perfect for what it tries to convey. Telling people how Angry Mobs are usually formed. I'm certain that making those lyrics smart and deep would not work here at all. Being a mob is to follow a loudest in the crowd, as far as people's herd mentality goes.

OH, Hitch also pulls the "Mayonnaise" card that literally saves the team and the mission. Okay so pulls plug, convincing Pegasus disguise, plays the mayo card. These are not Law enforcement related actions but we will give him 3 things he did right for the entire generation so far. (claps) yay?

I know this video is old and that you’re done with the series. But when you said you thought Izzy was a descendent of pinky. It got me thinking… how many families or couples were torn apart when the war/battle happened? Because we’ve learned that you can have mixed types in a family because of the cake twins!

The dance competition should have been Pipp. She's more musically inclined but she might take the first two tries to get the rhythm down. She's not a dancer, she's a singer. And the tension could be that her friends encourage her to try it and Hitch is the one who tells her to just feel the rhythm in her body and not just her ears, like he did when the spotlight was on him. This would have also provided a deeper connection for these two as I see them as a potentially cute couple.

I think the pegasi guards standing up for their queen makes sense. They have deep respect for her since she probably has done so much to keep their nation prospering, she just lied about flying. We see how she in her first appearance prioritizes the safety of her people (and the concert) when Sunny and Izzy arrive. She outright says she will protect her people the second she suspects them of getting scared of the newcomers. She also treats potential spies with good care, something the guards might respect. AND, they think the unicorns (especially the Big Bad Alphabittle) could actually harm her. Not just because they think he has magic, but because she is... older and much smaller than he is, and that he has a literally bone-spear on his head. It's like how a bunch of brits aren´t happy with having a monarchy, but then don´t want anyone, other than them, insulting their Queen since she has a place in their heart regardless of their views of having a monarchy.

To be honest sprouts my fav character he has potential for a redemption arch in the tv show he could grow more competent or maybe he is intelligent but we just did not have a chance to see him show it I see he was doing the wrong thing for the right reasons and the power controlled him and made him go insane. Maybe we can see more relatable character traits in him in the series. Maybe they can show us if he has any hobbies good character traits and show us if he feels guilty or not.

You did point out that Hitch did ONE smart thing (I have yet to recall anything else he has done sense). He pulled the plug, even though the automation had pretty much cycled through and he saved Sunny from nothing. I love how he just watched one pony fly through a window and be like "well, he's de@d." yeah GREAT Sheriff. As far as the claim that he organized the town to capture Izzy I did not see that his influence had any consequence. The anti-Unicorn defenses were automated. Might as well command the sun to rise at dawn. I saw nothing that struck me as respectable with Hitch. His bumbling after Sunny and leaving Sprout in charge at the height of public panic was the catalyst for this movie. The Pegaus Guards as goofy as they were did their job and "incarcerated" the intruders. Long Live The Pegasus Enclave! LOL

Just saw this vid. From 11 months in the future, this movies..... is about as good as it will get. 😞I've seen you other vids on TYT and MYM, so you are aware, but this movie gave this gen so much promise. 11 months later, It's honestly maddening to see how this turned into the mess that is TYT and MYM. Regarding the Mane 5 (and Sprout) Sunny has no personality and is now a background character Hitch is REALLY dumb (I like the fact that he was actually competent in ANG) Izzy is Pinkie Pie 2.0 (only WAY worse) Pipp is still very much "But first, let me take a selfie" Zipp..........didn't really chance that much. Not many changes in her personality. She was my fav in the movie, so that's a good thing. 🙂 Sprout was absent for al of TYT and only appeared in one episode of MYM. Nice to see him, but he didn't do much In addition, we have boring background ponies, annoying Pipsqueaks (CMC 2.0?) and Sparky...................... I won't say anything else, because I know you hate him with a passion. As do I. 😞 The villain is just evil and is doing the "heist of the week" style of villainy, which is boring. Misty is cute, so I hope we can learn more about her. The overall plot hasn't really moved and it feels like they really dumbed down this gen. I HATE the TYT animation, though the plots are better than Pony Life (despite being 1/2 the run time). They definitely cut corners animation-wise with MYM, but it's not bad. I also cannot agree with you enough on the tech aspects. I HATED this aspect of Pony Life (among other things). I didn't mind it as much here in the movie, as different tribes were on different levels of technical advancement (ie. Zephyr Heights vs Bridlewood). In the show, virtually EVERY pony is glued to their phone and it's annoying. I loved the fact that gen 4 did have some tech (ie. DJ's headphones), but not enough to dominate the landscape. I'm in the middle of creating a species (no pony-related) and I've already decided not to add high tech like this. i find things more interesting when high tech doesn't exist in a story, as oppose to elements like magic (which my species can wield). I know people get upset at how many of us shit on this gen, but as fans of gen 4, plus it taking place within the same universe, it's impossible NOT to make comparisons. FIM set a high bar, but this gen could be something great. I know the potential is there and foe me, THAT is what is so frustrating. This could have been something special that brings in a whole new gen of MLP fans. Instead, it feels like they made it as quickly as possible to ride that FIM hype and sell as many new toys as possible. The result is a cheap, rushed product that had a wafer-thin plot, one-note characters (excluding the movie personalities), and vain tie-ins to the last gen that aren't working, or just leave more questions than answers. I also hate the fact that this gen has been split between the movie, TYT, and MYM, which are ALL canon. It's vaguely Marvelesque, which I'm not a fan of. I know they made TYT to float us to MYM, but I would rather have wanted and gotten better episodes (and more of them) in MYM. I will continue to watch to see what happens (It isn't Pony LIfe, after all), but my expectations are pretty low at this point.

I think you nailed it. As you can tell, I was looking forward to MYM, but the movie is clearly the best this gen has to offer, and probably the best it will have to offer for the rest of G5. I think it is possible for them to come back from where they currently are, but I have my doubts that they will. I appreciate you taking the time to write this comment, and checking out my older video! (And suffering through my terrible audio quality :P)
