Hi all,
today's video is quite long but covers off the install of the MM4x4 Automate lock up kit from start to finish into the NT Mitsubishi PAjero
I recommend checking out MM4x4's detailed video on the use of the automate kit as it will be far more detailed than anything I can provide.
Here is the link to that video

OBD2 extension cable with switch

I will of course, cover some in the field testing after I've had some time to test it out.

Great video Brett you made look easy, this 52 year old, overweight and inflexible fool thought he would have a crack after watching your vid several times. Well its installed and works a treat, I did lose the little black piece that sits on top of white gear shift lever so cant use the gear knob until the new part arrives - can still change gears just cant use the gear knob. I think I would rather do prison time than try to contort my body do that resistor install and gearbox pigg back clip again. Had to raise the white flag and ask the wife for help - no one should ever have to do that.....works a treat - great bit of kit.

Thanks for the video Brett, it was invaluable helping me with my install. The issue with getting the plug in, in front of the shifter was a problem for me too until I got my wife with much small hands to just get in there and plug it straight in. I haven't had chance to give it a proper run yet but looking forward to it especially when towing the caravan.

Hi Brett, I'm from germany and proud owner of a pajero NS. I use the lock-mate, unfortunately the auto-mate isn't available for the NS. Which fuel saving can you achive in normal use without a trailer? I'm really happy with the lock up kit, now you can feel the reel power of the engine and can hold the engine at it's higest torque at 2000RPM while driving up a hill. I'm amazed every time to see what's possible to do with the auto-mate and hope and wish that there also comes a version for the NS in the future.

Hey Jim, the follow up is getting close. With all the fires, starting a new job and now the covid, I've not had the chance to take the van for a run to get some testing done. I can tell you though, just from normal driving , it's much more responsive and enjoyable to drive with this installed. It's also pulled my fuel economy back by about 1L per 100kms not towing anything. I know that's not a lot but with all the extra weight I have on board, it gave me back some of what I'd lost through the mods. Any questions Jim, let me know. Of course Marshall is very responsive if you need assistance too.

Hey Craig. In short NO. and my van hasnt really been out much since the install to do a proper review. We had fires here in Aus at the time or just after the install. then that went into covid and whilst that is still around, we've moved into floods. I know it sounds odd but that's been the past 3 years or so and we're still getting heaps of rain. plus add a dose of lazy in there and you know why. Ive just gone out and picked up 3 new obd2 readers to test, and was looking to maybe to a good job of it then so i can monitor trans temps on the move using the torque app. I'm way behind in videos at the moment and trying to get back into the swing of things. thanks for the compliment too

Thanks for the great video Brett, I’ve been considering one of these recently and I think I’m now sold on the idea after seeing this. Have you tried it off road yet? Just wondering if it engages in low first or second for down hill engine braking?
@DENMONKEY
@DENMONKEY 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Tony, good question. I' ve been talking with Marshall for info for when I do the follow up vid and had similar questions. I'll post his reply here, which should help Gear Changes The smoother change from 3rd to 4th was good to hear in your case, but generally the gear changes with the lockup kit engaged are more noticeable. Engine Braking It does improve engine braking in general driving and towing, but off-road it doesn’t make much difference. The ASIN transmission doesn't lockup in 1st gear, and this is when you'd want better braking off-road. Hence don't expect a big improvement here. (The JATCO in the Challenger and NS do lockup in 1st - so are better in this regard.) Off-road The torque converter is actually your friend when off-road. It absorbs driveline shock and the extra torque it produces can help - especially in deep sand. So I recommend people turn auto-mate OFF until they need to manage transmission temperatures. In the Vic high country, once the oil temp gets to 90degC or so, I turn it ON and climb in 2nd gear (so it locks up). It's rare to truely need 1st gear when climbing. 2nd gear lockup reduces the trans temp even while climbing, and I turn auto-mate OFF again once temps are lower.

Looking forward to testing it out, especially with the van. I can change the setting on it for when it comes on etc but have it left as standard for now. Once I get a feel for it, I'll make some adjustments to suit me. It's all adjusted via the cruise control settings I believe and I think the indicator stalk. Hi Cameron, it won't be until the new year. I need to get the van out for some traveling before I think I can give it a fair review. With the fires and then covid the van hasn't been out in 12 months. Without the van though I'm loving it. Combined with the throttle controller, it feels completely different to drive and much more responsive. The controller gives the extra kick and the lock up puts the power through to the ground, so a nice combo. I'll get it done as soon as I can.

Hey Brett, I haven't had a chance to take the van out just yet for a good run, fires and all that are making it a bit hard.. For driving back and forth to work, it dropped about 1km per 100km on the freeway. to give you an idea against other changes that could be made, I went back to 265/65/17 wheels vs the 275/65/18 I normally run and I gained about 1.3 L/100kms on the same trip. I'm just trying different things to see what differences they make. I think the real difference will be in trans temps but again, I need a good run to check those out properly

Hey Brett, Excuse my ignorance, but.... Can i ask what the OBD2 is used for? I know that it can show codes/faults, but does it do any thing else?
@DENMONKEY
@DENMONKEY 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Reece, no probs at all mate the obd is just the interface with the cars 'computer' if you will. In addition to letting you see any codes which are used to tell you what the fault is, you can also clear those codes. Handy for simpler errors , especially when working on the car and disconnecting something that will cause an error when there is no real fault in play. The other thing there handy for is monitoring the cars sensors real time. So combined with The torque app in my case, you can watch trans temps, coolant temps, boost pressures etc etc. Useful when towing. So for picking one up for about 20 bucks off eBay and getting the app, is both interesting and useful. Hope that helps

Hey Dave, I've only just a week ago gotten to take the van out for a property trip. It was only 2 hours away . With the fires we had being followed by Covid the van hasn't been out for a good run since the install. The Pajero had but just not towing. I still have plans to do a proper review but I need more time with the van on for that. What I can say is that it gives you a nice positive feel when driving and you can tell when it's on. Acceleration feels more direct and its definitely holding and adjusting gear changes that make over taking or going up inclines much easier. It just picks the right gear for the situation and makes the whole experience much nicer. It reduced my fuel usage but I'd only say about 1.5-2l/100 at most. That and I don't need worry about being in sport mode and changing gears. That's nice too 😊
