Except he was undefeated going in to the Dom fight? The only about his style that Dom couldn't deal with, until round 5 at least, is that Cody's a counter fighter with ridiculously fast hands, good footwork and slick head movement. His success came more from how well they scouted Cruz. Cruz's bag of tricks hasn't changed much over the years that's why you see Cody react before Cruz finishes combos or in some cases throw a strike because based on Dom's footwork Cody already knew what he was gonna do. As for Cody's style being so specific that's why he couldn't beat Pedro or TJ that's not entirely true. It's more so his game plan doesn't change, starting off a combo with a 3-2 every time and not moving his head when he throws strikes combined with a willingness to stay in the pocket and hope his speed and power takes his opponent out first is what's been costing him.

@@sarcasticgenius8563 you literally spent the entire first half of your post explaining what I meant when I said that garbrandt is the result of team alpha male working on a gameplan to beat a specific fighter for 10+ years lol. after studying cruz for that long they were bound to eventually try something that would stick. you even said "It's more so [garbrandt's] game plan doesn't change". that exactly what im getting at when I said that his style was brought up specifically for cruz lol in the second half of your post you also contradicted what you said in the first half. first you attribute garbrandts success in part to him having "slick head movement", but then completely abandon this stance and say that garbrandt lost to other guys because he lacks head movement. my original point stands
@1994Trill
@1994Trill 4 жыл бұрын
Great theory, however I think Garbrant's recent losses are a combination of that along with the fact that he's a fucking idiot. Cody was en route to finishing all three of those fights. If he wasnt a fucking tool, he definitely could have stopped tj. After he dropped him in the first he got cocky and started dropping his hands. Cody literally got hit with the same counter right hand three times in a row in the fight with tj.

Not sure if Shogun vs. Jones really fits the criteria. Yeah he technically finished Shogun and was out-striking him, but I'd argue a lot of the damage was done while Jones was smothering Shogun on the ground. By the time Shogun got up, we could all tell that it was only a matter of time before he was finished.

@@51dodoc You are over blowing things, he didn't split his face in two, it was just a regular TKO, yes Gonzaga had a gash on his forehead but nothing serious. Their second fight was nothing compared or near spectacular to this one where Crocop lost his soul, that is Gonzaga took his head off clean and his soul. Crocop was demolished and in a coma, such a brutal knockout. You just cannot compare a spectacular highlight real brutal KO which will remain forever in the history of UFC as one of the baddest upsets to a fight which was just regular and pretty much already forgotten about. 70 percent of the MMA fans don't even know that the fight Gonzaga vs Crocop 2 happened.

Sakuraba schooling every single member of the Gracie family, including going close to 100 minutes with Royce. Also, Saku schooling Vernon White, and him schooling Carlos Newton. The man got the best grappling matches the sport has ever seen out of everyone early in his career, proved pro wrestlers could make the transition to legit fighting a decade before Brock, and showed how catch wrestling (like BJJ, a very ground-heavy and submission based style) could dominate even other grappling styles around the same time Josh Barnett started doing the same on these shores. Saku is a fucking god, and these young fans need to go back and watch his shit and put some damn respect on his name.

@@aplus1080 ..... Mr. A Plus I’m guessing you never wrestled or was involved directly with the Sport. Should’ve asked Stallone for the assistance What Division I Wrestling Would Look like Today Had No Teams Dropped As of today 10-17-2020, NCAA Division I wrestling if COVID-19 doesn't prevent it from taking place, will have 79 teams in the 2020-2021 season. Only 79 teams & two of them Stanford & Fresno State might not be around come the 2021-2022 season. What would NCAA Division I wrestling look like today if every team that ever discontinued wrestling had never dropped their wrestling program? How many teams would NCAA Division I wrestling have? Lets Find out ARIZONA today has Arizona State, yet over the years Arizona, Northern Arizona & Grand Canyon have all dropped teams. That's 4. ARKANSAS today has Little Rock, at one time Arkansas State had a team. That's 2. ALASKA has 0 & would have 0 ALABAMA doesn't have any DI teams today in wrestling, but at one time they had Alabama & Auburn & today Troy State is also DI. That's 3. CALIFORNIA, this is where things get fun. In a short amount of time we could be down to only Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield & California Baptist. You want to know who all dropped? Fresno State, Stanford, Santa Clara, U of Pacific, UC Riverside, San Diego State, San Jose State, Cal, UCLA, USC, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Fullerton, UC Davis, Long Beach State, Cal State Sacramento, Cal State Northridge. That's 21 teams. Large enough to where if they still all had wrestling, California could have their own Regional qualifier. CONNECTICUT today has Sacred Heart. Has lost Connecticut, Central Connecticut State & Yale in DI. That's 4. COLORADO is Air Force and Northern Colorado today. Would also be Denver, Colorado & Colorado State for 5. DELAWARE is 0, but would be Delaware and Delaware State for 2. FLORIDA may surprise you. It is 0 today, but believe it or not, had no teams ever dropped their would be 8 or 9 DI teams today. Florida, Central Florida, Florida International, Florida A&M, Miami, Stetson, South Florida and North Florida. I'm not 100% positive if the 1962-1963 through 1965-1966 Florida State team you find in various tournaments was officially varsity or not. GEORGIA is 0, but would be 4. Kennesaw State, Georgia, Georgia State & Georgia Tech all had teams. IDAHO is 0 as well, but would be 3. Idaho, Idaho State & Boise State all had teams. ILLINOIS may shock you a bit. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Illinois, Northern Illinois & Northwestern still have teams today. Illinois State, Southern Illinois-Carbondale, Bradley, Western Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Chicago State & U of I Chicago all used to have teams too. That would make for a total of 11. INDIANA has Indiana and Purdue, would have also Indiana State, Notre Dame & Ball State for a total of 5. IOWA has three with Iowa State, Iowa, & Northern Iowa. Add in Drake for what would be 4. KANSAS has nothing today but would have Kansas, Kansas State & Wichita State for 3. KENTUCKY has Bellarmine & would also have Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky for 3. LOUISIANA believe it or not would have 4. I kid you not. Louisiana State, Louisiana Monroe, Louisiana Lafayette & Tulane all had teams at one time. MAINE has 0 and would have 1 with Maine. MARYLAND has Maryland and Navy. Would have Towson, Coppin State, Morgan State & Maryland Eastern Shore if none had dropped for 6. MASSACHUSETTS has HARVARD. Would also have Massachusetts, Boston, Boston College & Massachusetts-Lowell for 5 MICHIGAN has Central Michigan, Michigan & Michigan State. Would add Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan & Oakland for 6. MINNESOTA has changed a bit. Had Minnesota & still has Minnesota MISSISSIPPI also hasn't changed. Not a single collegiate program in Mississippi DI or other wise has ever had wrestling. MISSOURI has Missouri. Would also have Missouri State, St Louis & Southeast Missouri State MONTANA has zero but would have two with Montana and Montana State NEBRASKA has one with Nebraska & would have two with Nebraska-Omaha NEVADA would have two with Nevada-Reno & UNLV NEW HAMPSHIRE would also have two with New Hampshire and Dartmouth NEW JERSEY is at three with Princeton, Rider & Rutgers. Would be at 6 with Seton Hall, Farleigh Dickinson & Monmouth NEW MEXICO would be at 2 with New Mexico and New Mexico State NEW YORK is also a surprising state. Binghamton, Buffalo, Columbia, Cornell, Hofstra, Long Island & Army give the state 7 but Canisius, Colgate, Fordham, Marist, Stony Brook, Syracuse & Wagner would give the state a total of 14. NORTH CAROLINA has Appalachian State, Campbell, Davidson, Duke, Gardner Webb, North Carolina & North Carolina State. Add in East Carolina, Elon, North Carolina A&T, UNC-Greensboro & Wake Forest for a total of 12. NORTH DAKOTA has NORTH DAKOTA STATE & would have 2 with North Dakota. OHIO is one that gets me. Ohio, Ohio State, Cleveland State & Kent State make for 4 teams. Would be 11 if you add in Toledo, Akron, Bowling Green, Miami, Cincinnati, Dayton and Youngstown State. OKLAHOMA is Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, would add in Tulsa for 3. OREGON is Oregon State today. Would also be Oregon & Portland State for 3. PENNSYLVANIA believe it or not could be 16 DI teams today. As of now it is 11 with Bloomsburg, Bucknell, Clarion, Drexel, Edinboro, Franklin & Marshall, Lehigh, Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, Penn State & Pittsburgh. Would also include Lafayette, Saint Francis, Temple, Villanova & Duquesne had they never dropped. RHODE ISLAND is Brown. Would also be U of Rhode Island for 2. SOUTH CAROLINA has Presbyterian and Citadel. Would also have Furman, Clemson and South Carolina State for 5. SOUTH DAKOTA has South Dakota State & would also have South Dakota for 2. TENNESSEE has Chattanooga but would also have Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee, UT-Martin, Vanderbilt & Memphis State. (George McIntyre told me Tenn Tech had a program, but I've found absolutely nothing on it.) 6 TEXAS believe it or not would have three. Texas, Texas A&M & Texas El Paso. There's slight chance that Texas Christian may have had a varsity program at one time too. Southern Methodist did state once that if other southern schools would commit to adding wrestling, they would too. It never happened though. UTAH has Utah Valley. Would also have Utah, Utah State, Brigham Young, Weber State & Southern Utah. 6 VIRGINIA has George Mason, Virginia, VMI & Virginia Tech. Would also have William & Mary, Norfolk State, Virginia Commonwealth, James Madison, Liberty, Old Dominion, Hampton & Richmond. 12 WASHINGTON has 0 now, but would have 4. Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Washington & Washington State WEST VIRGINIA has West Virginia & would also have Marshall for 2. WISCONSIN has Wisconsin & would also have Milwaukee & Marquette for 3. WYOMING has Wyoming & that's the only DI school in the state. 1 D.C. has American & would also have George Washington, Howard & Georgetown. 4. So there you have it. 79 is what we have in 2020-2021. 77 maybe what we're left with in 2021-2022. What we would have had no team ever dropped wrestling? 237 is the number I came up with. 237 Meaning that 158 teams that are currently Division I status today had wrestling programs at one time and don't today. More teams have dropped wrestling than currently have it at the DI status. What would wrestling look like with 237 DI teams?

@@aplus1080 ... ... “NCAA Division I intercollegiate wrestling has lost more athletic teams to elimination since the early 1980’s than any other intercollegiate sport (Irick, 2016). Research exploring reasons behind intercollegiate wrestling program elimination is scant and much of what does exist is part of a broader discussion regarding Title IX regulation. This study sought to understand factors that exclusively contributed to the elimination of NCAA Division I intercollegiate wrestling programs. As a qualitative study, an interpretive framework with phenomenological methods were used to research this topic. A total of nine participants, three NCAA Division I head wrestling coaches, three NCAA Division I athletic directors, and three intercollegiate wrestling stakeholders were interviewed to gain an understanding of their experiences pertaining to the elimination of NCAA Division I intercollegiate wrestling programs. Coaches and athletic directors interviewed each represented different institutions. Findings from these interviews revealed four key themes:  gender considerations;  financial considerations;  culture; and  complexity. Collectively, these themes provided a focused representation of factors that have resulted in NCAA Division I intercollegiate wrestling program elimination, and of participant experiences related to these factors” Clemson University TigerPrints All Dissertation

@@aplus1080 ..... They won’t allow citations to other sites Mr. Plus ..... so just a little C&P fer ya: Some College’s Have Found That The Easiest Way To Comply With Title IX Is To Cut Men’s Sports Programs. OLYMPIC AND COLLEGE WRESTLING SUFFER BECAUSE OF TITLE IX. “We completely embrace Title IX, and in our opinion we are the ones who are defending Title IX.” The actual language of Title IX is such that it prohibits gender based discrimination on college campuses that receive federal funds” (Pyeatt, Title IX Discriminates Against Men’s Athletics, Suit Alleges). Moyer pointed out Marquette University’s wrestling squad, which was cancelled because of a gender quota. The university had provided only minimal help to the athletes, as far as money. According to Moyer, the Marquette wrestling team was almost completely funded from private donations from alumni. Moyer did say however, that the school provided money for all utilities in the practice area. He also commented about the athletes on the wrestling team, “They simply had too many male athletes in their athletic department. The only reason they were eliminated was because they were men, which clearly violates everything that Title IX is about.” The NWLC filed their brief, and had many comments to make on the subject. The group felt that the NWCA was accusing women and suggested that they move their bull’s-eye away from women and more towards the school’s refusal to support both men and women’s teams. They also suggested that the NWCA look to the schools to take money away from “the bloated” football and men’s basketball programs. This argument by the NWLC seems inaccurate because Moyer had previously stated that they supported women’s sports. The case was dismissed and appealed later by the NWCA; however, not much was accomplished in favor of them (Pyeatt, Title IX Discriminates Against Men’s Athletics, Suit Alleges). Title IX is a quota system. It is based on the equal numbers of men and women in sports. It is often argued that Title IX is not a quota and leaves the decision of cutting a team or pulling funds away from a team, up to the school. While Title IX does leave decisions up to the schools, it also creates an atmosphere where there is an obvious team that will go. Women’s sports are not cut. Men’s teams are often cut. The main reason for cutting the teams is because of numbers. There are too many males. Looking at numbers of male athletes that have been cut, or looking at numbers of teams that have been cut, does not give a realization of what is actually going on. Stephen Neal was a world champion wrestler and also captain of his wrestling team at California State University- Bakersfield (Hlinak, Supreme Court Considering Whether to Hear title IX Retaliation Case). This all suddenly stopped when the school cut the team. It was not an issue of money, or equipment, and obviously, if Neal was a world champion wrestler, it wasn’t an issue of ability. It was just a simple issue of the school having too many male athletes. It wasn’t even entirely the schools decision, more it was a federal law decision. Athletes all across America are being hurt by the prejudice of insane feminist. In the 2000 Olympics in Australia there was an interesting development that came to pass. For the first time since 1968, the USA freestyle wrestlers failed to win a single gold medal (Coulter, Title IX Defeats Male Athletes). This is an apparent connection between college wrestling teams being cut and the U.S. not performing as it has in the past. Is this really what America wanted, to give up the glory of winning in front of the world, for women to have a few more sports that are put to an end after college? There remain only three professional leagues for women, the WNBA (basketball), LPGA (golf), and tennis. There was a soccer league called WUSA, however, it failed to generate enough money in its third season and became extinct. It wasn’t that men put an end to the WUSA; it was that fans didn’t want to watch anymore. It is men’s sports that suffer through this, while more and more money gets drained into women’s sports that are not producing. The WNBA has lost money every year since it debuted. As of today, the league survives solely by the media support of the NBA.

People need to stop saying "The consensus greatest", in this case Dominick Cruz "the consensus greatest 135 pounder" according to this video. You might think he's the greatest, but there's certainly no consensus. When knocking out Cody for the second time, Joe Rogan, who I think is a pretty big authority in MMA, exclaimed that TJ was the greatest 135 pounder of all time. Again, some might disagree, but that's my point, there's no CONSENSUS. Another annoying example is when Joe Rogan keeps saying Max Holloway is the consensus greatest ever in his division, while Max himself has said he disagrees and thinks Aldo is the greatest. Again, no consensus among those who's opinions really matter here. "The consensus greatest" just seems like a phrase people throw out there because it has a grand ring to it without really thinking through what it actually means. It does sound fancy, but is really a case of poor vocabulary. Remember, what YOU think is correct shouldn't be confused with consensus, that's actually quite arrogant if you think about it.

joe rogan also said mcgregor is one of the greatest and perhaps the greatest of all time, or that ronda could outbox floyd mayweather, joe sometimes says dumb shit forthe ufc, cruz is injured way to much for the ufc to prop him up as one of the greatest so they have to prop up someone who isn't injured that much. TJ also popped for EPO and fighters rarely get tested for that stuff as those tests are around 50k each so TJ might have used EPO in all his fights. When cruz is not injured and fighting he is the best.

@@SamDePrez I'm not gonna argue he isn't, that's your opinion, and it's a totally fair opinion. Personally I'm undecided regarding the topic. However, he isn't the consensus greatest. Joe said TJ was the greatest, very assertively live right after TJ's second knockout of Cody. This wasn't a part of some scripted interview where he was hyping a fighter for the UFC. It looked very much like an honest reaction to a great performance (and it's not the first time Joe has been very enthusiastic about TJ's performances. He said TJ V Barao was the best performance he ever saw). I agree Joe sometimes says stuff to create hype as part of his job, and I think he gets carried away sometimes, but it's not for you to say if that was the case with TJ. I don't think you can disregard Joe as an authority in MMA who's opinion matters in these discussion just because he works for the UFC either. Many people who's opinions I respect work as analysts for the UFC, and Joe talks very honestly about MMA for being an employee. Also, since you mentioned it, TJ has only been caught doping once, and that was in another division at a later time. It's not a fair argument. My point is, there's a very real debate about who is on top and thus, one shouldn't say Cruz is the consensus greatest. Same as with for example Holloway. I'd say there are very few cases where you can say someone is the consensus greatest in their division. Those would be GSP for Welterweight, Anderson Silva for middleweight and Jones for Light Heavyweight. Probably also Mighy Mouse for featherweight, but maybe some say Cejudo should be in the discussion now. All I'm saying is claiming someone is the consensus greatest isn't something to be taken lightly if there's any sort of meaningful discussion about the topic. The label is thrown around too much.

I think you had an error though with GSP vs. Kos 1. You mentioned that GSP had wins over "respected wrestlers like Matt Sera and Frank Trigg". But coming into that fight GSP hadn't fought Sera twice and only had the loss.
