Gegard Moussasi is one of the most underrated MMA fighters of all time. When you look at the guys he’s beat , his resume, his finish rate , it’s just crazy.

He's perfectly rated actually, if not low-key overrated by hipster MMA fans like you. His resume is deceptively good, because almost everyone good he's beaten are either past their primes (Hendo, Vitor, Machida 2, Rory Mac) or before their primes (Hunt, Jacare 1). He's a made a career out of doing that. Whenever he did fight someone elite in their prime like Jacare 2 or Machida 1, he almost always lost. He also occasionally lost to guys who weren't special like Uriah Hall or King Mo. Was Moose a good fighter? Yes. Was he an elite fighter? Questionable at best. He was never going to beat Whittaker, Romero or Adesanya, even a prime Rockhold would have rocked his world.

The CCP take it as an attack on Chinese Culture, and have done everything in their power to destroy him. Very interesting story. Id recommend watching Count Dankulas video on him.

Mousasi had never gotten any legit hype with the UFC despite his record and resume. He is still fighting at 38 years old and his record is an incredible 49-9 (he's lost his last 2...before these of course he'd be 49-7). He won the Bellator Championship and/or defended it in 5 fights and in his last 10 Bellator fights he is 7-3. Prior to that he left the UFC after a 5 fight win streak and went 9-3 with the UFC. He had won 4 Performance of the Night/Fight of the Night bonuses - one in the loss to Machida. In his first UFC fight he fought through to a win with an injured knee that required surgery, getting praise from Dana White for his resilience. His losses to Machida and Souza weren't against slouches and he avenged the 3rd UFC loss against Uriah Hall. In his 9 wins he had 5 knockouts and 1 submission. How did he never get a title shot? He did everything the promotion asked of him included late opponent changes. He was exciting and winning. He had no easy opponents and certainly had some excellent wins. Its almost like as if Dana must have caught Mousasi cheating with Dana's side piece or something.
