Almost every one of those leg kicks were checked (where he lifts his leg and creates shin on shin contact.) It hurts the kicker more than the one getting kicked.

I think a lot of people just saw Dricus's face and assumed he took more damage. But honestly a swollen eye or a red cheek is not that high on the damage scale. Marks on the face can even be influenced by skin color, blood vessel density, etc. You can get a more visible mark from a leather belt than from a closed fist. I don't quite get the "look what his jab did to his face" argument. By that logic body shots don't count unless they leave a big mark on the ribs?

My reply to @ThaWeasle 's breakdown: IF YOU'RE WRONG, Weasle, you're wrong because Strickland is very hard to hit clean, and because his jabs are actually medium strikes, often, rather than light ones (as Dricus admitted); and because you should count a checked leg kick as a strike on the part of the checker. Everyone says that shit hurts and discourages further leg kicks. I'll give you the body kicks, most if not all of them. But, watching the fight, my overall impression is that, for every strike Dricus hit Sean with, the latter was already rolling with it, blocking it, and tiring Dricus out by making him throw a lot of big shots that didn't land. A strike landed on Du Plessis is not the same as one "landed" on Strickland, and so should not be counted the same. And if body kicks count for damage based on tiring the opponent out later in the fight, then so do Strickland's blocks. The commentators seemed to be exaggerating Dricus's strikes throughout the entire fight, and never once pointed out how hard Sean is to hit clean--which may be biasing your own view, Weasle. My frustration with the commentating, likewise, might be biasing my view here--so I'm not sure you're wrong, and generally trust your "robbery" fight breakdowns. FWIW, Joe Rogan and crew thought Strickland won the fight as well. Politically, a Dricus-Izzy fight is worth more $$ than another Strickland-Izzy fight....I think. They can play Izzy's racism card, there, get the casuals really worked up enough to turn out in numbers. Whereas Sean just beats Izzy once again the same exact way he beat him the first time, kinda boring, makes Izzy look pathetic rather than an anti-racism hero...So a pro-Dricus bias makes sense in terms of profits.

Rob giving props to DDP is part of why everybody respects Rob so much. I thought DDP won 2/3/4 personally, maybe i'll rewatch the fight and see if my opinion changes but it certainly wasn't a robbery. Eric Nicksick literally said after the fight that optics won DDP the fight, particularly in R3 and i agree with him. In 2/3/4 which were the most contested rounds DDP was the aggressor, putting way more into his shots and it swung those close rounds for him.

Sean’s shots were much harder, they sounded like a baseball bat hitting a car every time he landed lol. Watch it and ignore the commentary talking about how Dricus was getting “closer” to landing his overhand in round 2 because the only difference from rounds 1 and 2 was Dricus in round 1 was missing by a mile and in round 2 was missing by just inches but produced the same results which was he was hitting nothing air. Strickland won, Rob is just saying Dricus won because Dricus beat him.

Well this is not an immediate rematch DDP and Sean fought for it first 😉 plus Izzy and DDP should have happened before Sean snuck in. So it's completely different. Sean beat one top 5 guy in his life he doesn't deserve a rematch and his attitude afterwards sucks the guy is just crying and making excuses. He has two options wait and hope he can fight DDP after he beats Izzy or fight a contender to cement himself as the rematch. All in all khamzat will probably get the title shot which sucks but he was promised it.

To answer Rob's question about Dragon's Dogma, I'd definitely recommend playing it if you want to, gameplay is super fun and the final boss is a blast to fight, although honestly the story isn't that great. Strickland deserves a rematch much more than Adesanya getting a title shot after losing a one sided title fight the last time. Plessis' best round against Strickland was round 4 and it was mostly a one sided fight uptil then. 2/3 of Plessis' punches and kicks were either blocked or towards the air and he didn't even do anything with the takedowns. Strickland got robbed and if Adesanya had done everything Strickland did, then people would have called it a masterclass and only given Plessis round 4 or something...

DDP did neutralize Strickland's signature, constant pressure, which he made famous during the Izzy fight. So, that is something that should be considered when judging. Adesanya's incredible level of striking was basically neutralized by Strickland and that was ideally what gave him the decisive win. In cases where the fight is so close, the fans, (especially Sean's cult-like fans) will judge with their emotions. Judges can't have invested emotions towards one fighter or the other. Just my humble opinion...

I think Im a bit mad because as a boxibg fan I judge the fight based off how you would a boxing fight. In which case sean clearly out landed ddp, landed cleaner consistently thoughout and did more facial damage. Dricus was aggressive, got take downs and "wanted it more" but from what I understand takedowns need control time/damage done or submission attempt/danger for them to have value, and ddp didnt do anything with them and sean just got up. Therefore I judge the fight based off of effective activity, and I saw ddp consistently swinging slopily, missing and eating hard jabs, and a lot if his shits being rolled, slipped, blocked etc. also another thing about mma scoring that I find strange is the whole damage argument. Because sean checked most of ddps kicks, and ddp was walking like joe biden out the cage. Surely checking kicks should count as damage done then? Also what about if you bruise ir cut easily? Or you have really dark skin and the bruising/cut is not particularly visible. I dont like the way its scored personally. I would say I orefer boxing, but robberies feel fairly common lmao, and the best generally just duck eachother. At least mma people dont care about the 0 and being undefeated. All that suggests to me is record padding and favourabke matchmaking/matchups

It's very simple actually. Dricus did more damage in round 2, 3 and 4. The strikes were around even in those rounds but DDP landed heavier. DDP pushed the pace, had octagon control and took Strickland down. Put all these criteria together DDP wins 3 rounds

MMA Fans don't watch boxing and don't understand how the Philly shell or shoulder roll defense works. Whenever Dricus would land the overhand right 95% of the time it was on Stricklands shoulder . But bcoz they don't watch boxing the confuse the point of contact which is Stricklands shoulder with his chin. Aggression has to follow with precision in order for you to win a fight and Dricus only had aggression imo.

With the checked kicks bit, the reason checking kicks doesn’t score in mma is because it’s a defensive action, MMA is an offensive based sport so the only way you can win rounds ( on the feet ) is by landing strikes not blocking them/checking them. The unified mma rules in multiple sites make it very clear MMA is an offensive based sport.

The rule of "you have to REALLY take it off a champ to get the belt" is because for whatever reason for a long period you had guys like anderson silva, Jon jones and gsp that would get the nod over guys that most people thought won the fight, particularly jones and anderson they had about 3 or 4 of those each but gsp might have the most famous one over big rig. Sure it doesn't happen these days but for a time it was blatant.
