Dat beergut. Him 'n Ironhide. I love it. Also, 20:23 is a great pose, man. I'm also glad you remarked on the consistent red. As you've mentioned on other reviews, often 3P miss that mark. Bummer about the few loose parts, but I do like their handling of diecast and rubber tires. It certainly seems MMC is all about the toy homage for mission statement, while Takara is all about cartoon likeness. This will be one of the few times I keep two versions of the same character.

I must say, I was going to get the maketoys Hellfire..but I changed my mind, am opting to go with this one. I just really like the face sculpt better and proportions. Although I prefer the smaller scale of Hellfire. Thank you for the prior comparison video. As always great videos.

I can't say I have any problems at all with his body proportions. I did a lot of thinking and comparing between this, hellfire, and the Takara Inferno and this one was the clear winner hands down for me. I just bought it today. Seems like the one that will fit best in my MP collection and he reminds me the most of an updated version of the original I had as a kid, which I loved. To me, Hellfire's huge legs and dumpy belly look doesn't cut it, and though the Takara version is toon accurate it is just too plain compared to the rest of my MPs. On top of all that Backdraft seems to be the best bang for the buck at just under $100.

I love the cartoon head. It perfectly captures the charisma of Inferno from the cartoon, which is what they are referencing with his smirk. Not quite convinced their is a big difference between the eyes, if there is then it's part of his Han Solo smile.

Interesting take on him. I actually feel he's a step up over their Mirage, and I have a lot of the same tolerance issues you mentioned. This figure just feels premium in hand and some of those quirks were easy adjustments for me. If you're having any of the vehicle tabbing issues, I address them with a quick fix in my review. I feel like the "Inferno War" is going to come down to personal preferences and what you really want aesthetically on your shelf, as every option looks pretty solid. Great video as always man!

I'd like to see a comparison. Although right now, I'm leaning pretty strongly towards Takara. It seems to have to better face/head sculpt by a longshot, and the way the ladder folds up is brilliant. I also just really like the clean, streamlined approach in his case (although I think I might prefer the chunkier design of Backdraft for Grapple).

Great review. I love this guy. Gives me a nice combination of toy and toon which is what I look for in MP style toys. I really enjoy the added painted details. I didn't realize it had double jointed knees...excellent! I'm surprised you didn't call attention to the very dark windows. I know that's a key point for you. ;-)

Great vid, thanks Bobby. Got this guy super early through PSX and its been real up and down. Initially very impressed, but then started noticing little fit and finish issues. Worst was the feet tabs being too big for the slots in the black ladder bar, so you couldn't tab him together properly in alt mode. Filed it and its now perfect, but that's not bau for an MMC product. Back to happy tho. Think he's gonna be my Inferno, MT's is too chubby, and TT's looks good for what it is but like Ironhide its maybe too plain with this super toon look. Backdraft has more interesting detailing. I'm still concerned about TT QC after ratchet and ramjet too.

Hey guys, also filed the tabs on mine but the wings/exhaust pipes sill do not meet properly in alt mode. Perhaps trimming down the side portion from both exhaust pipes will help them sitting flat? Have you done that or know of anyone who did? Cheers.

I left my pre-order on this because of the price, and I think I'll still be happy with it. I do see the thighs and eyes thing - the thighs, imo, look odd because of the lower halves being red and blending into the lower legs. It made sense to me once I realized that. The one eye doesn't look bigger, but set deeper, but that's just me.

This guy's truck mode looks fantastic, and I agree the torso is a little "stretched", but I think I like this guy more. I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to have this guy for Inferno, and MT for Grapple. Or some combo like that. Great review, but it DID seem like you were a little rushed, or distracted. Maybe it's just me.

A comparison video would be appreciated IMO. There's things I like about this guy (the chrome/paint, the detailing, the lack of partsforming) but Maketoys seems to have put out a higher quality product (at least from what I've seen). And with the official MP throwing its hat in the ring (which IMO looks a bit dull for my liking)...I dunno.

Man, Im so excited about the Takara version. This one looks just fine, and so does the version from the other company. But I still want mine to be the official version, so I'll be waiting for it instead. Though, Takara need to get a grip on that sticker issue! MP Shockwave and Ratchet still pisses me off about the damn stickers. I hate them! I keep checking them every now and then to see if they're starting to fall off, but so far its all good. One of the reasons why I stick with the Takara figures is because I didn't have to worry about getting stickers for the faction logos. If Takara is going to keep on with the stickers, then whats the point of with "official" figures anymore? I might as well go 3rd party, but then whats the point with collecting if the figures are just "close" to being like the cartoon versions? The sticker issue I have with Takara makes me question if I want to keep on collecting the Transformers figures some times, because IF stickers is going to be a regular thing with Takara, then I'll be out of the game somewhere down the line. The MP brand is a masterpiece brand for a reason! The product should be finished when you take it out of the box! You should not have to "finish" it by adding the stickers of your choise! So, with that in mind, is Takara really worthy of the masterpiece brand, if they're going "3rd party" with their official figures? If the stickers are there for the sake of having an option, why not make different versions of the figure itself instead? Man, I need to shut up now before I need a sticker myself LOL! The photos I've seen so far of Inferno looks very promissing, and Im so curious about the engineering and how they made the ladder disappear in bot mode. It looks great, so let's hope we all will get our minds blown by it! Im so looking forward to getting a red fire engine for x-mas this year! I'll be a kid again for sure! A 36 year old one, but hey, who cares LOL!

Just got mine, I like it. It has the G1 feel of transformation. I like its weight. I kind do see your proportion issue of it but it's not bugging me. He looks like a fire fighter that's in decent shape compared to the other offer which is smaller and stubby looking. Now my only issue is if to get this version of Grapple or the other company. I'm thinking why have the same looking vehicle and bot transforms. Or just wait for the HasBlow version next decade. ............ What to do?

While I'll wholeheartedly agree that the Takara Inferno is absolutely amazing; I'll still stick with my Maketoys Inferno. May not be perfect but it fills my shelf nicely and looks damn great. Excellent work, Skullface. Very compelling review. Is there a reason why 3rd parties making toys for 15+ (or even 18+) audiences won't put firing missiles on their toys? I don't get this. Most of us were robbed of this feature first time around, having this Inferno with firing fists and nozzle missile would have probably forced my hand to pick him up (hey, worked with Constructor, soon as I saw those fists and missiles on Mixmaster I was in). So, if ToyWorld can get away with it then it surely can't be a legal thing. Having the buttons moulded on and no firing is even more of a slap in the face than the original with the non working firing mechs. I know this is just a niche feature, and some people don't care, but geezum crow is this a missed opportunity for manufacturers of these toys to make something reflective of the original toy's features. Taking play features like this away does not a masterpiece make. Well, in my eyes anyway. Keep on rockin, Skullface!

I was extremely close to hitting the preorder on this guy.. Until Takara released their prototype shots. If there's an official version I'll buy that one every time. Gotta say though, the Takara one's ladder looks a little weird by comparison. With that said, of the currently available offerings, this guy looks better, and makes a nice alternative to the Takara. Backdraft is a little too much like an upscaled G1 toy with additional articulation. Who knows what's going on with XTB, especially now that the Takara one is likely to be out before theirs, making theirs redundant.. But there's choice, which is never bad. It'll make manufacturers up their game across the board, which can only be good for us as collectors.

That's awesome. Their alt mode is by far the best of all of them, if the renders are to be believed. Incredibly close to the real thing. You'll probably need a doctorate in engineering to transform it, though (to date I still haven't transformed Apollyon..)..

To me, it looks like the right eye (left side on the video) is deeper than the other, leading to the perception of a difference in size. I agree, a strange look. A manufacturing defect on that particular figure? Anyone else reporting this issue?

I like the MT version. Comparing MT to the official release and screens from the cartoon show the MT version to have a much more cartoon accurate body in general, in that he is a bulky character and the official product is very streamlined vertical-wise.

I only hear good things about Hellfire, and am leaning towards him, but something about the pics make him seem lower quality by comparison. even when you had the two in frame there, his cab looked like a "toy" plastic, instead of the nice quality finish that Backdraft seems to have.

It's amazing how different people's vision and preferences can be. Looking at pictures of these things backdraft here and Takara are the only ones that I would even consider. I think Takara is way too plain especially for the price. When I started masterpiece, I thought what I was getting was toon accurate. turns out it's a mixture of cartoon and real world that hits it home for me. When I look at this and the Takara one compared to MP Streak. This is the one I think. This is what Hasui would've come up with.

I don't think it's G1 toy-related, nor an upgraded version of it: all the infernos have similar transformations, but this doesn't look at all like the toy. Colors are different, wings are different, facesculpt is not toy-inspired

He looks nigh on exactly like the art that was on the box for the G1 re-issue's. Forgot the name now, but its the one on his TFwiki page. Its kind of uncanny how alike the figure is to the picture. I own him, and have no issues with the figure at all. The alternate head looks far better than the one you have on btw. I personally prefer this over the MP version, and he looks far better than the Maketoys version, which looks far too chunky. Also, lots of die-cast, which really adds weight, and value, to the figure, which of course Masterpiece figures lack these days unfortunately.

And the proportions dont bug me at all "but thats just me" :) Overall I think this is an A- Recommend.
