Anyone ever sit back and think about the fact that this whole story is happening because of a random roll in season 1 that determined Edbert was haunted? Amazing.

When Vail was spending Fortune points to pass her deceit roll, it seemed like the wheels of the story could have come off right there with a third unlucky roll. I wonder if Fortune points could also be spent to change a roll into a minimal 0-level success, failing forward so to speak.
@Walross7 ай бұрын
In Mythras, Luck points can be used to reverse the results of a percentile roll, so that the ones die becomes the tens and vice-versa. I feel like this would be a good option to give more possible chances of success upon using a Fortune point.
@dranorter7 ай бұрын
That's a cool idea. I'm of the opinion that failure can still be interesting though; I would've loved to see what Trevor came up with if his whole plan derailed. At the same time, Resistance is probably my favorite mechanic from Blades in the Dark. Players can resist *any* consequence I throw at them (although it's up to the GM exactly how much qualifies as "one consequence"). And resistance always succeeds, the roll just determines the cost. This lets me throw a bunch of problems at them and see ones they're interested in.

I did think "Oh people are going to forget that" when he had to do a final travel stains roll upon arriving. Also, it was a fair amount of building up the travel stains idea, when once they reached an inn it truly didn't matter. I like the concept of travel stains though (and it's a great name for the mechanic) - so I'm hoping to see it actually engage with things.

Just a small idea on how to improve this game system: The spending of fortune points feels a bit abstract and underwhelming in my opinion. How about instead of simply rerolling, you also have to describe what lucky event happens that gives you another chance. For example, when she was trying to convince the guard at the palace, someone could have come up and mistake her for a friend, or someone else could have distracted the guard, etc.
@D9270-f8t7 ай бұрын
I would not be an issue an improv artist like Trevor but I think it will be a burden for many players/DMs so I'm not sure if the system should require it Also in combat with strict turn order and time, how will you describe a reroll?

I love Trevor and his stuff, but I think with Season 4 the scenario/premise has made it harder to "fail forward" compared to the scenarios in other seasons. That moment with the official near the end is an example. I understand that under normal sandbox circumstances that a roll is required, but the implicitly promised attendance to the ball hinges on this, and I would have been fine as a viewer if Trevor had hand-waved it and saved his fortune points for later. In fact, I think it would be more genuine. I'm ok if the sandbox comes later. That moment could also have even been an opportunity to try out the social mechanics (roll against the official's Merciful or whatever). But again, maybe that would be best saved for the ball
@D9270-f8t7 ай бұрын
I think that fate question is in his improv instinct to ask and with Unlikely odds and Chaos Factor 4 there was only 25% chance that the bureaucrat would notice something Even with all of those factors, fate dictated that event should happen and we need to respect it 😀

I'd love to support this game, but this series and game is using AI art. The tagline of "real art by real humans." doesn't exactly match with the sword fighting dudes, the ones whose fists are through the handles of the swords. It's deceitful.
@carpepoulet49437 ай бұрын
Speaking as Trev's Ai art buddy... I will be doing no work with the art for the "Broken Empires", and all of the content of the book will be created by real humans. Yes, he has used some AI art in the show, and for continuity in some game promotion, ("real" art takes time and schedules wait for no man), but the Source Book will be all human, all the time... unless you play an elf i guess. So you need have no worries that work is being taken from artists for the RPG title, and joining the pre-sale and eventually the Kickstarter will do nothing but support the independent RPG and artist community.
@HunterTheCat18127 ай бұрын
@@carpepoulet4943 My point still stands. How can I, or anyone else who cares for this matter, trust that? Why not use some of that original "human" art for promotion? Why cut corners? Something isn't adding up
@carpepoulet49437 ай бұрын
@@HunterTheCat1812 You are correct sir, It does not add up... The purpose of the Kickstarter is to raise the funds to create the book, and the art therein. As the Kickstarter is yet to begin it has not added up to anything, including enough to pay the thousands of dollars to an artist. The trust element is up to you friend, I can only say that after knowing the guy for decades, deceit is not in his nature. I'm not seeking to contradict you, or to create an argument, just to clarify the issue of art in the "Broken Empires" RPG source book.
@HunterTheCat18127 ай бұрын
@@carpepoulet4943 Well, it is deceitful to claim the art is done by humans and one of the first pieces shown is AI generated as part of the promotion, for both the KZbin series and & book, both have self-imposed schedules. The jobs that are supposedly so important are already being taken away. If that was really important, there would have been delays or show things when they're ready. It feels rushed as a result.
@G-Funk427 ай бұрын
As much as I enjoy Trevor's show, I have to echo this sentiment. I would rather see you use cheap stock art, or pencil-drawn stick figures, or digital photos of finger-painting, rather than relying on environmentally-destructive plagiarism software for anything. No matter what the end-goal is.
