Great Video; As a child my mom took me to N&D grocery shopping every Wednesday; decades later I could still describe the exact layout of the store as well as where various products were kept within. bouquets I still have various old Windsor shopping bags (including N&D & BigV) around the house as well as some older newspapers and pamphlets/advertisements. Next time I got through this stuff in the basement, I'll pop you a note on here. Loved the video but; I did frown at the 4:15 mark when you stated "That's the Queen of England's Royal Yacht Britannia etc ..." Tisk tisk, She was domestically The Queen of Canada since February 1952 - by Proclamation of Her Canadian Parliament. :)

Good news! Yorktown square sign has lit up again and it's gorgeous! I've lived in south Windsor for a long time now and I've never noticed the sign until now, I've never seen a fancier sign like it before.

My sister loved N&D and saved those stamps! 😆 Mom told me when their family moved to Windsor from Sturgeon Falls in 1940, she was mezmorized by all the lights. It's also something I loved too - looking all the lights and lit signs at night, barely being able to look out the window in the back seat of our car while Dad drove back from wherever we had been.

I grew up at 3681 Mackay ave. between Dominion and Cabana from 58 to 70. We would ride down there and spend hours. Wasn't Tops Dairy Bar close by??? Slot car track comes to mind???

I remember that they also delivered our groceries! I loved the sucker man and my friends and I sat under that sign a lot! I think you should write about the scarlet brigade band - It was the only Windsor band to win the Canadian national band competition in the 80’s.

Very nice, I had some friends that played in the Scarlet Brigade. I have seen some photos of them from their heyday as well.

Nick (Nikola) Budimir & Danny Manojlovich. I noticed Jon Hyttenrauch in the post credits. Any relationship to former cashier Mary Hyttenrauch? Didn't see a comment on the fire in the Store...late 60's or 70 maybe. Since my father worked at the Grand Marais Store, we had a supply of smoke flavored chocolate. Growing up as a kid, it was part of my life.
@MikeEvansWindsor2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about the relationship between Jon and Mary. Jon is in the credits because it was his photo of the plaza from 1959. Great story a out the fire and chocolate 🍫

Some of my earliest memories are of the N&D supermarket, and of being fitted for school shoes at the children's shoe store (the name of which escapes me now) in the same plaza. I was pigeon-toed so my shoes had to be customized with orthotics. How do I get an N&D t-shirt? :-)
