+Ron Daniel It's not that simple. There are African American studios now, and there have been. The majority of them unfortunately end up closing, due to lack of support. The movies that are produced must be watched/paid for. Without incoming revenue, businesses die...and it costs a heck of a lot of money to keep a studio up and running. We're talking hundreds of millions and into the billions. The audience also has to be kept in mind. There are approximately 33 million African Americans, and that is not a large number when compared to the entire American population of almost 324 million people. However, we are also not one entity who all think alike and like the same thing. We are individuals who make up a group, and we each have different likes and dislikes. Just read a listing of the movies Mo'Nique has been in over the years. Look at the budgets for those films, as well as the profits for those films. Those movies have mostly been low-budget films with low profits. It's because not all, only some, African Americans wanted to see those films. It's just not that simple.

I agree with both of y’all. I love Mo’ but she ain’t popping like she used to. So it’d be tough for them to give her $15-$20m.... I DEFINITELY think $500k is too low....maybe $2 - $5m. Also, on top of Chappelle and Rock being legends....they both had major buzz from their tours, SNL and their presence on multiple major shows. Schumer is not funny to me either, but she made Hollywood a lot of money during a short period of time.

Sandra Davis, your advice is sound but Monique owes the IRS three tax liens, and the interest on these liens cannot be condensed, hence if she does not pay these liens quickly the interests on each loan can accumulate to a higher amount than she owes on the principal which is around 600,000.00. These liens are attached to her personal as well as business assets and that includes all future assets as long as the tax liens and interests have not been paid. Or in other words, in terms of Hollywood, Monique is poor. I would have advised her take the gig because it would almost free her from the IRS. I would also advised her to stfu with her rouge business manners, and work her ass off and put a great show. Upon its success negotiate another deal with Netflix with the stipulation of more money. That could have been her gateway. Instead Monique thinks she can bend the knees of a billion dollar, global industry until they pay her 20 million dollars as she stated in this interview.

I think Netflix looked at what she'd done recently (at the time of the contract being made), saw she'd sold out Madison Square Garden, they wanted a strong, well known female in their list of comedy specials and chose Miss "My smelly vagina" Schumer and she just rehashed her tired routine. She will never get a pay check like that of Netflix again (unless they need her uncle's vote for something sometime). Where I take issue with Netflix is by not allowing Monique to negotiate off of Amy’s contract. Amy was allowed to negotiate off Dave and Chris and she does not compare to them at all. She never said she deserves the same amount but she suggested that she should be near it. For Monique it appears to be take this 500k or leave it. Does Monique deserve 11mil? I don’t believe so, but as I said before 500k is like spitting in the woman’s face. They could do better with that number. A true business manager would have negotiated Mo'Nique's contract with a stipulation to receive a percentage of profits on the back-end, in case the movie turned out to be a commercial success, as well as certain possible perks that their client may want. He did none of this. Then, when Precious became a commercial success, he tried afterward, to get more out of it. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way most of the time. Now, they're both mad. Mo'Nique should have never let her former management go, to replace them with her husband, who is grossly inexperienced as a talent manager. Mo'Nique is currently on a comedy tour, at various comedy clubs, but many of her shows are not selling out. Her social media platform should be put to use to constantly promote her upcoming comedy club dates. She's doing all of these interviews and not taking advantage of the free publicity to promote her comedy tour and the next clubs she is appearing at. All of these issues are part of inept management. I should be hearing more about her current comedy tour than I am hearing about her frustration at not being offered a dollar amount that she wants, or at the least, Mo'Nique and her manager need to take advantage of the free publicity she is getting to promote, promote, promote!

I think that's a more fair estimate. The execs said she was a legend... and she spun that into her and Chris should b paid the same. Ridiculous. She isn't a cross-over comedian as much as she believes she is. Nobody Checking for her because she wants ppl to go down in flames for HER benefit. Including the very ppl here interviewing her. Sad that our community is all set to clown Ms. Mo'Nique, but she is fighting a fight for black women in Hollywood. It's a damn shame how many black women are offered less than their white counterpart. Taraji P Henson is offered less than most of her white counterparts, but has an oscar, golden globe, sag, naacp, and grammy award, aside from her big box office movie and hit tv show. Monique has been in this game a long time, hit tv show, hit movies/stand up comedy shows, and an oscar, while bringing the big audience. They are just treading along the "black balled" list and low balling her because they think she will be desperate due to the black ball from hollywood. She is not on the same level as the comedians that she referenced. Amy Schumer brings subscribers, Dave Chappelle brings subscribers, Chris Rock, who's special hasn't even aired yet, brings subscribers. What is Mo'Nique bringing to Netflix? Saying that Mo'Nique is doing a comedy special is like Illiza Schlesinger is doing a comedy special there's no major bump to subscriptions for Mo'Nique. Also her husband is a terrible manager.
