Ron Daniel Cart before horse: Cooperative Economics is worthless when practiced by a people who see themselves as worthless. Our MAJOR Human dignity and sexism problem is Job 1.
@dctlovely35567 жыл бұрын
+Ron Daniel It's not that simple. There are African American studios now, and there have been. The majority of them unfortunately end up closing, due to lack of support. The movies that are produced must be watched/paid for. Without incoming revenue, businesses die...and it costs a heck of a lot of money to keep a studio up and running. We're talking hundreds of millions and into the billions. The audience also has to be kept in mind. There are approximately 33 million African Americans, and that is not a large number when compared to the entire American population of almost 324 million people. However, we are also not one entity who all think alike and like the same thing. We are individuals who make up a group, and we each have different likes and dislikes. Just read a listing of the movies Mo'Nique has been in over the years. Look at the budgets for those films, as well as the profits for those films. Those movies have mostly been low-budget films with low profits. It's because not all, only some, African Americans wanted to see those films. It's just not that simple.

Evidently Netflix was not to hot to have her do a special but they are not the only game in town. I have turned down a lot of jobs because they didn't pay what I thought I was worth and I think most people in the business world have. Sometimes I have taken jobs for less then I thought I was worth because nothing else was available at the time. It is just the nature of business. Nothing personal.

Sandra Davis, your advice is sound but Monique owes the IRS three tax liens, and the interest on these liens cannot be condensed, hence if she does not pay these liens quickly the interests on each loan can accumulate to a higher amount than she owes on the principal which is around 600,000.00. These liens are attached to her personal as well as business assets and that includes all future assets as long as the tax liens and interests have not been paid. Or in other words, in terms of Hollywood, Monique is poor. I would have advised her take the gig because it would almost free her from the IRS. I would also advised her to stfu with her rouge business manners, and work her ass off and put a great show. Upon its success negotiate another deal with Netflix with the stipulation of more money. That could have been her gateway. Instead Monique thinks she can bend the knees of a billion dollar, global industry until they pay her 20 million dollars as she stated in this interview.
@tonyp3337777 жыл бұрын
i think your bussiness savy and eloquent speech are sound and very convincing. although i disagree with your opinion on her "rouge business manners " statement. she is doing all that she can to clear her name and her brand by letting the people now that this treatment is not fair and it is solely based off netfllix's power and control. I applaud her bravado and her sheer backbone and willingness to expose the game to the public for what it is so other young black women can see what they are up against and they can make a decision themselves if they want to go down the road of no power if they don't have OWNERSHIP OF THEIR BRAND. she is a hero in my eyes and if she doesn't work in hollywood again so be it. i hope she starts her own company and gets her worth on her own with private investors.

Believe it or not that Oscar for 1 single role is nothing. She has went to do comedy shows ranting and tearing down other successful blacks and calling it material. She has NEVER had record breaking ticket sales at any of her comedy shows, and NEVER sold out any major venues. The fact is she barely has a following and can’t see she’s not worth the top dollar she wants. Check her IG and Facebook, no one is checking for her she has no major fan base. Even If Netflix gave her over a million and all of her IG fans watched, it’s only 222, 000 people. If all of her Facebook followers watched assuming they are all different from IG that adds only 269, 000 meaning less than 500,000 watching that special so you’re telling me she deserves more money? That would be a poor investment. If people rocked with her like she claim they do it would show

Let's be real, Netflix has people watching shit they would never watch. As soon as you log on, they place the shows they want you to watch right in front of you in a giant space. Such a cop out comment. She's done nothing in comedy for a long time. She calls herself the most decorated however I think she needs to speak to Eddie Murphy, Whoopy Goldberg, Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle on that front. She's called a legend off the basis of her age, not her catalogue. It's a term that's thrown out there. When was she ever hot in the public eye? She's not done anything in years. Kevin Hart got back on top by grinding on KZbin. He essentially has done more work than Monique has since her Oscar win. People don't even know who she is unless they're American. You're meant to capitalise on your win by getting more top movies and getting yourself out there and she didn't. Your Oscar means something for a year and then it's just history. 500k is low but she needs to come back to reality because people don't know her enough to care about her boycott

1. the oscar like all award have no FACTUAL meaning, they (like all opinions) change from person to person. 2. do some research cause the big stars making 20 mill a movie have ZERO oscars (tom crusie, johnny depp, etc etc). thats great you put a monetary value in it but the reality is no body else does lol hence why the films that win are usually indie films aka cost less than a mill to make so................. 3. the people she mentioned on netflix DONT have oscars and have bigger deals 4. its all about NOW, to quote ms. jackson "what have you done for me lately". in the grand scheme of things she's not popping right now plain and simple. if she was the new it girl like amy, like issae rae, like lupita, she would be offered more

+Tiffany Lashonta You have an interesting definition of "professional". In my world if someone makes you an offer and you don't like it, you smile and say, "Ok. I appreciate your interest." and you shop the offer. That's how you keep the doors of communication open and be a professional. Mo'Niques way was to hold a press conference, cry racism, sexism, drop names of executives, and get attorneys involved all because she didn't like the offer! I wasn't quite sure why Mo'Nique was black balled from the industry before, but it's crystal clear to me now.

She has a point. Dave Chapelle was blacked balled for years prior to his Comedy Central tenure. He said fuck Comedy Central and Hollywood and when he came back, Netflix gave him a reported $60,000,000 deal. Chris Tucker reportedly got a huge payday as well from Netflix. MoNique is funny and is one of the original queens of comedy. I’ve been to several of her shows and they have all been sold out. She should negotiate to get a little more to build up A CURRENT resume to be able to get a second comedy special with Netflix and THEN she is entitled to get a certain amount. She already said she has been black balled from Hollywood so you know your not getting deals from there and Netflix is looking at CURRENT status which she DOESN'T have. So build it through the ONLY network that is willing to give you SOMETHING and go from there. It may suck, and unfair but you have to start from scratch unfortunately to get the money you want and deserve. point blank. But NOW she's pissed off Netflix now she has NOWHERE to go now. Smh. Sad that our community is all set to clown Ms. Mo'Nique, but she is fighting a fight for black women in Hollywood. It's a damn shame how many black women are offered less than their white counterpart. Taraji P Henson is offered less than most of her white counterparts, but has an oscar, golden globe, sag, naacp, and grammy award, aside from her big box office movie and hit tv show. Monique has been in this game a long time, hit tv show, hit movies/stand up comedy shows, and an oscar, while bringing the big audience. They are just treading along the "black balled" list and low balling her because they think she will be desperate due to the black ball from hollywood. Where I take issue with Netflix is by not allowing Monique to negotiate off of Amy’s contract. Amy was allowed to negotiate off Dave and Chris and she does not compare to them at all. She never said she deserves the same amount but she suggested that she should be near it. For Monique it appears to be take this 500k or leave it. Does Monique deserve 11mil? I don’t believe so, but as I said before 500k is like spitting in the woman’s face. They could do better with that number. They called the woman a legend to her face but gave her a contract offer of 500k. That’s absolutely asinine. How can you negotiate and not look at her resume. Also Amy’s body of work is okay at best. Garbage if you ask me. Plus her tour was rated average with 3 of 5 stars with many complaints about how boring and disorganized her show was. What’s even more egregious if you think about it is Amy received 9 mil less than Dave and Chris and she isn’t even a MF legend. Her body of work is nowhere near theirs. So in essence Netflix overpaid Amy and underpaid Chris and Dave and offered Jelly beans to a person they deemed a legend. 🤷🏾♀️
@CELLYgg7 жыл бұрын
Who said she couldn't negotiate off Amy's contract? Mo'Nique is looking bad for this from every angle... She doesn't understand her CURRENT market value as a comedian/entertainer, she has made this a race thing, *(which makes zero sense with NETFLIX who literally just dropped a Katt Williams special, NOT Dave Chappelle who EVERYBODY loves, but Katt Williams who is the "most urban" comedian i've seen), and a sexism thing which also makes zero sense. So now, if she thinks she deserves more, thats fine, talk to netflix about it... Instead she makes a very out of place video accusing Netflix/media sexism/race when her case has 0 to do with either. Hollywood is a POPULARITY CONTEST and always will be... If you're not the cool kid at the moment it is what it is... THIS is why people don't take us seriously and say we use the race card for everything...
@poetz1537 жыл бұрын
Celly I’m not saying she should get Dave and Chris money but they could have thrown her a couple million. Now based upon her actions she probably would have still said no cause it sounds like she’s going for Dave money, but 500k???? That’s wild.
@momi58667 жыл бұрын
I don't think she was allowed to negotiate off of Amy's contract, because they weren't going to able to increase the offer to the point of it being close to $11 million or $13 million. They probably would've been fine with raising the offer to $2 or $3 million, but would that have been enough if Monique's comparing her anticipated ROI to Amy Schumer, Dave Chappelle, and Chris Rock's? I, by no means, think that she deserves the initial offer of $500K. But, do you really think that Monique would be able to pull in $20 million or more in revenue for Netflix? The company is running a business, at the end of the day. It isn't just passing out $20 million checks with zero expectation of being able to make the money back. Plus, I think Monique's reputation has more to do with Netflix feeling they could low ball her than her color or gender. Not saying that's right, but they probably view her as a bit of a risk, because of how she handles her dealings with Hollywood types in the public.
@Angel-mo5pk7 жыл бұрын
It’s all about bringing in people and drawing numbers. Yes she may be the one of the funniest woman alive, but no one is out here seeking for a new Monique special. The money offered should match the drawing power. It seems fair to me. She’s trying to bring racism but yet points out that Chris and Dave (BLACK comedians) made $20 million. And she tried to bring in sexism but points out Amy (WHITE) was offered $11 million. The three of them are money attraction...something Monique sadly is not right now.

I am amazed at how many black people on here are laughing and joking that she is not worth it or should have taken the money. When does the black community learn that if you don't stand for something progress will never happen or continue moving at a slow pace. I commend her for taking a stand. The facts are that the scale goes white men, white women, black men , black women as far as pay go, those are just the facts. If the people before us just accepted what was given, where would many of us be today. Her career speaks for itself, while she may not have had many things recently, you can't take her experience and record away, just like an actor or actress who has taken a hiatus, and decides to come back. The same for Colin Kaepernick, he could have continued playing and kept his mouth shut, but he chose to take a stand regardless of what it cost him. Thank God these people exist, as opposed to the ones on here with their ridiculous comments.

Glenn Maith 2 different things. Kaep took a stand for black people, Mo'nique is attempting to get y'all to take a stand for her. She sounds like these people that go on shark tank trying to sell a percentage of their company based on their belief, not what the numbers, or even potential numbers show. I'll tell you right now, if Eddie Murphy did a deal with Netflix it would be lucrative, not because he's a man, but because there would be demand for something like that.

Nothing to do with her husbands race, She needs a proper agent, one who truly understands the business. If she did she would be working
@AnnaMaeBullock7 жыл бұрын
Exactly. She could be well on to $8-10M per film now has she rolled with Precious campaigns. Then, after she bagged several big paydays, then step up her activism. Everyone knows that.
@andreinpeckham7 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Actors need a good agent, especially after a major breakthrough like her role in Precious. She needs to stop giving interviews talking about how "unfair" she has been treated, even if there is truth in it
@andreinpeckham7 жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone can forgot her incredible performance in Precious but if she is seen as being difficult to work with, which I think she still is to an extent she wont get better roles/paid more. but seriously get a proper agent
@andreinpeckham7 жыл бұрын
What I do know is hasn't not worked that much in the past 10 years. Since Precious she has only 5 screen credits. Her performance in Precious is incredible, anyone who sees it would agree, as did the Academy cause the won the Oscar, so why cant her agent/husband get her more work

+XAVIER1992...we haven't supported each other since the 1960s. IT's sad. We still have the crab in a barrel mentality. That's what keeps up where we are. Racism is a lot of it. Yet, us keeping our own people down does it too. I remember when I knew black people trying to start their own businesses and there was always those people wanting a hookup. How can that person make money and support their business when every black person they know is coming in wanting a hookup? That's how we do. We have to stop it. We don't do that with white businesses. I

Logical Atheist aren't you supposed to be logical going by your moniker? Then how come you can't sum up enough intelligence to advance a logical discussion instead of lazily resorting to cheap insults? My opinion is that 500K is too low for a comedian of her level of accomplishment and experience. If you disagree, it's okay- that's your opinion but you don't have to be disrespectful. Grow up, you and the rest of your trollmates. Jeez, so much unnecessary anger on these interwebs 😒
@MasterOssy7 жыл бұрын
The problem is that business look at your resume CURRENTLY, not what's in the past. The other is what the people wanted hence why she tried to compare to dave capelle. If a comedian went away for a long time and the people still want to see him and if she couldn't pull that off, that says a lot of how much money you can get on a special alone also by that said person. What the other comments is not trolling or insulting, it's more of the people isn't following the bandwagon of how the person feel so let boycott while ruining other people's businesses and/or lives in the process cause that was the whole interview was. She better be lucky that someone will pick her to do business after this cause you do not want to call ppl out in a public forum because of money....don't do it. The end of the day, no one wants to see her special. We know it, netflix knows it. They aren't going to invest in it knowing that they won't make that money back.

@ejwilliams95817 жыл бұрын
If its a slap in the face, then that's a Monique problem. She should have negotiated something better like if I do a certain number of views I get this amount. There was no need for her to go public with HER complaints against Netflix. Nobody is checking for Monique comedy specials. She couldn't sell out a venue of 350 people in New York recently. Amy Schumer sold out Madison Square Garden a 20,000 person stadium. She should have used that 500k as a springboard to get her name hot again. She has no business sense and too many yes men telling her she's relevant in COMEDY for an award she won for DRAMA.
@dctlovely35567 жыл бұрын
+realitybites771 It's not a slap in the face. Mo'Nique is not even selling out her comedy club shows at this time. Netflix wants to make a profit if they invest $500,000 in Mo'Nique. How many people will tune in, let alone subscribe to Netflix, just to see a Mo'Nique comedy show. She has never been a household name in comedy. She has never sold out even one arena, on the strength of just her name, ever. She has never become a huge draw, and she has been doing comedy for 30 years at this point. Mo'Nique just doesn't have a large fan base. She never has. $500,000 was a generous offer from Netflix.
@achosenvessel65637 жыл бұрын
Mike Woe: That was a dirty deal and she got played when you Google and see what that movie made in profits.
@dctlovely35567 жыл бұрын
+A CHOSEN VESSEL No, it just wasn't a smart deal that was made by Mo'Nique's husband/manager. Independent movies are never a sure thing, as far as commercial success. A true business manager would have negotiated Mo'Nique's contract with a stipulation to receive a percentage of profits on the back-end, in case the movie turned out to be a commercial success, as well as certain possible perks that their client may want. He did none of this. Then, when Precious became a commercial success, he tried afterward, to get more out of it. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way most of the time. Now, they're both mad. Mo'Nique should have never let her former management go, to replace them with her husband, who is grossly inexperienced as a talent manager. Mo'Nique is currently on a comedy tour, at various comedy clubs, but many of her shows are not selling out. Her social media platform should be put to use to constantly promote her upcoming comedy club dates. She's doing all of these interviews and not taking advantage of the free publicity to promote her comedy tour and the next clubs she is appearing at. All of these issues are part of inept management. I should be hearing more about her current comedy tour than I am hearing about her frustration at not being offered a dollar amount that she wants, or at the least, Mo'Nique and her manager need to take advantage of the free publicity she is getting to promote, promote, promote!

But the point is if they are not paying HER then what will other entertainers get in the future? It's setting a president that they can pay talented entertainers what they want and back it up with illogical brush off talk. But people don't care as long they are entertained.
