I used to commute on bike 365 for like a decade - saved me about 2 hours a day of traffic. Now I don't have to commute anymore anyway but that aside, 2 things pretty much stopped me riding in winter once given the choice: 1. Riding in the rain will INSTANTLY cover the entire bike, including loads of really hard to reach places, in salty sludgey oily shite which is a nightmare to try to keep on top of. 2. Riding a big torquey v twin in the cold rain is a constant exercise in caution - it's not as enjoyable to ride when you can't confidently flick the bike around a bit - even this summer I did an accidental rolling burnout at like 60mph in top gear just rolling on a bit too keenly when coming onto a motorway I specify cold rain because grip levels disintegrate when it's both wet AND cold

Going out in the pouring rain and howling wind has been alternatively both the most fun and the most terrifying times I have had on the bike!
@spicy1102 ай бұрын
haha same I have many videos going out in storms for the fun of it! I can say I have ridden in F12 winds. haha

@@spicy110 You're crazy m8! Most I have tackled is a F9 and that was scary enough on the M4 in driving rain. Still it is worth it for me for those admittedly rare moments when the sun breaks through clouds and you get the perfect light against the ominous clouds. Often keep the DSLR under the seat of the Xmax now because of all those moments I have previously missed through not having my camera with me. Keep up the great work mate and keep the shiny side up! 👍

4:51 - I'm certain that 90% of the hate scooter riders get is out of jealousy of their storage 😂 Nice and low in the bike too so it doesn't throw the handling off like a topbox does Edit: you immediately made the weight comment too haha

As you say just because it rains you don't have to stop riding, it is England after all. I subbed after your recent Gold Star videos,like your style.

When i did the first day of my DAS in July, it poured down with rain, i got absolutely soaked! I am glad it did as i now know what its like to go out when its wet, and this has settled some nerves. If i can do my first day on a 650 in the rain, everything else is a doddle, and it was! Was fun practising for MOD1 without being able to see! My gear was still damp a week later when MOD2 came along! Recognise all the areas in your videos as i'm just down the road in Waterlooville. Maybe see you around!

Rain only matters on the brakes and on corners, all directly relative to the amount the road receives plus the XJ6 motor needs a little extra H20 for cooling off. Hands and eyes need good gear the most.

I used to work for the company that makes that app, and it was pretty good, but now not so much. I currently use YR, which is from the Norwegian Met Office and I am pretty happy with it. Going into what you are actually looking at in weather apps would be a tad too long for in a comment section.
@spicy1102 ай бұрын
It was really good at one point! Never seen anything like it since.
@mvis2 ай бұрын
@spicy110 Yeah, I know. I had the paid version as well and at some point it had to be updated and I still regret the day I did so. I've used YR for a year now, both here in the Netherlands and abroad and it's pretty good. Just give it a whirl: they have a lot of shit weather in Norway as well, so should do alright here 😉

For hours ahead :Rain radar - raw pictures - no predictions - just look at the radar, then look at the sky and you can see which cloud is the rain falling off of, and you can see how fast its moving. Is there such a thing in the UK as a national hydro-meteorological office? If yes, then get the meteograms for rough predictions for days ahead from those graphs they got.

The end of season for me refers to end of summer... def not end of riding, gotta love being stuck behind bin trucks 😀 I kept thinking about sorting a top box for my V-Strom 800.... but I hate how they look on the bike, so Rok-Straps it is! Mainly just use the BBC weather website... but normally I just look out the window coz I am rubbish at planning my life more than 5 min ahead 😀

Yer that's the issue I like to fully plan 1 to 2 days ahead.

Just think for a second behind those eternal grey clouds is a blue sky with the sun. Its the curse of being in the UK. I'm still riding anyway I love the smell of rain.

The grass wasn't singed around the burnt our car. It was moved there after the event. Very odd.

Yes I noticed that in the edit. Story goes it was dumped in a field and the farmer got tired of waiting for them to pick it up so he moved it off his land there.

I'm lucky.i used to have to ride in the rain. When I was a teenager to get to work . Wet crutches wet feet.no more. But this winter is going to be a long one. Hopefully the summer coming will be a lot better than this year
@DaveMurphyEngineer2 ай бұрын
Ahem…..[climbs soapbox] Yes. Winter riding gives you skills and experiences that make you a ‘better rider’. But being cold and wet - and riding in cold and/or wet conditions - is bloody shit and miserable. Yes, you can buy all the gear for it, but it doesn’t suddenly make it ‘fun’…..just ‘less shit’. 😂 I always look forward to the medal presentation ceremonies in the Spring where all the winter riders get their awards for caking their bikes in mud, grime and road salt - speeding up the corrosion of all the structural bits you can’t see/get to and making them more difficult to work on in future - and surviving being invisible to every other road user and where every drain cover, cars eye and white line is a crash waiting to happen. Massive respects to those who have no choice in the matter. I feel for you all and salute your bravery accordingly.

I suffer from a condition which causes cold intolerance, I also suffer from osteoarthritis in my knees, so after 38 years I'm hanging up my riding gear and officially now a fair weather rider. I managed it for 3 years in the cold, wet and ice but no more Call me a wimp at your leisure lol

@philhunt92972 ай бұрын
BBC and accuracy isn't that what's called an oxymoron? I use my senses - I look outside, I look towards the sky and also use other senses like touch, smell etc and dress accordingly and because I live in the UK during cold seasons I take my waterproofing [if not already wearing them] and warm seasons take the risk because you only get wet once.

Does occur to me you ought to get a nice little Scoot for the shopping, mind you along dollop would look a right Green banana riding it. Meself i've got an Honda ADV, doees a grand job, luggage ,weather protection, a fair turn of speed , it looks the mutts nuts as well. I am a short arse tho at 6ft 2", not quite as lofty as you, get one and stop whining about the weather, your British , presumably?
