Hopefully people understand that oil change interval is not the same for everybody. Maybe 20k miles if doing exclusively long highway trips on a new vehicle with engine in good condition and few combustion residues. But on an older car that doesn't burn the fuel mix properly and contaminates the oil, or that does mostly short trips, forget about those long intervals. Cold weather also shortens the interval. Same for engines with oil dilution problem, extending the interval equals engine damage - change oil at least every 4-5000 miles AND 6 months even if you do lower mileage.

New cars with fuel dilution problems is not a candidate for long drain intervals
@Peppermint1 Жыл бұрын
@@repairvehicle My understanding is the fuel dilution problem has been 'fixed' with the newer 2020+ models. Only a theory about what caused the fuel dilution on cars made from 2010-2019 with brands such as Hyundai, Kia, Honda and perhaps others. Most car makers introduced the direct injection in 2010 which caused carbon build up on the intake valves. To reduce this problem, they reprogrammed the ECU to run the engine very rich at cold starts - this allowed some of the gasoline to stay unburnt and to coat the combustion chamber including the intake valves. This way the valves got coated with gasoline, which cleaned up the carbon deposits. The downside of this approach was gasoline also leaking past compression rings and into the engine oil, causing dilution. From around 2023 car makers took the correct approach and added an extra port injector meant to keep the intake valves clean, so the extra gasoline at cold starts was discarded, eliminating the oil dilution problem.

Thanks for validating my sanity here. I've owned a 3.5L EcoBoost (Taurus SHO) for just over three years now. I looked under the oil cap before evening buying the car for evidence of a bad head gasket (standard practice for me now) and noticed the smell of fuel being a little too strong, thought this was just an issue with all GDI cars. My car still runs like a champ today with religious like changes using Amsoli but, that fuel smell comes on the cap gets real noticable again after about 1.5k miles.

I have an isuzu trooper 2.6l 4 cylinder engine. Amsoil , ravenol, redline and Royal purple recommend viscocity ranges bewteen 5w30 for all weather application and 10w40, 20w50. The transfer case and transaxle takes 5w30 or 5w40 according to them. What is your educated opinion about this sir? The suv has a 215k miles, just purchased it, 1 cylinder psi dry compression test throw 127 psi, the engine doesn't throw smoke.. should I sacrifice oil pressure over lubrication?, one engineer told me that low oil psi is not bad it is better for lubricating parts in the engine... I put a 10w30 today and psi don't drop below 30. I think that might be a lot of resistance, what do you think sir.
@repairvehicle3 жыл бұрын
Running thicker will build up high pressure at the pump but will cause severe wear on engine due to oil being thick and cannot reach fast enough to lubricate components. Using thicker oil doesn't solve oil pressure problems, it's a bandage. Also, 127 psi is way too low. Your engine is severely wornout
