Nice job. My wife has been doing this in our class c for a couple years. She also uses a solar drier to dehydrate the herbs, crushes them in a Bullet blender, puts them in small containers ,and uses them when cooking and for seasoning meals. No buying GMO herbs and spices from the store !

Riogoo is the name of the one's we have. They have them on Amazon now for less than $20 My wife has used them to dry just about anything you could imagine. She has found that placing a paper towel under some fruits and vegetables, keeps them from sticking to the netting .

Robin, I figured you were doing this garden awhile back, I caught a glimpse of the grow lighting on one of your video. I just knew it was going to be amazing when you revealed it, and it is!!! I got a cheapy 4 shelf greenhouse at the hardware store this year and started seedling for the first time ever to plant out in my yard and share with friends. I love to watch things grow and if I decide that this lifestyle is the way for me to go when I down size my life I will definitely need something like your garden! Well done!!! 🌞🌿🌻

I was wondering this too. I have always heard how moisture can be a real issue and it would seem like the moist soil would cause more moisture issues than one already struggles with when living in an rv full time.

Good point. If you could vent the "greenhouse" area, you could use a clear plastic curtain across the bunk opening to minimize moisture circulating all over the RV.

Hi Robin, you have been a great help with your videos...I'm six weeks a nomad. Comment on the garden... if you find you are not getting fruit from your berries or tomatoes, try pollinating the flowers with a q-tip. Since you probably are not inviting the bees in there. OMG, Robin.... this has to top everything! Not only it is a clever idea, but so practical in the upcoming crash they say is ahead. With all the farms and cattle lost in the mid America floods these past weeks, we are supposed to have sky high prices on foods within a couple of months, and perhaps even a shortage. So, like you, I have started a small herbal garden, too, as most of what I eat is along that line, anyway. I just can't believe how quickly your garden has grown, so all I can says is, "Listen up folks, as this woman had done something right!" I would have been terrified to try that in an upper bunk because of the water drainage, but I can see that you have figured that all out so well. Thanks again for all the great ideas..... and BTW, I read that if you don't clip your plants off all at once, say for ex. in lettuce, or some of your other herbs, but just clip here and there, it doesn't "injure" the plant that way, and it will keep growing more quickly than if you chop it all off at once. So, just pick only what you need at a time, and by the time you go back for more, what you've already clipped will be mostly regrown as you go to finish up the original batch. That way you always have a never ending supply. Thanks for another great video!. As soon as I get notices of any you've made, I head right over to KZbin to see what it's about as I know anything Robin puts online is worth watching! You're super!

Robin-- The tomatoes will need to be pollinated to set fruit. It may turn out that the vibration of driving is sufficient, but you can ensure pollination by tapping on the stem near the back of the bloom group for 5-10 seconds at a time. Some people are using old electric toothbrushes for this, but it has to be the old-school type that vibrated, as the new sonic types don't create enough vibration. I did this in my small cheap DIY greenhouse this winter with great results. The way tomatoes pollinate is that pollen falls down, within the flower, onto the stamen. That's why vibration works.

This is awesome. I had a hunch this might be what you were up to. That is one of the things I am already missing and we are not even on the road yet. LOL I have worked on a small budget but for years have added to my border around my house collecting plants, moving plants, dividing them, etc. etc. And of course I too have a vege garden every summer. Even started canning the last couple of years and was amazed at how much food I could put up from a small garden (instead of just letting stuff go to waste). I was so sick and tired of buying veges at the store that had no flavor. So I started growing my own. Now we are spoiled. I, too, have been racking my brain as to how I can take a few plants with me. Granted, there are farmer's markets, which are great, but there is nothing like doing it yourself. I totally agree with you that it is relaxing and peaceful. Just pulling weeds is therapeutic. Another great job on being creative and trying something "weird" but so rewarding. Love that you share all of this with "us" as well.

I have watched your videos for "a while"...and enjoyed learning so much. But I have to say...this video is worth all the others hands down. Many of us pondering RV living believe we have to keep "a plot of dirt" because we simply cannot imagine not growing plants. And here you are...addressing and answering the issues. You have a fantastic setup, and you will be able to grow tomatoes year 'round because you essentially have a traveling greenhouse!!! Now...have you ever done sprouts? Your micro-greens made me think of it. But certainly, you could sprout alfalfa and plants the sprouts if you wish and then continuously harvest the green. We love alfalfa and mung bean sprouts. Thank you for this video. It is a gift to many already on-the-road!

Clever girl! How cool is that?? I have an Aerogarden and love it. Basil is wonderful to grow and you can freeze it right off the plant in a baggie for soups, sauces and and stuff. ROBIN , you amaze me and you continue to teach me, as I am not YET on the road/off grid but I have notes galore on RV living and my top useful notes are from you.. I must finally say thank you ROBIN !!! I don't comment much on KZbin because I have EHS = Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity so I mostly watch video's & even though just being near my laptop affects me physically & touching it symptoms increase BUT I am trying to learn how to live off grid TO SAVE MY LIFE & your channel is my favorite. I LOVE that you talk fast LOL, you get to the point, You are FUN. uplifting, positive, honest, witty, brilliant and I should have told you months ago BUT, EHS affects my brain cognitively/comprehension & when I do comment it takes me way long to express what I want to say, without writing a book, lol, but really writing complete sentences that make sense is difficult, so I am always backspacing changing my words as my brain gets more & more scrambled by touching PC and because of the time it takes me , well this is why I don't comment much, (( also I only figured out how to subscribe to even leave a comment 2 months ago )) SERIOUSLY, & I have been researching the last 7 years since I became un well, THAT's how I word it, words are powerful ya know! YOU inspire me that I CAN do this & when ever I start feeling or hear that voice in my head saying " Deb, who are you kidding, you can't pull this off " bla bla etc.ALSO, see how long this is ??? And I am now feeling too sick to re read or make anymore changes I need to get off PC, go outside & put barefeet on the ground to discharge + ions so I can connect to the earth/ground which is negatively charged if that makes any sense to you or anyone who reads this whole thing. LOL BUT AGAIN ROBIN you inspire me & give me hope. Sometimes I turn your video's on (play all list ) just to hear your voice in the background while doing other things so that YOUR voice is LOUDER than the voice in my head saying, " Deb, who are you kidding " bla bla. I don't re read also because I would embarrass myself. but after 7 yrs I care less about what people think & more about saving my life. And just to share the TRUTH of that statement, almost one yr. ago I had a detail plan : ( BUT I asked my son for help & I need him to take me to the hospital because hopelessness was so severe, I can't endure ONE MORE DAY,. BTW some of the experts/professionals say people who have EHS & MCS ==multiple chemical sensitivity have a higher rate of suicide because lack of support, like the invisible illness, people can't see it & the symptoms are ? too many so I myself say this has the craziest symptoms & I can't even blame people for thinking I'm nuts SO after 25 days in a Hospital physic ward I CAN NOW NO LONGER afford thinking what others think. MAN oh man I did not attend to say all that. And only a few knew or know that info I just shared. I think this took 2 hrs so I do hope ROBIN, you hear my heart when I say you give me hope . There are 2 others full timers who struggle/TBI's that encourage me & I have told them, but Robin, truly I thank You! PS. I have now overdosed on emf"s, I feel electrified & going to hit the ground right now. Love & Blessings, Debbie -sorry I should have used paragraphs, didn't intend a book here but took 2 hours & I afraid I will delete altogther

Really enjoyed this segment, I am an avid gardener at home but have been thinking about hitting the road at least half-time to begin with. So this is a great video for me and will save it. I would get a 5 gallon paint bucket and drill holes in the bottom, and plant tomatoes in there. It could be set outside when you are stationery. I have one tomato plant in a bucket and it had 21 tomatoes on it at one time. Since tomatoes are self pollinators which require a little wind to pollinate, you can help them by tweaking (gently tapping) the stem the flowers are on to increase the plant's production. Happy Gardening.

Go you! If you have 4 feet in height, you may want to try a determinate tomato instead of indeterminate (the ones that vine). Determinate tomatoes set all their blooms and grow all their fruit (same size tomatoes) and then die off. No staking required, they are more like a bush...
@tegmapat11
@tegmapat11 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've listened to others about the difference in the determinate and indeterminate tomatoes and from what I understand, you are so right. I gather that if it's a determinate tomato,it won't need to grow up on stakes as high as the other, so in Robin's case, that would be the way to go. I'm anxious to see how she does with hers, tho'..... I would have never had the courage to even try tomatoes in such an environment, but that's Robin for you! Where there's a will, there's a way! LOL

Indeterminate cherry tomatoes will produce a small amount over time. The plant can be butchered (lol, pruned) a ridiculous amount. The determinate tomatoes are where most of them ripen all at the same time. They are fantastic for canning or making sauce for freezing or giving away the extras before they go bad. :-)
@victoriabaker4400

Indeterminate tomatoes are better for enjoying over a long period as they ripen a few at a time. There are now dwarf indeterminate varieties that would have to be tracked down to find, but would be worth exploring.

This video made me smile sooo hard-- loved it, Robin! For what it's worth (you probably already know this), but tomato plants need to be pollinated. Most of the time, the wind will do the job. Sometimes, bees do the trick. You might want to google this to make sure, but tomato plants are super easy to pollinate by hand, simply by shaking them a little everyday should take care of it. Heck, just driving down a bumpy road would do it for you. Sign me jealous of your future tomatoes-- there is *nothing* better than a really good tomatah! Good job, Robin!

I have a garden and I do successive planting for things like leaf lettuce which I harvest when they are about 5 inches high. I cut the lettuce just above the soil line, so it regrows. Anyhow, I sow a row of lettuce . When the lettuce is about 3 inches high, I sow another row of lettuce. By the time, Row #1 is ready for eats, Row #2 is half grown. You can probably do the same thing with your microgreens, so you have a continuous supply.

I think if I traveled I would definitely try this because I love growing flowers especially Roses! But I think starting your own garden since Boondocking if you want to stay out there longer and have fresh vegetables this would be a very smart thing to do! And you save money on organic vegetables 🌶 . I love the wood you added to your project Excellent idea👍

You totally rock, Robin! I, too, love to grow things, especially herbs, tomatoes, peppers, etc. I plan to travel some this year, and I’ve been wondering what I can do to keep some fresh herbs going. You answered it all!! Thank you. Will be my first WRTR and RTR this year. Whoo whoo

If you scorch the wood it will make it water resistant and look amazing and it won't give off gasses like some paint does. It is a growing trend in natural treatments. Search KZbin for it.

Hi Robin - I ordered the grow light you have (I used your link) and it arrived today. I’m impressed. The lights are bigger than I thought. I’m going to set up my little greenhouse and get some seeds started for my garden.

Wow that is awesome. Yes it was worth waiting for I'm glad you didn't tell us. I rent a room from my daughter, it is dark it doesn't get sun until afternoon and when it is it's very bright and intense and we'll burn pretty much any plant you put in the window. I lost a beautiful plant last year because of it and during the winter the cold on the glass keeps the temperature solo that I have to keep them covered with a heavy blanket. It's not a bad place it's just not made very well as far as insulation in the windows. I have been searching for a grow light that would cover more than a small area. You see all the square ones and all the plants on either side are stretching to the light which makes them leggy, and they don't produce well if they produce at all. I have never seen one like this before and I don't have any more plugs available except for a spot that I save for USB plugs one of them is filled, which leaves me one plug opened for a grow light. You solved my problem of trying to grow anything in this dark room. It only has one standard window. I'm so excited I had been trying to figure out a way to cover an area about 3 to 5 feet area in about 3 ft deep. I'm so excited, did I say that! I just stopped the video and put in the order for the light using your link thank you so much figure videos they don't just help people that are on the road they also help those that are pretty much homebound and cannot get out to Garden. yesterday I went out for about 2 hours to plant seeds I also did a little bit of raking in my garden where I had covered it with leaves for the winter. a great insulator and it kept the soil covered in the spring when the sun can take all the nutrients out of it if it's not covered. I should get my grow light by Friday. that is a good thing because all next week the temperatures are barely above freezing during the day and well below freezing at night that will give me plenty of room in my tray which is actually got wheels on the back of it and a lid. The lid I can use for seeds just to start them. And then separate them Once they get their first set of true leaves. Once the plants are grown big enough my daughter and my grandkids will be putting them in the dirt which is been very well packed with organic nutrients. No sprays or Bug Killers nothing toxic is going in my garden. anyway after the work I done yesterday which was a lot of leaning over in my chair helping my grandchildren and their friends to plant the seeds Which helped a lot but my back is killing me so bad I can't stand up. I've been down since September of last year. I fell about nine feet from Aloft and destroyed two discs and fractured both vertebrae around them. I'm down, from a botched emergencies surgery from that fall, on my lower back, that ended up having emergency surgery because of it. now I have to have another surgery to fix that and I'm scared to death. with another surgery to follow that on the exact same just in vertebrae and 1 added to the lower end of it. I have degenerative bone and disc disease and a lot of times I'm in denial, Thinking I can still do the same things I did when I was younger. I'm only 54 and I say only because I feel like I'm not even close to that age once I had kids I blinked and 20 years had passed. here I was single and alone Living in a room that is dark and gloomy. 54 years of my life crammed into a 10 x 10 bedroom and I thought you felt cramped LOL thing is everything I own is still pretty much in boxes except for my painting supplies and my soap making supplies. if you could see my room you would think I was a hoarder but when everything is in boxes and it's not junk it's your life. Where we live I can't afford to live on my own on disability unless I want to live in the ghetto and I won't do that anymore. It would be a good way to ruin somebody sobriety that's for sure. but now at least I'll have my little garden inside. in the tip about the tomato plant where you bent it down is awesome I had no idea that you could do that. I guess I'll be growing tomatoes in my bedroom this year and my jalapenos cilantro some green onion, some small white onions. pretty much anything you can make a salsa with. I can't wait for Friday to get here I need to go out to the shed and get my 3 foot by 5 foot rolling tray set up in my bedroom and get my seedlings in here or at least the stuff to plant the seedlings. I already have the trays filled with soil and ready to plant. Thanks again Deb
