i see what you doing but at the same time i'd take rooftop at the same temps over most attics that easily hit 170+ down here also down south i'd take a crawl underneath a mobile home over long attic crawl easily due to the ground being cooler. Albeit I wouldn't touch a system like this as it's a stupid install, as he agrees, but i digress.

Ohhhh it's one of those where the AC mini split system is in the belly pan buried inside the insulation. That's going to be an expensive fix for that customer because all of no more than what was cut away the entire belly pan slip and insulation will have to be replaced because now the vapor barrier has been broken.

Next time you have to drop the drain pan out of that style of air handler, take a bucket with you and pull the rubber bung out of the gravity drain outlet to drain it before pulling the bottom panel off, even if it isn't over flowing from cutting the power off to it. Ideally, don't turn the power off to the system to let it thaw, just switch it to fan mode, but people are dumb and can't be trusted to not switch it back to cooling before you return.😐 Most of that style of air handler I work on are in commercial VRF systems, so I have the luxury of being able to lock air handlers out of the cooling mode if I need to thaw a coil and still have the pump work.

On most of those units, if you take the cover off there are liquid and suction ports inside. Some of them are a pain to get to. I believe it’s Lennox that starting making a little cover to access them easily. On the city multi and bigger units they have a “floating” superheat. I’m not sure about the small units.

Curtis, I have a question with a 4° superheat what do you think that the unit would be overcharged now I understand about your vapor saturation in years of a tech. I would think that you’d want about a 15° superheat maybe I’m wrong. I know many splits are critically charged, do you think you should pull out the refrigerant and see how much refrigerant was in the system? Or put in a fresh charge in . Do you think unit could had non condensables ? Love your work and your channel. Good job
@jayd5982
@jayd5982 6 ай бұрын
You can’t go off pressure with mini splits unfortunately. I’m assuming it’s a inverter system with EXV,s. Did you make sure the compressor was running at full speed? Did you check the evap fans? You should never just add refrigerant to a mini split, as they are a critically charged system. With the amount of water left over in the pan, it was probably a condensate pump issue or plugged line leaving the pumps. Mini splits are a pain to service and especially where those evaps where located. I would have walked away as well 😅
